The proposed changes to merchant have been canceled.
I find it interesting that Tiggs made the announcement at 5:34.... Sunday evening. Something tells me that the devs themselves were not in agreement on this one to start with.
Based upon community feedback we have decided to take this design internally and work on it some more before we release it to Test Center.
We are leaving this thread open so you can continue to give us feedback and we can update you once the new design is posted.
Thanks!

Bullies? I would hardly call the majority of the players expressing their concerns over this as bullying. I for one am glad they have re-considered. There were a couple of good ideas in the change but were just implemented incorectly in my opinion. Should be interesting as to what changes.

I have a few question for you... Do you Enjoy being an architect? Does playing that role and providing architectual goods for the consumer satisfy you in your game play? Should you not have the right to Price ANY way that you want to?
Why should I not be given the same respect? I am sure that I personally am at the OTHER end of the spectrum as you when it comes to prices.. My costomers KNOW that there are other people that charge significantly less than I do but for some reason they buy from me... Do I threaten to take away their Birthday if they dont buy from me? People buy things based on Value and that is not something that we the suppliers cant ever define for the customers sure we can do our part in trying to SHOW value... but in the end it is 100% up to the buyer what value they take from the item in question. Just as you have every RIGHT to sell for what ever price you want to should I not be given the same respect after all we do spend the same amount of money to play..?
These Changes that were proposed did two things..
1) Made it easier for the Customers to find our Products ( good thing )
2) Create an even Field for people to sell their Products.. ( sounds Good But )
The But... Not only does this Whipe out half the skill points you invest in for merchant it also creates a Field where people MUST compete on Price. There are different types of Retail Stores in RL.. Costco -- Walmart --- Sears --- and then the upper rim ( you know the ones that rub your feet and serve you shampain while you sit in a comfy chair and have people bring you products to look at ) You can pretty much buy the same products from each type of store but you will not pay the same price... what I am saying is we should be able to run our businesses the way we want to Just like you should not be forced to raise your prices and rub your customers feet the other end should not be forced to streamline and become a bargain basement. You put the exact same product side by side totally removed from the atmosphere that shop owners have created and only put up Price as means of Comparison.. the only way to compete is price.. Not Healthy and Not Fun to play that way for everyone..
The Problem.. It is sometimes Hard for customers to find products with out having to run to vendor after vendor ....
Solution... Give Player Cities a Market terminal that they can place. Customers Can access this and see ALL Registered Vendors In that City. Customer can access that vendor and See Current Inventory if customer likes what they see they can activate vendors waypoint..This gives a draw to player cities which they need... this also can be tied into merchant skills so that skill point investment is protected.
this in combination with the 1 minute shuttles will Cut 80% shopping time. and nothing else needs to be added.. After all the problem has nothing to do with wanting Every Shop Owner to be a bargain basement.. This satisfies the Problem with out taking away from anyones current gameplay....

Well.. And here is my Personal feeling... These Shopping Districts around Theed and Coronet already have an advantage over Player Cities.. and that is of Location.. Player Cities have been lacking a reason to draw merchants ( especially with sales tax being added to the equation ) I personally am PRO Player City 100%.. and I would love to see things introduced into the game that would actually give people a Benifit to moving to a city and taking "ownership" in citizenship..
But.. If the Masses ( you all ) disagreed with me and voiced that you specifically wanted to accomodate these Shopping Districts then you could also put these terminals at the Bazaar too and have it take in to account XXXX meters around said city..

I actually think this is not such a great solution. Nothing personal mind you. I have a suggestion for a possible solution however. What if the devs were to impliment a search, similar to the way you would search for a smuggler or a ID... in the Ctrl P pane, either a new section could be added for just vendors in the area, and you would be able to search for a type of item of a particular vendor name. No need for added terminals, just a new drop down menu.
For example lets say Im in Coronet. I need a master end table. I pull up my search window, use the drop down menu to select Architect items. There would then be a list of vendors that had items on them and the number of items and any entry fees. That last bit prevents the ever popular 99999999 Travel Pack and its entry fee.
Im sure that this idea needs to be debated, but I think the basic premise is sound. The system seems as though it is already in place in the form of looking for other players/factions/species and professions. It doesnt seem like such a stretch to add vendors and basic info about them to this feature.

Ok, my first post was unfair and childish. It would have been more wise to say I feel this is a blow, but knowing that this has NOT been cancelled and that all voices are being heard, not just the con, I feel much happier about the outcome.
If, in fact, it is the majority will to refrain from showing prices I will begrudgingly support it. I would prefer for this last bastion of protectionism to be removed.

Idon't think anyone isopposed to a broader search system. I do of course see how that would be beneficial for consumers. I think most of us can relate to the horror stories of spending X hours going from vendor to vendor trying to find an item.
Some sort of compromise solution would be best and I expect thats what SOE is trying to come up with now.
