Thread: Reccomended retail prices

Although this is no way set in stone, a good guide for prices is 3cr per resource used in the item.
No offence, but that's a load of .xX-Censored-Xx. !
3 credits per unit is a good price to sell resources at... but it's not a good guide for buying a finished product.
Buildings, and especially city structures, should be priced not only by the amount of resources required, but also acording to skill required, as well as demand.
Since the demand for city-related structures, and even the new harvesters are high, you can expect to pay a good deal more than 3 credits per unit.
I keep things plain and simple myself... If a person isn't willing to pay my prices, I tell em to "Make it yo damn self!"... except I say it in a more polite way... but that's what I'm thinking when I say it tho.
A formula I use that has been adopted by a lot of crafters on my server that doesn't overprice or underprice and keeps it fair, and covers crafting and maintenance fees while giving a modest profit:
Item Price = #resources x (5+(difficulty/5)) [with a maximum of 5 on the difficulty modifier]
The resource part covers your resources and gives you a profit, while the rest of the formula covers your maintenance costs. It works well and is a good guide to then gauge your prices up or down from.
My character hasbecome fairlyrich selling for close to 3 cr a unit, but you set your own prices and dont listen to others telling you what to sell for.
A good harvesotr can pull resources for less than .4 cr a unit, so there is a lot of leeway in prices, profits are easy. The trick is to land a lot of sales, and to do that, you need to be competitive.
But as I said, dont listen to other architects ( including me ) as to where to set your prices, you set your prices where you feel it is right.
The only problem with that, Dalyn, is that we have Artisans out there that bring the market way down. Take for instance a small house. An average price for them is about 10k. Then we get some broke, starving Architect who wants to sell them for 3k. Now who are you going to buy from? Me, at 10k? Or him, at 3k? He won;t make any profit although he thinks he is. And the rest of the community has a right to be angry at this moron for trying to wreck their market to make a quick buck.
BTW, my stores sell products at a more realistic price, and our Architect is the best known on Correlia, and even getting orders from Tattooine and Naboo. His prices are quite higher than the starving Architect, but people know of his reputation and his products' quality, and people would rather buy his structures than Joe Blow's. He is also back-looged about two weeks now. Pretty good for someone who decided not to sell by anyone else's standards just to make a credit.
Myarchitect also sells at a realistic price, that realistec price just happes to be a lot less than many other architects sell for. But I dont tell them what price they can sell for and I am not about to have them tell me either.
Business is competitive, get over it. I dont complain about people that choose to sell for more or less than I do, that is thier business, and my business is my own. My prices and my pleased customersare why I have been contractred to build an entire city on my planet/server, all city buildings and many member houses, a4 million cr contract. I have several PA's that only purchase through me. Your way may work for you, and that is fine by me. I can also tell you that my way works for me.
I wont comnplain about your prices though, you are free to sell at whatever price you want to, and so am I.
You are right, it is obsolete, I am now pulling resource units at less than .3 a unit.
But my obsolete math is still making meover amillion cr a week so I dont feel the need to change it.
I dont care about the bazzar prices, I deal in buildings, Im not a resource seller or buyer. I do contract work ( I dont even have a vendor anymore )
I promised never to respond to you Dayln... this is the last time... this is also why I hate wal-mart
Wal-mart (your favorite company) exploits their workforce by paying them minimum wage. The average salary of a wal-mart employee is well b elow poverty level wages. (did ya know that?). So... by your standards... you're working very very hard to make the same amount that someone that works half as hard does. Amazing that you'd want to exploit your own time and resources that way. /shrug. Just thought I'd share my wal-mart analogy, since I hate wal-mart as a corporation. Not a bad place to find inexpensive things to buy. But I hate what they do to the people that work for them. Horrible company in that aspect.
Wal Mart is not my favorite company, they are just a good example when talking about sales, personally I hope Wal Mart falls on its behind.
The only person that works for me is me. The difference between me and you is I know exactly WHO I work for. I work for my customers. I provide them with good products at low prices.
Your way may work, and that is fine with me, my way also works. There is no argument you can make that say I am doing bad business while making money at the rate I am making it in game.
I never said you did bad business.... not once. You do make money, I'm sure. But you work a LOT harder for your money that say, I do. I don't buy all my resources either. In fact... I haven't bought resources in over a month. But I also know what my time is worth to me. I don't want to spend 100% of my little playtime crafting for folks. Even with my higher pricing I can't get away from it though. I do what I can for my customers. I have many MANY loyal customers and I cater to multiple PAs as well.
You may do good business. But, as a capitalist, I'm sure you could do better business. /shrug.
In addition, it is my opinion that you, me and some of the other more vocal folks on this boards STOP talking about why our prices are better than yours or someone elses. Everyone who reads this board knows about your pricing Dayln. I think it's time to give it a rest and maybe lay off the preaching. It is my opinion it's become trollish in nature and no longer constructive.
Wal-Mart LOL. I make a good effort NOT to shop there. My company has a contract with them, and I despise the way they treat us and their own employees. Their higher-ups feel they are kings on a throne, and everyone else must kneel (literally) to their every command.
Dalyn, I'm not disagreeing with you, just offering you an alternative. It's a game yes. but compared to real-life, it's a "show me the money" world out there. And most people knock up their prices if they know they can sell it at that. Look at gasoline prices the last 10 years. As far as that player city goes, my Architect is working on something similiar.....for close to 10 million without the houses.
