Thread: What do you pay for Ore?

Just a quick poll - what do most architects pay for their ore? Or do you mine all of your own?

I recently started a character on Tempest and have been mining ore to build up my bank roll. My thought was that the recent change in experimentation, futher experiment changes and the player cities coming will put a huge strain on the ore supply and send prices up. So far I have been listing it on the bazaar for 6c each (500 for 3k credits) and it has been selling almost immediately. I have been trying to stockpile some since I thought it would be even more valuable after the patch, but I am still suprised that it sells so well at that price... I was always under the impression that architects bought their ore for 2-2.5c and then sold their finished structures for 3-3.5c per unit for a bit of profit. Seems like it would be tough to make much of a profit if you are buying for 6c each Granted, I am trying to stock high quality stuff to make good harvesters, but I am still suprised.

Hi Arsenal *smile*

I seriously doubt it's architects that are buying that ore for 6 cr/u. Even with 11 BER heavies selling for 175k, that's only about 6.5 cr/u (not accounting for any losses for failures, schematics, wastedmaterials trying to get 75% experimentedore mining units, etc).

I'm in a bit of a dilemna right now with resource pricing. We went up on the prices for our experimented heavy harvesters, but we didn't go up on our housing prices. So while we're getting 5.5 to 6.5 cr/u for our heavies now, we're still only getting around 3.5 for houses. If the average price of ore continues to rise, then housing prices will also have to rise, seems the average bulk ore price on Shadowfire now is 3.0 (was 2.5 pre-patch). I can live with 3.0, but it sure cuts the profits out of building houses.

Ockoto-ack and I buy 70-80% of our resources, so our pricing is based on what we have to pay for resources. Some architects are able to mine 100% of their own materials, so they can maintain lower pricing and still be profitable. We're simply using far too many resources a day to even begin to mine our own. We keep at least 16 heavies between us on ore and still buy millions of units every week to keep up with demand. I prefer to buy as much of my resources as possible, even though the people I'm buying resources from are making more money much faster than I ever could.

Anyhow, that's my long winded answer to your quick poll lol

In a pinch I have paid 3-4 cpu. Normally 1.5-2.5 cpu depending on stats. NEVER 5+ cpu. That's ridiculous unless it's 900+ in all its stats.

If people aren't willing to buy structures for more than 3 cpu in resources used, why would architects buy ore for twice what they can sell it after crafting? Architects typically want bulk ore, not 500-2000 units. When I buy ore I want 100k stacks.

Of course, these prices are on my server, and they all vary.

I never pay more than 3cpu. Things may change with the upcoming patch and the changes with structure recipes.

I buy all the 3cpu (and less) priced ore off the bazaar I can find (less and less these days), the rest I mine myself - in fact all of my harvesters mine ore 24/7.

Dayln,

You say you wouldn't pay more than 1.25 cpu, but are you saying that people on your server are actualy selling any for that price?

We all know that ore comes in the lowest percentages of all minerals.. so why would anyone sell it that cheap. In my experience (Eclipse) it is typically one of the most expensive materials. The only exceptions being out-of-shift or extreme-stat resources.

I generally mine all of my own ore... though I do buy a few 100K now and then, but I try to place my harvesters on ore and buy metals as the price is usually lower and availability higher that way.

If it was for sale for 1.25 cpu on eclipse I woulnt harvest any of it myself.... i would stick to the easy to get steel and aluminum.

These price differences speak of a very different economy on each of the servers.

I wish I could import ore from a "Galaxy far far away"

No, I said i wouldnt pay more than that, I have never seen it offered at that either which is why I have never bought any. I am not in the resource business either as a buyer or seller so I neither know or care what they sell for. But If I were to agument my business as it is,I would not pay more than 1.25 a unit. Unless it was some kind of emergency ( I cant imagine what kind of emergency that would be )

I primarily harvest all my own. I have a friend that lets me use their lots. I also have a few other friend i pay 1cr per unit to use theoir ;ots. I have purchased occasionally through the bazaar and have paid 3cr in a pinch bet generally will not pay more than 2.5.

Never more than 3. I mine as much of my own that I can but supplement with purchases.

3 in extreme circumstances, but usually around 2. It has gotten harder to find at that price though with the player cities on the way.

I mostly mine my own stuff, but I do buy ore also at 2 to 3 cpu.. depending on the quantity. I wouldn't pay more than 3 though.. even for high UT stuff.. simply can't turn a good enough profit on structures to make it worth it.
