Thread: Do Optional Components Matter in a Crafting Station?

Looks like they added a "Functionality Rating" to some crafted items (crafting stations, and repair kits for sure). I'm 100% sure the optional components in a repair kit matter a lot, but does anyone have any evidence that they matter for a crafting station? I would think they would since the rating was added when you examine the item but I'm wondering how is this manifested? Lower rating means more failures? lower percentage improvement? etc...

I have 2 crafting stations without any optional components and the new "Functionality Rating" is a negative number.

Thanks,

Grommond

The functionality rating is definitely raised by the experimental effectiveness. I have a 95% crafting station, and several 91% crafting stations... the 91's are +12.73, and the 95 is +13 something. What that does, I'm not sure... it's probably a modification on your assembly and experimentation skills (i.e. you get 13 points added to your experimentation skill when experimenting at a 95% crafting station). I'll hook up with my master artisan friend later and pump out some high quality stations with experimented optional components and see if it makes a difference.

That would be great. I anxiously await the results...

It makes no sense to me.

I have private stations with 80% effectivness experimented, and the rating is a -14.98.
I made a structure spec tool and maxed its stats, and it has a rating of -18.67??

WTH!

Are we using golf scores now?

What quality of components are you using? I am definitely curious how you are getting crafting stations with negative attributes and what affects that bonus. Is it the quality of the resources? Optional components? Or the quality of the crafting station from which the new station was crafted. (Uh, yeah, I think that sentence made sense.)

Granted, I have only made 7 stations at this point, but I found that when making my first personal structural crafting station from a public structural crafting station location in town, I got something like a +1.8 bonus. When making the next one out of the first from my house, I ended up with a +11 point-something. Used slightly better ore on the second station, but the rest of the materials were the same. Of the other stations, I have bonuses from +4 to +10. No negatives. Each station had two similar control units and micro sensor suites. None used any droid storage compartments (because I haven't been able to find enough to make it worth my while to buy them).

I've just been wondering what governs this bonus.

I think the rating is more affected by the optional components... meaning you need them all to get a good rating. My question is does it make a difference in actual crafting.

I can say that the quality of resources used affect it but not sure about experimentation although I am sure it does.

I made my neighbor a crafting station with all the components and awesome resources. I experimented to 96% and it is 10. something. I then made me one without the droid storage compartments and not so good resource but not bad and has a 4. something. So my guess so far is definitely resources not sure about component and experimental factors.

I used 870 conductivity copper with all the components, spit out 14.5-15.5 crafting stations.

OK, so now we know how to get them reasonably rated, the question is, what effect, if any, does it have on actual crafting of items using the tool you create.

I dunno...

I think your numbers are off man, cause a station/tool experimented to 99% using some 994 conductivity copper only seems to give around a 13.5 effectiveness.

Maybe you are mis-remembering numbers.

In any case, the optional components have ZERO effect on this number. It's purely based on the Experimental Effectiveness.

I've yet to identify what (if any) effect all the optional components have.

On second thought... maybe it did reach the 14.5 mark, but I know for sure it didn't hit 15...

Oh heck, maybe I should just log in and check.

Also another architect obtained a 32.889 crafting station by using the best resources on all the components and getting them all great experimental quality.

I too made a crafting station with 80%+ expermentation on effectiveness. I used all the optional components with the electronics experimented to 80%+ effectiveness. That includes every single item in the chain, including the GP modules and Energy Distributor and Control Units used in the MSS's.

My rating on this station was -14.79.

I made another with the same copper I used for the first one but with no experimentation and no electronics and the rating was -11.17.

This really doesn't make much sense to me unless perhaps the "-" is a display artifact?

I started this project after an attempt at a heavy mineral harvester where i failed 30% of the structural mods, 2 walls and the final combine. I was using better than average resources and am only lacking construction 4 for master and I'm a fish-guy. (standard rant, this is like a near-master pistoleer missing every shot for 2 days when we fail something big like this, lots of game time invalidated with one click)
