Thread: Exploits...now the nerf

I just need to let off some steam. I was all excited buying the game the first day and sensing that everyone would be equal in the beginning and since I had all summer to play, I'd really get ahead in the game. I didn't play beta, didn't know the exploits, didn't know about macros..so I plugged away as fast as I could..

In ONE week, someone was able to build a player association house!!! And I was still kneeling getting resources and building explosive kits!!!! People were building large houses, large installations, making uber armor...I was amazed, but I kept plugging away...clueless.

I finally attain novice architect and built a factory. I made small houses when I had the resources and the exp was pretty good.

Then the poop hit the fan. One day I was getting great exp, then next day a tenth of it. Now I'm wondering...the devs KNEW about this in beta...so I hear..It took them a month to 'fix' that? So, the people who 'knew' the exploits were given a month to get to the top, while us lowlie customers plugged away humbly and got left behind.

I find this appaulling. I can't sell my stuff, because someone already makes things 5 times better and charging low. By this time in the game, I make small houses and people have enough credits to buy the big houses.

I don't know what the solution is, but I've talked to many crafters and 'new' architects like me and we're fed up and either ready to quit or take up dancing.

I truly believe the Devs did this on purpose, giving the beta testers a way to get ahead with exploits, while leaving the non-testers stranded in the dust.

Well, school is going to start soon, I teach, so I'll have to come to some serious decisions on this.

I really like this gameand waited a long time for its release, everything (except the bugs) is very interesting, lots to do, terrific graphics (if you don't have your settings at low) and we're all waiting for what happens next. Unfortunately for me, I chose the wrong profession.

Hello Qeela,

I am sorry you are having a tough time with all this. As I read your statement I am not exactly sure what exploits you are refering to. BUt I do know that As a architect myself I am not using macros even though I should be a masdter in a week or so. As far as some others making PA's in a week well that is just a lot of guild members working together to get one guy in there guild to master in short periods of time. It would be easy to master the skill of architect if you had all the recourse at hand and the money to pay for the training. The biggest problem most young architects face is getting enough resources to build with.

Enough said on that I guess. But I would suggest that you don't give up being an architect. IT will be very rewarding to you if you stay with it. I knwo this cause I am a loner freelance architect and I have more then enough buisness for you and me both :-). Just a matter of time you get a set of customer tht come to you for all there buisness. I was also in beta and I personally only have two macros one for auto responding to customers that come in my shop and the other to auto harvest hides. So don't thikn that lal beta testers are bad :-) I will help you if you are on my server. (chilastra) I will help you get things setup and running smoothly if you need. Just a side note. Don't use factories for your stuff until you are up into the large buildings 4. otherwise you are wasting lots of good exps.

Howdy,

Getting to master fast isn't the fun part of this game, it's the interactions along the way and getting a little better each time. The people who made master quickly usually did so with either lots of help or a handful of accounts - having 60 lots goes a long ways However don't measure yourself against their progression and you will be much happier. I like to see how many people put me on their friends list as my indication of progress and I'm pretty far up there I think.

Pricing goods is a super hot topic people are always bringing up here, but really it's the relationships that make the business. Most fighter types can make anywhere from 10k-50k a day and sometimes more, if they like you they will come even if your stuff costs 3k more. Also reliability is a big deal, alot of people visit my shop because they know it's there and they know I keep furniture on my vendor there, and houses, and factories as I can. Word does get around good and bad, if you like to talk and explain things and just be nice and friendly in general you get repeat business and they tell their friends and soon enough you have more orders than you can fill and more friends than you can talk to at once!.

I'm 3/4th of the way to master architect now, and honestly not progressing terribly fast anymore - lately I spend alot of time decorating large houses hehe. But my take on the key to getting up faster is make friends who will share their lots with you - cut them a deal even but more harvesters = more progression. If you get into a cash bind sell resources, I find they sell for MUCH more than you can ever hope to get for your goods at least in this stage of the game, I can sell 600 ore for 3000c on main bazaar inside 5-10 min everytime (5 c/r) .

And I'd like to contridict the earlier poster about factories, they do give you exp just like making prototypes and you save a bundle by cutting down on the crit fails. I don't know all the rules to when you do and don't get the exp - but I do know if I stand next to it, or in my house that is in sight of factory I always get the exp and I know if I'm offline I don't Also when using factories stockpile enough to make a signifigant run - you will 'lose' the resources making the schematic so make it count and build 30-50 items at least, which means 10-100k resources depending on what you are building (Struc. modules or wall modules usually).

You Mr. Q didn’t play enough.

I started from the ground, and worked my way up. I worked HARD to become master architect. It makes me sick to think that these people where getting 100% XP from factories.

I’d be angry, if it weren’t so funny a joke on me.

You weren’t a master architect by week 2? then you just didn’t work hard enough.

Yes some people sat in a room and let there PA bring in constant resources, but some of us where just smart:

I leveled quick, got what I could, made deals to trade armor for leather and bone; traded a free small house for two lots from the person.

I NEVER used a factory for the XP, every brick was made by hand, every wall made by hand; all to make sure I got the XP.

Now I’ve been a master arch sense week 2 and not had ANY free game time, because I’ve been so busy making PA halls. I’ve got a couple mill in the bank, and I worked hard to get it... then some punk under cuts me because he want's people to think he's a nice guy. Grr.

Now, you complain that your factory doesn’t give you XP? C’mon tuff it up, and pour your heart into it. I got master in 2 weeks not using a factory once, So can you!

sorr Mrs. :-) *any upset connotations from the previous post where because i paid for my harvesters fully, and never used a factory for the XP... and I’m glad i did, i did it the same way someone would have to if they did it today, INTENTIONALY ignoring exploits*

I wouldn't leave so fast. I have seen the same thing on the server I play on and a funny thing is happening. Some of those who have reached very high levels in crafting are now closing shop to persue other interests. You see these people, either through exploit or good ole fashioned hard work rose to the top of their fields and quickly realized the overwhelming demand they had placed on themselves for their superior goods. I am not an Artisian but have talked to a few who have given up crafting all day justto keep up with their clietel and went out into the world Furthermore, as this game ages crafters are going to come and go at all levels. Others will eventually reach Master and open shop in MY town ...meaning no more long trips to (fill in the blank). If crafting is something you really enjoy I would suggest sticking with it and your time will come.

I should be Master sometime in the next few days. Today, a friend needed two (2) identical structure storage modules. I made them for him in my factory. That was the FIRST time I've ever used a factory. I had to ask him how to do it.

I've had, consistently, ONE friend helping me with resources since release. He's always set one or two of his harvs for Ore for me, even though he needed Ore himself. In the last week or so, as I've gotten closer to master, I've gotten a bit more help from my PA friends, some resources, hides for making furniture, and one guy set up 8 ore harvs for me, but we only got to keep them 2 days before the resource shift.

All that, plus I'm alsoa Master Artisan.

What's the trick? How did these people get so far so fast? Were we all power-crafters from Beta?

No, I don't think so, for the most part. Sure, the ones who were Master in the first week or two were helped by their PA's. But then, that's the point of a PA. I applaud them! I played in Beta myself, but I was a dancer, so I started the live release as a crafting newbie. The trick was, I macro'd for materials at night, and crafted all day, and I played about 10 hours a day. So basically, the trick was I have nothing better to do with my time. LOL.

Don't feel like you're behind or something. There's plenty of room for you, trust me. Not all the Architects flying towards Master are going to stick around either. There's always going to be room for a crafter who is willing to make a name for him or herself. Stick it out for as long as you're having fun, but if that stops... drop those points and spend them on something you enjoy instead!

Magus, could you not post for a few days? I don't believe you've made a non-flame, non-brag post yet. We're all impressed. We all wish to God every night that we were you. Really.

At any rate, we feel your pain Q. Stick with it, though. Don't worry about getting to Master Architect. Try to have fun on your way - and my strongest recommendation:

Don't take orders.

That's right. I've found that the stress of having to fill orders, the stress of /tells asking "Wh3n CaN i H4v3 mY HoUS3 yo!!$???", and the imminent threat of critical failures more than makes up for the increased business. Put your shop in a civilized area. Advertise it. Keep it stocked with medium mineral harvesters and solar generators. Maybe some small houses and furniture. Maybe make some medium homes for your friends.

Architecture can be very stressful. Don't let it force you into another profession.

Don't get too discouraged yet. At least on my server (Bloodfin) now that the pa and first huge crop of architects are now master, and the "happy" architects have closed up shop, the average price on small and medium houses has gone up to "normal" standards.

In other words, I no longer have people accusing me of ripping them off when I tell them my price for a small house is 15k.

Your not out of luck, you can make a living as an architect, even if you were not part of the first wavethat with the help of their PA power leveled to the top.

I actually changed servers in the third week (left bloodfin) and am doing well on my new server (valcryn). I still don't own a factory because I dont want to give up harvester slots. I'm only borrowing a few lots from friends and I sell about 1 medium house a day and maby a small. Sometimes its factorys and sometimes harvesters.

I make a living building to order, I get tells from 2-3 people a day inquiring about my prices and turn 1-2 of those into sales. I try to keep atleast 2 of each personal harvester, and 2 of each piece of furniture for sale on my vendor. Though I'll never have enough torches. My best seller at the moment is Travel packs as a wall mounted storage device for you house. I only charge 500 each, and have trouble keeping them stocked on the bazaar and vendor.

Don't worry about the guys at master level, all their resources are tied up making the really big stuff. You should concentrate on supplying the average player with small a medium houses you can craft from scratch.
