OK Last night I had a incident occur, and I'd like to know if I did the right thing.

Scenario:

I have a guy thats my front man for PA halls so I don't have to deal witht hem. He has a 'freind' that says she will pay 60K a day for 10 days for one. Great, so its my first PA hall. I ask him if he will personally guarentee this and that if she flakes-will he cover the difference. He says he will. So I make it. Whew no crit failure and at the end im basically broke with few resources left.

But hey-60K a day should help me recover. So we message her. She doesn't have any money-not even the 60K for the first days payment. At this point my freind is still willing to go forward with it. I'm not too OK with it though. but we're all chatting, then she accidently mistells me. And I hear "Hey huns.../tip me 200 for the shuttle, im broke because I just spent 500K on a PA hall".

WTH? No she DID NOT just spend 500K on a pa hall. So she's not being 100% honest with someone. With someone she calls hun. Go in game, type /badfeeling. So I say-no way we should do this my freind, she's going to leave you holding the bag. She claims she wasn't expecting us to have it ready so soon and she spent all her cash on BE.

In the end-I just didn't like the sounds of this-but if my freind was still willing to co-sign for her I'd do it. He however is also getting that /badfeeling. So he tells her 1/2 up front or no deal-we're even willing to wait a bit at this point, and I indicate to her that I'm also willing to sell to her at 500K. She goes ballistic. then shh goes ballist on me. Tells me im greedy, that we had a deal [uhmm..no you and my freind did #1, and #2 you broke it when you didn't have the cash ready as promised, and #3 you're not 100% honest with folks]. I tell her I may be paranoid but im not greedy. She cusses etc.

OK so now im stuck with a Naboo PA hall. Incidently Naboo is a beatifull place. So I goto the threed cantina to see if I can find a buyer. So im chatting with folks about it and who should walk in? Yup the previous buyer. Who begins to fume, then starts telling everyone im greedy and dishonest, spits on me and challenges me to a duel. Yup like a crafter is going to accept. LOL. calls me a coward for it etc.

Well I figure at this point I figure if she wants it public I'll explain to folks why she is mad. I do so. They tell her to 'get over it'. She may have missed my response to her since she put me on ignore earlier after her calling me names.

Anything I did throughout this was wrong or should have been done differently?

Sounds like you saved yourself some trouble. I am not quite Master Architect yet, but I don't sell with payment plans... its all upfront or nothing. I cut close firends some slack though, but still I have to know I am going to get paid 100%.

If I were a gamblin wookiee I would say that player was aboutto take the deed and scram.

I would never sell something that valuable on a payment plan. If she didn't have at least the first payment its her problem.

I have done some medium extractors in exchange for the first 2-3 days of production, but too much risk to do a pa hall on credit to someone you don't know.

You did the right thing. There is no way to make sure you will get any payments when you finance. The only thing you have is trust and your gut feeling.

My experiance is that most people who do what the other player did (the screaming, spamming, etc.) are trying to run some sort of scam to begin with, even if it is a minor one. The only way to look like the person who is being scammed is to be the first and the loudest one to accuse the other party.

The main thing you have in this game is you integrity. You keep yours in my opinion.

Maybe SOE will implement some time of lien system. Have them pay into an account and they have a certain amount of time to complete the payment. Bring up something like the trade screen. Both parties would have to accept amount and time. If it wasn't complete by then, the deed would revert to the possesion of the seller. Might be a bit complicated and not sure how much demand there would be for something like this. But might be interesting.

I like the lien idea..

I also think that you should get at least 3 references if you are gonna give credit.. granted they could be 3 bogus people, but most people in this game are honest, and finding 3 dishonest people to confirm that this person is good for their word could be tough.. especially if her guildies think she is paying the 500k for their hall..

lol. one of the statements she made that made me laugh was 'if I gyped you you could /report me and get me banned"

She claimed that SOE had just banned a scammer from wanderhomeand made him play on a different galaxy because of this.

I actually almost laughed so hard that pop came out my nose. It was a close thing.

A couple of points here.

1) Even if you consider she had an oral contract, she broke the contract when she didn't have the first 60k.

2) Since she was out nothing and you were out something (the time and materials) you were the harmed party, not her.

3) The ignore list is a wonderful thing. Make it your friend.

You did right. Don't worry about it. Remember that there are a lot of kids and very immature adults out there who know there's nothing you can do if they put one over on you.

I'm a Master Architect and while I do give a lot of stuff away on credit, it's only to my friends and neighbors, and never more than I can afford to lose.

For a very valuable item such as Medium houses and up, my statement is simple: "The deed gets transferred when the cash hits my account - not before, and no exceptions." That is absolutely fair to both parties and no one should complain about it. If they do, then that should be suspicious to you and you should tell them to buy somewhere else.

On the other hand, I'm very generous with up-front equipment to friends and neighbors in our little Village of Oz, most often trading harvesters or structures for future repayment in ore or metals, at a mutually agreed-upon amount and that includes furniture or anything else I can craft.

This has proved itself to be very beneficial for the person in that I front them the equipment that they use to make their money as well as their debt (always a set amount so that a debt is "paid" and the person is never left feeling they owe anything further). In turn, they usually come back to me for more structures (although they never have to) as they build their wealth. Works very well for both sides. I've found everyone so far has been quite honorable about it and very much appreciative and that far outshines the occasional (expletive deleted) I run into.

You can come visit us at our village on your hunting expeditions if you like. We're just across the river, south of the Imperial Outpost on Talus in the Bria Galaxy. In case you get messed up, Lilith, our resident doctor, runs a great Medical Clinic in the village as well as a vendor for Stimpaks and the like. In case you WANT to get messed up, you should drop by Nicholas' Cantina and say hi. Nothing like a flaming drink to quench the thirst and end a lovely day of getting blaster bolts up the butt by the Binayre Pirates that infest the area, who, by the way, cling to the bottom rung of the criminal ladder.

Sure sounds to me like she was set to rip you off and got caught. People that get caught in lies usually react like that. You did the right things. One thing you might think of doing is if you know who the PA is and its not her go to them and explain what happened. She may get kicked out of the PA and they might buy the hall from you.

#1 rule: No credit PERIOD. There is no viable in-game method of enforcing it, and it is never worth it to have to worry whether you are going to get your credits when you should be out enjoying the game. Bravo on the good judgement. If anything, I'd offer to hold it for 10 days, where she can go out and make 60k per day, that way if she doesn't, at least you have the ability to sell it later.
