Thread: Critical Failure Rate High after the 8-20-03 patch.

Wanted to share my frustrations with the DEV and correspondent. Last night I need to make replacement Mineral Extractors (med size) to replace the one I let decay be cause my RL had me out fishing for 3 days. Come back to the game download the patch and find they have improved the graphics and frame rate. I do my 1.5 hr hopper run. Then I start looking for new mining areas. Another hour burned! Find a few spots that look promising. Look in inventory and have enough supplies for 4 new mineral extractors (med). Start making the first one. Make all the parts, now at final stage and poof! You have had a critical failure! Blank stare at the screen?!?!? All the stuff is still in the slots. What's going on? Hit the back button. Damm, back at the schematics screen. Look in inventory yep I am down all the resources put into crafting station. Now I am thinking "Man that sucked! Hope it doesn't happen again" Start building parts again; five complete crafting sessions later (still working on parts for final combine effort) fail 2 times in a row. Now I am thinking this is not good! Finally get parts for second try and poof! It happened again. Now I am mad! Thinking, no WISHING I could call SOE DEV at home and vent! This is terrible way to treat any crafting class. You should TAKE CRITICAL FAILURE OUT OF THE GAME UNTIL YOU HAVE IT WORKING ON THE TEST SERVER CORRECTLY! Just like you did for corpses losing items.
This is not very customer friendly way of doing things! I have a limited time to play each night and this makes me not want to play at all! What does it take to get a answer or a better yet a sign that you acknowledge this as a problem or explain the idea behind critical failure! It would go along way to making me feel better! I am sure others would be grateful. If I know this is unintended, then I can just start hording resources and hold out on building things until you get it fixed!

Sincerely,

Very Unhappy Player!

8/20/03? hmm.. time warp? (what part of the world are you in to be 2 days ahead of MST?)

Anyway, I see an alarming number of people complaining about this.. is this horked in the last 2 days? I dont think I made anything last night, just ran harvesters, and I only ran harvesters this afternoon at lunch.. I am afraid to go home and craft something.. seems like everyone is having crit fail probs on like 80-100%..

I agree that critical failures have increased . After last night I want a t-shirt that says "Architect" on the front and "Crit Happens" on the back.

The crit rate is different, not sure if it is higher. It seems that there is a time when all you do is crit then other times when you can do no wrong. There is the question of tool quality now that they have a number. Not sure if they really make a different yet or not. Also don't use droid crafting station. I was grinding to BE on a med component and got a few failures here and there. Someone pulled out their droid with the med crafting module, I could not experiment, and I was criting every 3rd time. So that may make a difference.

Two things:
Have you made new crafting tools anytime lately? After the last patch I checked mine out and found out they had crafting modifiers of -12 and -14, respectivly. So I made new ones, each with a +6.6 modifier.
And how about your crafting station? Again, checked my old one. Was also around -10 on the skill modifier, made a new one with a +4 modifier. (Think it was +4..)
Result? A lot less critical failures. Sure, I crit failed on 3 wall modules yesterday, out of 20, but.. Still not too bad.

And as I've said before: Crit failures aren't that bad, if you take them in to consideration when you set your pricing. Way too many Architects don't, which is why they sell small houses for 5-7k or PA halls for 150k.

Cheers,
Morlok

Alright, I've wasted a ton of resources to test this now, I've not successfully made anything that takes wall modules or manufactoring mechs since the "big" patch.

*nothing*

So far I've kapooted on the following:

4 S&F Factories
3 Medium Mineral
2 Medium Generic Houses (one of each)
1 Equipment Factory

They all poofed on the final combine, some had absolutely NO fails during the item creation others had a couple fails on structural modules or something similar, in the mean time I've made close to 20 small houses and dozens of personal harvs. A single fail during that entire mess if I remember right.

This is *bad* whatever they did that causes the resources to stay in the slots and such *really* screwed up the crit fail rate on complex items. So far as I can tell it's 100% on complex items and about 1%-2% on lesser items. Resource for resource i'm averaged out to an 80% fail rate on final combine. This is silly stupid. I'm done crafting anything larger than a small house until this gets resolved.

I would like someone else with alot of resources to spare to test this so we have a alternate backup source, I can't afford to eat anymore ore than I already have.

I feel bad for the next person to try to make a PA hall... who tries it twice. *shudder*

Until this last patch they weren't bad at *all*.

They were peachy for me...

My tools btw are 8.19 & 8.92 for my S&F Kits and 16.19 for my station.

Those values might be able to go a point or two higher, but not to awful much.

Like I said, quite literally anything thing that requires wall modules and such I seem to automagically fail on.

Yep. Master Architect here using a +15 tool and a +16 crafting station. I'm getting more critical failures than I was getting pre-patch with tools that showed as -13 and a crafting station that showed as -8 after the patch.

Yep I had similar results. I finally made 3 Mineral harvesters after poofing 2 and many parts. That never happened before. I would get a poof every 15 combines or so. Not every 4 to 5 and then 2 in a row. It is very frustrating and not to mention costly! Are you listening SWG DEV?!!

Ok.. I've really had enough of these critical failures. Out of 5 houses, 3 of them Critical Failures. I have Furniture III, I was near a +13 crafting station with a good tool and good OQ 450+ resources. Out of the 50 blocks.. maybe 1 or 2 critical failured. And what luck the **edit** houses criticaled.

Now seriously.. this needs to be fixed ASAP. I can't imagine how much anger the people have who do this with PA Halls.. I couldn't take it I'd quit.

Enough with this bs, get it fixed please.
