First off sorry if this is old news, I know its been rumored, but i dont get to the boards too often and I dont see anything regarding this.

This is a quote from the In Development section of the site.

October In Development List

This is what we have scheduled for our next monthly publish. We expect it to go on to Test Center by early November.

  • Mounts (six different types including the Dewback and Kaadu)
  • Player City code: Voting, Taxation, Militia and City Growth
  • New Buildings: City Hall, Player Cantina, Player Hospital, Player Theatre, Player Bank, Player Shuttleport
  • New Professions: Politician
  • Themepark badges/rewards
  • Various bug fixes and profession enhancements

So Politician is the only "New Profession" coming yet we are getting access to new schematics, does anyone know if this is true? Has Urban Planner been scrapped?

During the Dev chat the other week, it was said that they were considering putting the player city buildings into the architect profession, possibly replacing the useless Construction discipline. At the time they were uncertain whether they were going to go with Urban Planner or not. This may be the first clue to their final decision.

I think they should have been working on player cities more to get it out sooner than mounts. Yeah, it will be nice to have mounts, but player cities would have been great sooner.

The speed I believe will be no faster than a burst run.

i'd rather have quicker transport than cities. i have to get to all those player cities, and i don't want to run. if they don't have a shuttleport yet (which I hope is up a ways in the "city-scale"...hope it's not one of the first things you can put down....) then at least i can take some other mode of transportation. and i agree with dayln (again?!)....mounts will be burst run speed or slightly faster, that's it. I can just see the races now....A Human burst runs against a guy riding a dewback...how funny....first to get to the that tree that will fade in eventually wins a /tip 500!!!

only the good cities will have shuttle ports, which should be that way.... If I remember correctly from the dev chat it sounded like you had to be at tier 3 of a city to get a shuttle.... Rough estimates would be about 30-40 people for tier 3..... But the devs them selves have said these numbers will be balanced.

But I can gurantee only the avg to great cities will get a shuttle. The small 10 people towns/guilds wont be able to get them.

also on another note.... I really hope they do scrap Urban Planner

There are too many architects as it is, everyone of them shouldn't be able to make the shuttleports, cantina, etc... That would not be fun, relistic, or cool.

I wouldn't mind if Urban PLanner isnt a full tree, but someone should have to atleast be master architect and then some. To be able to build a town, u should need someone dedicated, not just some novice architect.

Has there been any discussion on capping the number of players that would be able to learn a specific profession?

I noticed this also and I must admit I am glad if they scrap it. I wanted to be an Urban Planner and have been holding onto the skill points to do so. If it is scrapped that means I can get some other skills like oh say exploration I think the adding the schematics to Architect is a smart idea. Urban Planner would sureley suffer the same economic problems as Architect (and still will) but spending another 60 something skill points to do it just seemed like pouring salt in the wound.

Dropping urban planner is just admiting they are pushing player cities out in a rush.

For folks that think making UP items Architect what will be your thoughts when you see the novice architect standing on the street corner hawking Shuttle Ports for 100k? (My assumption is that all UP items will require at least as many resources as a PA).

There are currently too many architects, devoting some players to UP would decrease the number of architects concentrating on architect items and only a small portion would devote their points and time/money to UP.

Part time Architects that only take bits and pieces of architect skill and novices that are just starting out should not be able to create Urban items.

If they put all the UP skematics at MA and not spread them throught the tree, I'll be somewhat molified but if those skematics are spread along the housing or installations tree I'll very much consider dropping architect and having my group buy our player city items from the lowest lowballer on the galaxy.

i don't like the idea of placing the urban planner structures in the architect profession. If we allow them to do that with this profession, they'll do the same with the other professions that are required for making vehicles and ships.

An urban Planner should be someone who is devoted to the skill, someone who has taken the extra training needed to build complicated structures like a Shuttle Port. if anything, atleast make it so that they have to get to master architect and spend apprentice points to learn the new profession, even if its just a single block of 4 boxes, each adding more city structures as they go up.

If it was me, i'd make it where you need to be a master architect, and have 240k architect exp and 1240 apprenticeship points to go urban planner. why ? because only those totally dedicated to the craft would be willing to go the distance.
