It works alright, but it comes in such small quantities that you don't really notice it. I only noticed because I was grinding an item that gave me xp divisible by 10 and my skill points kept creeping up by 1s and 2s as well. But yeah, it works .

Somone suggested to me that crafting XP gained depends not only on the complexity of the item but also on whether or not that item is used? Is this true?

you gain XP when other people use your items, but you don't know about it... The game doesn't tell you. you just gain it.

This explains why, when I was doing the math for Novice Arch, to see how many crarfting tools I'd be looking at making to get there, and how much metal and mineral I should try and sample tonight, the numbers kept changing by a point. *pffts!*

when the weapons get more powerful and more advanced you get more XP..........right now its almost not even worth spending any time on crafting a weapon and trying to give it away..........of late I've been crafting weapons and than destroying them just to get XP and to get them out of my inventory..............oh well..........once we get up there in the food chain our stuff will pay off...........I hope!

Heck, for that matter, you never know when you get ANY Crafting XP . . . I'd like to see that changed . . .

Does anybody know if you get crafting XP for using weapons that you have made for yourself? In other words, does using a gun YOU made bump your XP?

tuckomel, good question, but I don't think so, I use my woen weapon and I don't see any changes.........seeing as the XP is minute anyways, I don't think we'd even notice if we were getting XP for using our own weapons.......

General Crafting

GCXP = 50%

Usage XP (consumables)

UXP=50%

So you get 50% initally for crafting the item (say 50 GCXP). If someone else uses your item (CDEF Pistol for instance) you get a percentage back every time they use it up to 50% (50 Usage XP, which goes toward your GCXP). After this point there is no passup on XP. (note: xp numbers used in this example are fiction and used for education purposes only).

Usage XP only works if someone else uses your item. This does not work if you use the item.

The percentages differ depending on the item crafted. (ie structures give a 150% one time bonus)

Actually I've noticed that you do get UXP when you use your own weapon. True it's very little and almost not worth trying it out but it's still xp.

I am going to throw a wild guess, but mabye the more complex and item is the more exp you gain for succesfully crafting it?

Seems to be tied to the actual number of resources used - I'm getting a consistent 4 xp per resource, no matter what the difficulty. Therefore, an easier item with more resources makes more sense than a complicated item with fewer resources. I'd say go for making harvesters and generators, since at 240-260 resources they give around 1000 xp each, but unfortunately it's not general crafting xp but structural xp. Some of the bone armor components get up there, but then again you have to have a pile of hides and bone...
