Thread: Final Deed in factory
Given the cost of failure, about 10% for masters (non mon cal) every 10 items will result in at least 1 failure.
Is there a problem with the final combine in the factory's with deeds? I have made several items with sub components in a factory so I know that works.
Is it just the deed cost? I mean if you are making 10 or more items in a factory it seems to me the deed cost is an acceptable price to pay to guarantee those items will be created.
The problem is you need a schematic.
If you wanna waste 30K+ in resources to make a Manufacturing Schematic for a Large House that you'll only be able to use once, go right ahead. Sounds nuts to me, unless you've got the resources in hand to makea bunchof them.
Yep, exactly my point. This WOULD be feasible AND "safe" though, if you stockpiled enough similar resources to make say 10 large houses. Then it would *probably" be worth it, but you're still losing a very expensive sale item to make the MS.
Let's add a twist to the discussion. Would anyone here "Buy" a Manufacturingschematic for a pricey item? and If so how much would you pay?
M.
It's not so much the little resources itself as it is you have to factory produce mass quantities of components to insure you have not wasted the schematic to make 1 or 2.
Personally, I have made 7 straight Heavy Harvestors without final assembly failure. A schematic is not feasible with this success rate. Worst of all I have had to change component schematics several times as the resources are scarce.
I would have to collect a weeks worth of resource without using any to be able to produce enough parts to warrant a final assembly schematic. Obviously I have thought about it.
To sell a schematic you would have to guarantee availability of resources to complete it's usefullness/value.
Or sell the resoures as well for it. The more scare a resource is or farther from the "Shift" date it is the more worthless it is. Speculation 101.
Making a schematic and then making 9 more items will net you the exact same result as trying 10 manual combines and failing one. Granted, there's a CHANCE you could make more than one final failure, but most people aren't making 10 final combines at once anyway, unless it is a small house, medium or personal harvester, or something else small. Doing anything bigger than a small house or medium harvester would really be difficult to do more than 10 with identical resources, and more trouble than simply failing the combine.
Since making the schematic in the first place is the same as failing a combine, in cost, I think unless you are making 11 or more of the items at once, it isn't even worth it, and it's not DEFINITELY worth it unless you are making 15 or more...
Because you COULD get through all 10 with no failures (more likely than getting 2 or more failures on 10), meaning you'd have NO loss manually. It's all a gamble, of course, theoretically you COULD fail all 10 combines. *shrug*
As far as the cost
1) I have all the resources required for a full set of heavy minerals. I define a full set as the number of heavy minerals I can produce on a single schematic of structural modules. I am only limited by the number of structural modules in a 1000 unit schematic to 16 heavy minerals (200,000 ore, 50,000 metal). Personally I think this limit should be increased to 10,000 to help us manufacturers out. As a side note you can produce 19 fusions on the same number of structurals, or 33 heavy natural gas.
2) Based on the number I will be making (16) I believe the schematic is worth it. I have a pretty good chance of failing on at least one. Of course there is still risk on the schematic, but that is only the 10%. If they were smaller stuctures like heavy gas I would benefit even more.
I am going to give it a try tonight, maybe I will post how I make out.
As a side note, this is also an area where achitects can work together, Even if you can only pull off say half the resources for a full set of structurals combine them with another player with like resources for larger projects.
I will say though that until factories properly pull from factory crates for ingredients there is far too much manual intervention required in the manufactore of walls.
The structural modules used to make wall modules in a factory don't have to be identical (as intended). I know this for a fact.

Actually the question was more to whether it was "possible" from the game perspective. ie has anyone tried it does it work? Are there any bugs? I presume it works because other multi component items work.
Yes it is possible. You can make a PA Hall schematic if you want.
Frankly final assemblies of structures should not even have a option to make a schematic. The first time someone accidentally clicks schematic on his PA Hall he has been working a week to build, the forums here will be flooded with their rants against the Devs.
