So if I can recap.

1) If you are making a lot of items
2) If you have a lot of resources stockpiled ( a weeks worth)
3) If you want to reduce the chance of failure across items because you are making 10+ items.
4) You do not need an XP. ie you are master

then yes, go ahead, do the final combine in the factory. That about right?

One thing definitely bears mentioning here.

When you use a schematic calling for lets say, identical generators in a heavy harvester, your first harvester will use up two of your identical generators, but the second harvester produced can use a different two identical generators. So the only really important thing to consider in deciding whether to make a schematic for a heavy harvester (or any other high skill item) is whether you have enough of the required ore, aluminum, steel, copper etc. It is only the resources that must be exact. The other items must be exactly the same for one item, but can be different (different duplicates) for next item from same schematic.

So just count up the resources necessary for the final combine. Those are the only important resources youneed to have stockpiled.

It should be easy to stockpile enough resources for large runs of almost anything if you put all your harvesting power on one thing for a week, then switch to another thing the next week, and so on.

I have stockpiled enough of certain resources to make a 100-unit-generator-schematic and a 100-unit-wall-schematic (definitely worthwhile). It would only be a bit more difficultto save resources for a 40-unit-heavy-harvester-schematic or a 20-unit-large-house-schematic. Only problem I would foresee is selling 20 of the exact same house.

Hope this helps,

Thanks for the info chocobacca, I had assumed the schematics were much more restrictive ( requiring not only the original resources but also the original sub components. )

Essentially then if I planned well I could make a huge run of heavies thereby definitely justifying the cost of the schematic.

Thank you very much again. This gives me much to consider.

Man, but 16 heavy minerals is 444320 resources. IF we could get 10 or more creds/unit resource on a final product, I would do this every time. I'd do exactly what the weaponsmiths do, "Buying 100K steel @ 3.5 creds/unit. Buying 500K ore @ 3 creds/unit..." etc, etc.

Are you positive? I've never heard of this would be damned to try it. I forsee this creating a similiar problem as the identical power core units. All your resources will be eaten and you have nothing to show for it. I was almost positive that if you made a final combine schematic it is going to ask for every single component to be identical, if this is not the case I would expect it to become the case once the devs finally get back around to us.

It's all a gamble, of course, theoretically you COULD fail all 10 combines. *shrug*

And you are exactly right JMnITup, it is a gamble , there is risk and in the game it is reasonably easy to quantify. As a result as a business owner in game I can manage that risk by using factories and building into the project my loss at the beginning rather than the end. What I am protecting myself from is not the best case, but the worst case.

Oh and there is no theory to it, factually you can fail on all of them, it is just not that probable given a 10% rate. However failing on 2 or even 3 is well within the envelope.

So far the strategy has been reasonably successful in my estimation. I made 99 walls with no losses save the schematic. I am pretty happy about that.

The wild card is that schematic. Will I fail on the first attempt? But there is also that other aspect. Hand making 16 heavies would probably give me a coronary, the 1 schematic is just 1 schematic hehe.

The structural modules used to make wall modules in a factory don't have to be identical (as intended). I know this for a fact.

Really....hmmm

Well there went one wall schematic I did not need to build.

However that effectively removes the max limit on the heavies for one set of structural modules.

Hmmm...I got some new thinking do do.

Well, you still need identical walls to come from the schematic. This only allows for your use of the wall schematic with varied resources.

This bit of information was very helpful. Thankyou!

If you sold the schematic for the final combine of the deed, wouldn't you have to include the sale of the schematics for the modules as well? And wouldn't everything have to be factory made for the deed schematic?

Sounds like a nightmare to me, you wouldn't be saving yourself any time doing it that way. I would think it'd be more of a headache to do all of that then to lose it to a crit fail

To sell a schematic you would have to guarantee availability of resources to complete it's usefullness/value.

Or sell the resoures as well for it. The more scare a resource is or farther from the "Shift" date it is the more worthless it is. Speculation 101.

This does not follow. The value can actually go up for a long time, months. Context is everything as is the customer.

The value of certain resources used in manufacturing of small resource requirement items like weapons can go up substantially over time. While a particular resource may appear reguarly (every 3-4 weeks) it may not appear in quantity or in quality.

For example while neutronium steel may appear every 3 - 4 weeks the quality will vary greatly. It may be 3 or 4 months between high quality neutronium appears. Stockpiling it for a week, then waiting a month or two will only enhance its value as you effectively corner the market.

One of the great things about SWG is that there is relatively little cost to carrying inventory of resources. 100K of resources for a single slot is a lot of stuff.

If you had a lot of lots and a lot of patience, and a lot of organizational skills, then yes, stockpiling 100k allotments of the resource for a month before making a schematicdeed for a PA or large house would be probably easier through a factory.

What I meant by this statement was that the value of the SCHEMATIC would decline as the resources to support it dissappeared or became in danger of dissappearing. Resources are always valuable. Locking yourself into a schematic is only benificial if resources are plenty. So I would never buy a schematic as was suggested much earlier in this thread.

Before factory XP was nerfed I was going to produce 50 Medium Mineral Harvesters, all by factory. I had all the materials on hand (except a couple). Given the amount of crit fails on Turbines, Structure Units, etc, it was far far more cost effective to go that route than hand building.

With a factory I was darn near guarnteed 50 Harvs in the end, with the loss of one to schematic, possibly a couple other items total in the schematic.

Then they nerfed the xp, so I made a lot by hand, crit failed about 6 out of 30 combines, not counting misc part crits.
