Thread: Couple things from Fan Fest....

Since it came up more than a couple of times, I wanted to let you guys know I did put together a fix for the OMU crate problem yesterday, so that should be making its way down to live soon in a patch or publish.

How nice that you got to talk to some people and it made some impressions on you that there are actual players and human beings behind these largely ignored forums.
I agree it can be frustrating, but there are actual people (human beings) behind the red names too. These things take a lot of time and effort and reading several thousand posts on these boards takes time away from that development and coding time.
I agree there should be a few more people culling the good ideas and other important information from the boards to pass on to the developers, but let's not be too hard on them and remember that they are people too, just like you and me.

oooo Darth, I am not sure if it was brought up at fanfest, at least not in the crafting forum I went to, but the chef barrels not functioning, is it possible to slip a fix in for those too?
It was mentioned at least three times in different forums that I heard.
They made it sound as if it shouldn't be too difficult to fix.

I had a chance to talk to a lot of crafters and take a bunch of notes about your issues and wishes at FanFest, both in the crafting forums and just out in the hallways between events. The architects were out in particular force this weekend, so I took a lot of good notes and ideas from you guys

I made it to the second crafters forum. The devs started with a recap of the prior day's issues, namely, they know we want furniture colorization. They're working on it. Ditto crates of ore units. Ditto new schemes.

Thanks for fixing this.
The people venting about us being ignored do have a point. OMU's have not crated since the game launched. Its been on our top issues lists as long as I can remember. We heard from the 2003 2004 fan fest that someone pointed it out to a dev then. I can understand if you personally didn't hear about it till now and know you can't read all the forums all the time and we appreciate you fixing it for us and thanks for dropping in to communicate to us.
BUT... you or someone else at SOE should really look into what caused the apparent communication breakdown on your side that allowed this minor issue to be ignored for nearly 2 years. Its someones responsibility at SOE to catalog these issues and bring them to the dev team. That is apparently NOT happening.

While, agree with Pawlin. I would like to express my appreciation for Darth_Platypus making efforts on our behalf. This is communication and attention to our issues. That is critically important for our profession, and I thank him for it.
I suspect that the OMU crate is a simple copy-paste or one liner as EnigmaBSc suggests. Now restacking would require an entirely new function, but that shouldn't be a whole lot harder. Player designed structures would require an entirely new application, a mini game if you will.

lol you guys, thee is hundreds of pages of posts a day, its hard to read them all let alone catch everything... you tried going to every profession forum and reading? If they could do that then they wouldnt be fixing anything just trying to read posts.
This is why you have Correspondents who post feedback threads, collect bugs, issues and ideas, and present them in a short format, isn't it?
I was at the first FF crafting forum, not the second. Cherokaa in particular went right down the architect top 5 list (kudos). We had a lot of representation. The points about the length of time these have been issues were brought up, seconded, thirded, kibbitzed, andfinally noted as heardby Darth_Platypus.
I definitely got the impression (yet again)that the devs do not spend a lot of time worrying about crafters issues in general. The way to beat this is not to rant but to lobby in a very organized way. To that end, going through the correspondents is the most effective method. Fan Fest and other personal interactions are much better at getting commitments made and kept than any other way. The organization of our issues by our correspondent was instrumental in presenting a clear agenda to the developers.
At least one producer acknowledged the lack of communication on the SOE side. I don't know exactly what the problems are, but filtering the massive quantity of player information through the correspondents will be essential to any improvements, IMO.

I can tell you for a fact that Dvnce has been hounding them on the correspondent's forum for ages.
I seem to remember that it even became a discussion about just how many lines of code it could possibly take to make OMU's crate.
It's been a while so I don't remember if any red names made an appearance, tho.

Someone brought up the possibility of having some of the fancy skyscrapers craftable for player cities, and in the same fashion (ie non-usable decorative structures) so that player cities look more citylike. The devs seemed *really* interested and excited over this idea.
I was the one who made the suggestion, but keep in mind, these would only be like gardens. For looks only. The Devs stated clearly that they would not be able to make them usable.
There was a lot of great stuff talked about. If the Devs are able to even get 10% of it in-game we will all be a lot happier.
I do hope we get more floorplans soon though. I'm getting really bored with the small selection we have.
And they don't even have a single underground homestead like the Lar's had in Ep II, III and IV. What's up with that? Like, the most iconic house in the movies, and you can't make anything similar?
Lot's of love to the Dev's, as they pulled off a great Fan Fest.

Welcome to the Architect forum Darth_Platypus. Make yourself at home (we can craft those!). There is an excellent summary of our issues here:

Please stay awhile. We get DEV lonely. I think the last visit was overa year ago.
