Hey all

Does anyone have information about urban planners or player cities in general. Not obvious stuff, but facts like an approximate date for when they will be implemented, or what kind of skills urban planners will have? Im sure if i search this site i can find new info that i dont know, but im a lazy **edit** so i hope my fellow architects can throw some info my way

Thanks

All we have are the few little tidbits they tossed at us on the main site. I wouldn't expect it to go in though for at least 2 months maybe longer. Of course by that time there will be alot less Architects...

With talking with Dev's in live chat, this is what I was told..... However knowing SOe it will change 50 more times, and end up nothing like this, but this is the overall concept.

UP : Skill Trees

1 - Player Amminites - things such as shuttle ports, med centers, cantinas, (different styles, and planet spec. types of each will be made)

2 - Infastructure -Here is where we build Arc's, cobbled streets, walls, city likes, and park, things like that

3 - SuperSturctures -This is like furniture, non usadble buildings, skyscarppers what not to had looks and feeling to a city

4 - Some debate is still over the fourth skill tree, needless to say it much like consturction tree. (lol meaning useless) persoanally I think it should be Exscvation, but hell what to I know.

Novice UP = 1 - New Deed City Hall, and lots of new compents

Master UP = Top End Player Building, Sky Scrappers, and Infastructure

Here is the only problem I see with the overall UP class, listed as follows.......

1 - Walks hand in hand with the Politican Class, since only the Mayor of the town can place city buildings

2 - Too Close to other Player Cities, and Static Cites, building not allowed, meaning only a certain number of each building will be allowed Peroid.....

3 - Cities must reach certain sizes before the player buildings can be added (ie player city of 10 people dont get nothing but a city hall, plyer cities of 100+ get everything) (looking at how Pa's are done ohhhhh boy they going to be some pissed off people)

4 - The biggest problem, Greedy Politican, from my understanding the Taxes collected are going to go dierectly to the mayor, (BAD IDEA) this means for a couple of weeks a player can take all the taxes, and then leave the city, resign his post, and make off with all the money...... See this changing in a hurry.........

Currently as the system is being created, it will only allow the introduction of about 6-12 new cities per planet, pending on how fast the cities grow, and only the first 3-5 will get all the player buildings, as they grow their range of influnce increases, until every spot (cept dead zones around static cities are over run)

The last major problem, you think PA halls are a pain to build, currenly we are the most open class needing only certain types of material, ie steel, ore, but not certain spec types of material (ie Diatium Steel, or intursive ore) to build our buildings.... Player Building as the like will more than likly include spec resourses in creation, need vast ammounts (you though it took a lot to build a PA hall, wait till you build a cantina)

As far as release, as early as next month, withnew big patch, and monthly story, if not, then the following month..... As it is slated that Creature mounts are comming in Oct/Nov, and player Vech during the Christmas Season (anyone thinking another 39.95 for expassion rather than a patch lol)

Check the Dev fourm there is live chat weekdays, where you can learn about lots of planned things, things they thought would work, and didnt, and a few exciting ideas for the future that, we havn't even thought of, but someone there has..... lol

I hope this gives a little insite into the UP, but like I said with SOE it can all change, so keep reading the dev fourms and looking for tid bits....

Peace All, and I will see you all Server Side!

I don't think greedy mayors will be a problem, if it is the city deserves to fail. Only the most organized citys will survive.

Currently I am stocking up on resources for Urban Planner so I can grind it out and hit master in a day or two, my goal is to have atleast a million or two of mix ore along with a good amount of copper, aluminum, and steel.

Other in my town are stocking up on money incase we need to buy some stuff.

I am hoping the mayor can just deposit money into the town, because I foresee the devs screwing it up and making it a big "money sink" so the rich ones in my town will want to put a bunch in so it doesnt hurt everyone else.

The main problem with Urban Planner, as with Politician, is that the market will be VERY limited. After all, if there are say 5 cities per planet (the places where you can put a player city are not so numerous, just look at where you are and imagine if you could put a starport there. ), a half dozen urban planners could be enough to get all the market in one server. I'm pretty sure each PA will want their own UP, but still...

As to the "Mayor greediness", it's up to the people not to elect assholes.

aye i agree that if a group of people have been successful enough to gather enough people around to create a player city, than there must be a known trustworthy mayor amoung them.

As for the small market for Urban Developers, that could definatly be a problem. Im going to becomean urban planner just to help my guild and also because we are about to move to a huge area of flat land that has plenty of room for player city buildings. The only thing i can think of that would increase the market would be if urban planners do indeed have the skill to level the landscape thus allowing more cities with larger areas.

It will be interesting to see how it all turns out, and i cant wait to hear official statements or releases of more pics from the devs

I talk to the Dev's on a regular basis, as do most of the orginal beta's, some of the orginal beta's were asked to contiune on after the games release to provided feed back as to how people were liking the game, so of this is gathered from the fourm, but most is gathered in game (most people dont post on the fourm)

As for everything else, yes Dev's do hold chat sessions, but you might not know the person in the live chat is a dev, unless you were a beta and know the dev's handles.

As far as stock piling resourses, as far as I know the spec types needed to build some of the Player buildings has not, and will not be on server till after the release of the player city patch, stock piling generic resourses will help with the misc needed material, but it may take a month or longer for all the need spec material to filter on to the servers (that is if the get the shifts working right lol)

Player Cities will not get Starports, only shuttle ports..... There is no reason for player cities to get starports, the reason being most planets have multiple of theses already, and that much space travel is just not needed. I agree with this, beacuse if all the player cities had them, then people would completly abandon the Starting Static Cities..... Over all good concept but in the end I figure enough poeple will complain that they will add them, as of now it is not something the Dev's want to add.

For those that wanted to know I play on the Valcyn server now, was on starsider, and few others, but like it on Valcyn.....

There is not much more information to talk about right now, other than Player Cities will be released as early as next month, (with the new monthly story) no later than Nov. (if it is done in Nov it will also come with Creature Mounts, as this has been stated when they will be adding them)

I will post more information as it becomes avalible.... Till then see you all server side, and happy building.....

In addition to player cities I would like to see people that have reached the Master Level be able to teach Novice Skills to folks. A Master would be able to teach new students, but a expert or specialist wouldn't necesarily.

This would allow for PA Cities to have their own resident trainers, and would add extra flair to achieving Master in your craft.

Does urban planner seem much of a waste to anyone else? I mean you will likely not get ANY sales.
By this I mean that to form a player city you need a certain number of people. In most cases you are a PA. Most PA's have a master architect already. My PA of 60 people has 3 Masters and 2 Novice Architects so no one else on the server will get any UP business from us.

Why would I spend 64 skillpoints (assuming elite-elite is the same as elite) to get something that wont make me any money?

I should like to point out that our Correspondent has said this many times and I agree. The Urban Planner is not a fix for architect. We need some renewable income and soon.

i agree that the possibility of sales for urban planners does not look very good.....

I think the only way you could profit as one is if urban planners could make walls, fences, small statues, etc... that are small but still costly to make, which any player city regardless of size could have access to.

So even small player cities of 20 people will have a demand for stuff from urban planners, even though their city is not large enough for the big player city buildings.

This thread has some good ideas on it, hopefully a dev will glance at it

I just hope that urban planner comes with a skill for tera-forming... we all know how strange the landscape can be on most planets, and how annoying it can be to have part of a hill in front of your front door. The only flat landscape in the game is at city's, and unless it automatically flatens land out whenever a urban planner structure is placed (doubtful) we'd need to have some way of tera-forming... otherwise it would'nt be that popular of a profession. just my 2 cents...
