Thread: What the FLAMING FUDGE is WRONG with people?(Rant about Valcyn's Pricing going sour in a week)
http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=Valcyn&message.id=1566
I've worked my hiney off for a week to get to Installations 4(got it today) and this newbie comes out of nowhere, promising prices whose demand he can NOWHERE reach(I *know* because I've tried prices about 50% higher then that and been spammed into oblivion at those rates. I had to stop selling items to order because of it.
Yet here is some idiot who might not even realise he's going to destroy the economy. Once word gets out that you can "get a factory for 30k"(EVEN IF HE CANT SELL THEM DUE TO LACK OF RESOURCES) all is prettymuch lost. I don't know what to do, I'm speechless.
*end rant*
Umm, if you *know* he can't meet these prices, then why are you worried? He'll go out of business or raise his prices if you are correct.
He just hit medium harvesters. Running 4 medium harvesters it'll take the guy a day minimum to make a factory by hand. If he's smart he'll build a structure factory, except he CAN'T because he obviously doesn't have buildings 1 yet.
So you sell him some "Storage Component" for 1000 each and see if that affects his prices ![]()
And there's no way he's going to sell a medium gas or chem harvester for 12k. They take as much stuff to make as a factory.
So relax. If he goes out of business, you'll be fine. If he doesn't, ask him how he does it and get together.
Is there any way to reason with people who are intent on destroying themselves and others?
I have been selling factories for 22K on Bria for a week now, and have been making a steady profit. I'm not rich by any means, but I have loyal customers and good business, and it's entirely sustainable. I don't think 30K is too much to ask by any means.
It shouldn't be any surprise to anyone that this has happened. It will settle down though, we just have to deal with it. Those that are running themselves out of business (because they're really leveling, not trying to run a business) will do so. They'll wake up, or burn out. Just keep your chin up. And don't fall prey to it and do the same.

That's how the economy works. If he can turn a profit selling at 30K, then good for him! And shame on you for trying to rip us off!
However, and once again, you could sell the resources that it takes to make the factory easily for 40K.
I buy my ore at 5credits a piece, and that's from "cheap" people. Nobody sells any lower because we've got almost no ore on the market, and nobody got medium harvesters pre-sample nerf(cause we're post-sample nerf entirely.)
I understand your situation, I've seen, on Scylla, an architect stating his price for Medium Mineral Harvestors is 3k. And it has already soured the market for them I've been told, people think anything higher than that MUST be price gouging :/.
Don't sell for less than your work is worth. Don't undercut your value just to make a sale.
I hope the market starts settling down. Prices for Armour and Weapons are WAY above what they should be, no matter how much the armoursmiths and weaponsmiths deny it, or how hard they make it out to be.
The architect profession is by far the hardest artisan profession, hands down, you will always need 10+ times the resources than any other artisan to make 10+ times less items that sell for 10+ times less than what other artisans sell their products for. And no-one except another honest architect, or anyone with half a brain and an ability to read pages such as www.swgcraft.com, will know the true cost of what you make.
I hope I haven't depressed anyone.
Have fun with what you do. Most of you do it well and deserve to be properly compensated.
Actually this just happened too. I went into town and said I was selling medium houses and medium harvesters. I got two tells that people were interested in medium homes. They asked my price and I gave it to them. One guy was like, oh I just don't have enough money. No big deal. The other guy was like wow, I know people selling them for like 40K-50K. So I sat and explained it to him that I sell for 5 creds/unit and that worked out to about 105K. The guy said "Oh really? That seems like a fair pricing 5 creds/unit. Man that sucks that people are selling them for so low, but that is what the price is now." That was pretty much the jist of it. So this guy felt for us but why would you spend more if someone else is selling them for less. So then I told him that's why I don't sell too many buildings. All he said was that was a good idea. Personally I think the market will someday turn around.

I think you just have to roll with it, a similar thing is happening in most item markets - sellers drastically undercut to make the sale (normally they want the usage xp more than the money onthe low cost stuff) and pretty soon that price is all the customer will pay - but if no one can _really_ sustain supply at that price then supply will drop, as the demand grows (due to the lack of the supply) higher prices will _have_ to be accepted by the customer if they want the item (because suddenly they wont be able to get it for less)
It'll be very boom/bust at the start, unfortunately you just have to wait out those that are grinding their way through your items market place, or those that think they can make a quick buck on that product- if your serious about supplying that market you should be wait until they move on to the next grinding item or realise they cant sustain those prices and meet the demand
