Thread: Some times we forget....
I followed Bri's link from the ID forums and your post is excellent. Many of us do get caught up in pushing the numbers, I switched from Chimaera to Infinity to start as a more social character and i'm loving every second of it. It's just great to be able to take the time and listen to and help new players - something you really don't get to do when your main goal is leveling Rifleman and CH on Dathomir hunting Rancors!
I hope more people take note of your post Dvnce and stop and think, maybe look around and take in what is going on around them. Just head to Mos Eisley, hang around, listen, relax and chill-out.
Aw!
*feels all warm and fuzzy*
This is why I still like to hang out with the "newbs" in Cantinas. We really do have a cool game here! Thanks for sharing Dvnce!
*tries to sneak back to the Dancer forum with a few crates of Candles and Pictures* ![]()
I know what ya mean...why im now starting to lvl a commando on TestCenter....and took up a "commando padawan" on chilastra hehe...
Simple things...reminding how hard it was and how long things took....brought me back to launch..and guess what? im actually having some more fun now...
Makes perfect sence.
For the last month, Ive been hanging around Mos Eisley almost exclusively for this reason alone. I love to help out newbies. Not just any newbie but the ones that dont ask for money and thank you for the time you took to give them a few primers. I even give myself battle fatigue (by surveying for radio active) to help out the new entertainers. Whenever I see a newbie medic in the medical center, I stop by to talk, even though I may not have wounds. Its also a great place to get AP xp
.. not that I need it because ive never done the holo grind.
One thing I recommend us veterans: Dont ever give a newbie money or gear because you'll be depriving them of what is fun which is buying new thingson your own.
Allot is going to change in the next coming months. They are:
- End of holo grind. This will make people stop xp crunching and start laying back more, socializing in cantinas and cities.
- Combat Balance will shift the hunting from the Elite planets back to Starter planets. Veterans will start to mix in with newbies a little more.
I cant wait to give newbies a joy ride on my YT-1300 ![]()
Ah..the joys of noobiness.
I remember taking my first combatmission, Corellian Butterflies. I ran up with my piddly little pistol...managed to kill one eventually...then shot the lair and everything charged at me!! Also remember the time I ran away from a mission as I was getting hammered and ran into some NPC's who finished off the mobs...I was so happy and was thanking them all, as I thought they were PC's and hadnt really heard of NPC's before.![]()
Id love to go back to that time...from time to time I start a character on a new server just to go through it again and its fun, having absolutely no cash and not much of anything else.
I must admit when I go through Mos Eisley I dont usually stop for long, but after reading this post I think ill stick arounda little longer next time im there...maybe even get a ton of wounds or pretend im an NPC or something and give out silly missions.

How do we get back to that? Re-Roll ![]()
Just kidding of course.
Honestly, I have 2 characters in this game, one is my Architect the other is my combatant. This gives me the ability to grind on a daily basis, with the architect of course, or to go out and do battle with my Master TK/Novice Rifleman avatar. It's what keeps me fresh. But as you asked is, what would bring this back? Well, take away the 'Grind' feeling of making items.
I'm sorry to say, but with us being able to have vendors, the personal touch really isn't there. Do I want vendors done away with, no, I love my Architect having the Master Merchant skills and abilities, besides, where would I store all my stuff? lol
But we need to get back to that personal touch. Interaction is the key here. Bottom line for us, the Architects, is of course, without new people joining this game and getting excited about owning their first house and decorating it, we wouldn't see much business. We've pretty much covered all the old timers that have been here in game for more than 4 or 5 months. Getting back to that residule income, and having people send us tells with the.. 'Can you build this for me' questions, and bringing back interaction is the key.
When I was going full blown with my Architect, yes, he's semi-retired now, and doesn't build much for anyone, I was interacting with people. The fact that we have such a limit on what we can do with the items we build, really takes that 'Personal Touch' out of the game. Things like colorization of furniture is a start, if you make it an Architect only issue, then the Architect and the Customer, both, feel important and will discuss things about the future purchase.
This is where it's all at, this is the basic step to return to this, INTERACTION. The personal touch. If we can get that back in to the game and the proffesion(s), then perhaps that feeling will return to alot of people, because they will get excited about their purchase, because they have a hand in it's creation. Once they start getting excited about it, that feeling becomes addictive, like a drug, and spreads to the Architect, who in turn spreads it to those he/she is around. The more people feel excited about ONE thing, the more things they will begin to look at in a different light. It's a good circle to look at, instead of a vicious one. The crafters need that 'Feeling' back too, just because there are a few new people trying this game out or evening coming into the game, doesn't change it for everyone. We need a reason to feel this way too, the old heads here in the game, will eventually wear down the new people, and it's back to the way it was, with a few more victims to fall prey to this discouraging feeling.
In the end, give us a reason to be a part of someones gaming life. We need to become more interactive, to be a part of each person that we deal with or associate with. That's when the feeling will return. But for now, without having that reason for interaction, and having that personal touch, most of us will not regain that feeling.
Just my outlook at this.
ya, i try to help out newbies when i get an opportunity. i too remember how exciting and challenging this game can be at first. i remember spawning in Tyrena on day one of release, walking just out of town and attacking a corellian butterfly. i got incapped and two guys stood over me and said, "newb." very funny to me as this was day one of release. i remember how excited i was when i found my first sword and could stop pursuing fencer with a dagger. though even the newbies today are a bit deprived of that. everything is at their disposal and the knowledge base is there now if they want to cruise the faqs and figure out how to powergame. in the beginning everyone was learning along with you. i remember how great i felt when after three or four months i finally mastered fencer and became only the 2nd person on the server to do it. now you can do it in three or four days.
so, when i get a chance i try to help them out, but not too much. i don't just give them credits. and won't give them top gear. give them the resources to craft a couple of personal harvs. or a min survey device. or some bone armor. save their innocence, don't hand them your old 80% kinetic composite.
this is a great game and it is easy to get caught up in powering thru it. it feels good to think back on when it was more challenging and new.
