Thread: Couple things from Fan Fest....

I made it to the second crafters forum. The devs started with a recap of the prior day's issues, namely, they know we want furniture colorization. They're working on it. Ditto crates of ore units. Ditto new schemes.

Player design houses: no way in hell. Period. Nope.
The suggestion was a contest, players use the dev's tool to create houses, submit them to SOE, and let the dev team decide. The reasons it was declined were that the tool is too complex (maybe that's why the dev's don't create new buildings?) and that they need to be in control to make sure the building design fits into the Star Wars style. Um, ok.... it's that why the suggestion was for the dev's to have final say??

Larger ore stacks won't happen, as it makes it too easy to horde supplies. Blech.

Starports, won't happen. They want there to be different needs / uses for player and NPC player cities. /agree

Someone brought up the possibility of having some of the fancy skyscrapers craftable for player cities, and in the same fashion (ie non-usable decorative structures) so that player cities look more citylike. The devs seemed *really* interested and excited over this idea.

I'll add more if I remember any, I was a little tipsy for a lot of it...

Why do people pay to play a MMORPG but not want to interact with other people?
Why, SOELA, why? Did the entire management join a cult, and at the same time perform home lobotomies?
It takes less time to look at the stickies than to ask a question and wait for sarcastic replies. So please oh PLEASE ask the same question many times. I enjoy the sarcastic remarks.

Freakin Devs are really dumb to let pass the opportunity to let the playerbase do the legwork for things like new player structures or decorations. I bet there are very very few Devs that can meet or beat hardcore SW fans in devotion. I would be willing to put money on the belief that the players can do at LEAST an equal job in churning out Quests and Art.... and we outnumber them 50k to 1.

There are World-Building programs all over the stupid place. There are NOT that hard to use. All the Devs need to do it build a simple "building block" interface to let us work out asthetic and logic problems for housing and furnitre, then input our framwork into their "complex" system and model it.

Jedi will never be a starting profession...Looted items and quest items will never be better then crafted items, this is not a loot based game...CH will return shortly...CH and BE will not be back in game...Rangers are getting their revamp next!...The stealth system will not be changing in the spy expertise...Need any more examples of things the devs said that did not hold true?

What if they gave us a simpler version of it so we could design the houses in the designs that are needed. Then the Devs could adapt them a bit, but keep the same framework. I wouldn't really care if they took credit for the whole thing, as long as it was implemented.

Anybody good at a 3D modeling program interested in making houses? You could design some in whatever program you use and send them directly to LucasArts.

I would assume that the effort/reward ratio would not be good on player designed housing. They would have to develop an entirely new system for players to create buildings with. Yes, it's doable, but a rather large pain in the #$%.

Any word about REstacking identical items? Our "missing" existing schematics?

I am delighted that they got excited about something in our profession! That's the best news for architects since launch.

Thank you much for the intel!

If you let someone tell you the truth, you will never know it.

I
had a chance to talk to a lot of crafters and take a bunch of notes
about your issues and wishes at FanFest, both in the crafting forums
and just out in the hallways between events. The architects were
out
in particular force this weekend, so I took a lot of good notes and
ideas from you guys

Since it came up more than a couple of times, I wanted to let you guys know I did put together a fix
for the OMU crate
problem yesterday, so that should be making its way down to live soon
in a patch or publish.

And furniture colorization? I really want a pot of purple flowers - like the ones inside the Theed starport.

With all due respect, the ideas are here in the forums if anyone from SOE would care to solicit the community, the ideas have been out here for some time, and yet SOE continues to design things in an ivory tower.

How nice that you got to talk to some people and it made some impressions on you that there are actual players and human beings behind these largely ignored forums. However, the issues are here, they've been here, and posts like this are less than disappointing.

It's like you folks walk past and ignorethe screaming, hungry, frustrated players and their valued input, and every once in a long while you walk up onto a podium, get to shake a hand, and say, "oh, that's a good idea," to a couple people, and walk off again. "Let them eat cake."

You're missing the big picture, as SOE does as a matter of practice.

How about listing all of the things you've heard (FEEDBACK "We're Listening") and close the loop on some of the noted items as you are able to work them into the design (CLOSURE.)

===================SIG================
Management change and credibility is expected & deserved, and really a requirement for me to desire to log in and not have my MMORPG time completely wasted. SWG's mismanagement, ongoing, lacks credibility. I have no desire to log into my toon, attempt to accomplish something, only to find out that my blue zebra, 12th level, with 20 badges, isn't going to be turned into tomorrow's 4th tier yellow monkey, and all the zebra's stuff is no longer of value. Without credibility, its just a duck hunt game that doesn't even keep score of how many shots land on a duck.

The Quote I highlighted in orange is as fine an example of how frustrating these forums are. On every forum not just this one, there are wonderful examples of player ideas that go largely unread or worse ignored by the devlopment team.

Please, developers, read and respond to idea threads on a regular basis. Eventhough we don't work for SOE dosn't mean an idea won't work for your comanies products. Far to many professions have had less than stagnant growth over the life of this game. It's time you started fixing this.

If you can't come up with good ideas of your own please take them from the forum. They are being suggested for a reason.

So does this also kill the idea I've been suggestingfor Modular Architecture?

With a modular system, the developers design the modules in the current styles (Naboo, Tatooine, Corellian/Generic) so that visualconsistencyis maintained. Then players can put the modules together in new (but still constrained) ways. This would maintain visual consistency, allow Architects to express their design creativity, increase resale value for Architects, and give consumers some choice in homes that don't look just like everybody else's.

So does this approach also somehow fail to work within developer constraints? If so, how?

oooo Darth, I am not sure if it was brought up at fanfest, at least not in the crafting forum I went to, but the chef barrels not functioning, is it possible to slip a fix in for those too?
