Thread: Exploits...now the nerf
Personally I don't agree with the way this was handled. I did not realize you could get 100% xp at a great distance. Would I have taken advantage of that? Not likely. The times I used my factory were to save me "clicks" when I had items I needed to build. I stood right beside it and expected my full 100% xp as it was just serving as my helper. I think they should have just required you to be, lets say.. within 100m of the factory to get 100% xp and every 10m's further you lose more and more xp. No xp gained if you are within a towns borders.
I mean, why shouldn't you get full xp if your standing right beside your factory? I'll tell you what. I build myself a factory so that I could make my wall modules and save me a ton of clicks and I have never dropped it. Why? 'Cause now I can't get my full xp. So it's back to the slow click and grind for me.
Q...I totally understand how you feel about the 10% thing. Not everyone who got ahead with a factory knew they were using an "exploit" though. I know it seems incredibly naive in retrospect, but I honestly thought it was how it was supposed to work. I knew that they were reducing factory XP to 10% back in beta...after release,a couple friends told me that you *could* get full factory XP if you were online and within 300 meters of the factory. I thought that was pretty cool and figured that SOE had realized how bad it sucks to click hundreds of structural modules and decided that we could use the factory as an "assistant" as long as we were close to it.
I would totally agree with not getting XP if you just set your factory running and then took off to go do something else. I like the idea of getting diminishing XP as you move further away, but there is no reason in my mind that a good case of carpal tunnel syndrome should qualify me to be a master architect.
Finding a master architect and subcontracting with him to do the walls for a PA hall is a great idea and got me pretty far. Yes, my hand actually hurt when I was done with all those walls, but it was huge XP. And as for making tons of stuff and selling low, it's not the masters that are doing it from what I can tell. As soon as I hit master, my prices went up and so did the prices of several other masters I know just for the fact that I don't want to live with that pressure again of "areyoudoneyetareyoudoneyet??" and having to tell a customer who provided his own materials that I crit failed on the final combine and he'll have to wait another day. Right now I'm just making stuff for my friends and over time I'll expand my business again.
The trick to mastering Architecture is simply having TONS of resources. No other profession requires as many resources to produce items as ours does. The reason you saw a select few at Master quickly is because there were many PA's ready to go at launch. If you have 50 + players collecting resources for a few PA crafters they have plenty of resources to pump out a lot of product for their fellow PA'rs

My wife made master architect a week ago. Neither of us played beta, we maintained and powered our harvesters and we had some help from friends this final week.
It is do-able, just takes time. We have been power gaming these first few weeks to get a PA Hall and thats how we got there so quickly.
