Thread: Almost 20 hours to factory make 100 walls! Give me a break

I know that this has been raised in the wishlists and has been raised more times than any other Architect "feature".

But I just wanted to have a /rant & a /rave at the sheer stupidity of factory times ingame - more to remind the Devs and SOE that this problem still exists and -along with 10 minute shuttle wait times, etc -adds to the sheer stupid time wasting that still exists in SWG almost 8 months since release.

64 seconds to make a structure component!! By hand it takes me less then 10 (quicker if I could be bothered macroing it). So for me to factory make a 1000 structure components takes the factory all of 17 hours and 42 minutes (give or take a couple of minutes). To then turn those 1000 components into a 100 walls takes another couple of hours.

Or I could just sit there and do the old mindless click, point, make, empty backpack when full, stop at every 30 or so and make a couple of walls, groan when crits occur, etc, rinse and repeat.

These pointless wastes of time seriously affect the enjoyability factor of the game- yet SOE persist in having them ingame. The mind boggles at how their decision-making processes must run.

do you just sit there and watch your factory when u add stuff to it?

I sure dont, i go do other stuff while my factory is making its items. I also fill the factory with resources just before I go bed and let it make some more stuff while im sleeping.

Same here, I make bricks every night that I can. I usually load it up with ore and metal at night before I go to bed and the next day I've got a few hundred structure modules waiting for me. Structure modules are the main time hog for deeds because we need so many of them. Every week or twoI take a night to make all the generator turbines that I can.

I try to have the factory (actually, 2) going just about all the time, but realistically they are probably running 25% of the time. Same deal - load them up and then log off or go move harvesters or meet with customers or whatever. I seem to have the right rhythm with my business now such that I almost never have to wait for a factory run to process an order. I have walls, OMU, generator turbines, power cores, etc on hand to build things with, and when the supplies start running low on the components I either pop the schematic back in with the stuff and do another batch or create a new schematic.

The only thing I sometimes have to wait on for big orders is walls, and that's because I flat out don't have the ore, and have to tell the customer that it will be 1-2 days before I can complete.

Obviously I'd love for the factories to be faster, but in general it doesn't hamper me.

Actually I do quite a bit of "other stuff" ingame and rarely "sit there watching the factory". But with only one factory running 24x7 (and believe me, this one never stops producing components) I feed the thing maybe once a day and then set it going.

I suppose I could make smaller amounts of things but I like to do things all at once /shrug.

I typically make schematics for 1000 items. Most of the time I only put some of the resources in because of issues of storage. So I'll make a schematic for 1000 SSSM, but only run off like 100 at a time so I don't have to deal with storing the things. That has the advantage of not tying up the factory for too long also. The only downside is that I need to keep an eye on my supply and do short runs more often.

Yeah, I nomally do that as well. The 20hours I was referring to was the total time taken to make 100 walls (to keep in stock). Thats 17hours for making 1000 Structure Components, and then another couple of hours to turn those SC's into walls.

Most other runs are in the couple of hours with long ones (like these) running over night whilst I'm offline.

Still, I can't see why it takes less time to build a speederbike (which has a high complexity rating), than it does to build a structure component. Strange days indeed

ahhh My favorite thing to do ... 200k ORE 50k Metal = 1000 sturcture Mods.. leave it for 24 hours and BLAM!!! you have the base for 100walls, then the time it takes to make the walls.. 2 words... 2 Factories.. I have 2 and so should you...

Heading that way - do you know how hard it is to find someone dependable and trustworthywho will permanently lend you two lots?? One here is bloody hard (been ripped off once and lost a factory and a 100 wall units *sigh*).

well.... if it was fast and easy then everyone would do it and we would have no one to buy our stuff...

think about the poor medics that make stim packs to sell as their income. 3 componants for a stim B, 36 odd hour factory run for 1000... thats each, for each componant.... then then again for the crates of stims.

shuttle wait times are something else all together.. you dont want to get me started on that heh

I have set up 3 factories now, and sometimes even that is not enough, last night I had all 3 running, one with structural modules, 1 with wall modules, the other with Harvesters, and I still have 2 factory runs waiting ! I am often taking half of a run out to feed into another factory, or suspending a run to make something else, main reason is that I try to make as much as possible at a time. I am also held up by the schematic limit, 1000 is just not enough for structural modules, that only makes 99 walls whic is only in turn enough for 32 medium gas/chem/flora harvesters. One trick I have been working with is to run 2 factories on 1000 structural modules with the other on 400 walls, then I can feed the structural modules as they finish each run, into the wall factory and start a new batch of 1000. But this is so time consuming and still gets held up when I log and can't move stuff about

Ahhhh to be able to macro factory runs, macro movement of components between factories and in and out of output and input hoppers

Of course, an easy fix for factories would be to let us all experiment the efficiency, effectively lowering build times.
