Thread: Building construction timers....
Why?
I can't see any reason to do that...
It would "hurt" me if I have to wait 5 or 10 minutes for no good reason.

So jedi dont keep a small house in their pocket.....just in case. Because it does "hurt" when your mark pulls a quaker instant-house (Just add water!!!)out of his a$$ and throws it down and hides in it. So again I ask, how does waiting ....to hell with 5 minutes, THREE minutes, "hurt" you?
I'm not speaking for Pawlin, but for myself; some of my opinions might by chance concur with his.
Waiting until a house is finished "constructing" is an unnecessary delay in the game. While there is some fictional premise to the notion, playability for most purposes would suffer. In some cases, multiple players would be inconvenienced, and additional exploits might become possible. The existence of such a construction delay forresidential structures also begs the question of whether a similar delay should exist for other kinds of deed activations, such as factories, harvesters, vehicles, droids, ships, and city buildings.
I sense that the issue is a Bounty Hunter versus Jedi issue, and that you are a Bounty Hunter annoyed by the unfair advantage that Jedi have ininfringing uponyour right to complete your missions. I suggest that there are other means by which this can be implemented than by inconveniencing uninvolved players.
Saego, Wanderhome
I don't care if the Jedi drives an RV and keeps it parked where he can always run right into it for escape.
It's only 10 minutes, right?

It's a problem with house TEF types. Jedi (or anyone else) in combatshouldn't be able to run into ANY house, due to the combat thingy that prevents folks in combat from running into a house. It seems to be pretty buggy at the moment. Go figure.

You should kill the Jedi faster and dodn't let them get away in the first place.
Wait, those were supposed to be prawns.
The insta build does bug me a little, in it's unrealism. (realism. space ships. droids that don't suffer fatal exception errors) And a 2 minute delay wouldn't bug me much. I tend to place several harvs at a time, so by the time I've managed to find a clear flat spot not in city boundaries not to close to an NPC not in the middle of a lake that first one would have long been constructed....
And I miss the 4 minute shuttle delay. Really. I used to spend the time drilling holes in the ticket collector's head and sticking flowers in it, popping into the city mall for a second, or starting up a song macro
Oh my name it is Sam Hall it is Sam Hall
Oh my name it is Sam Hall it is Sam Hall
Oh my name it is Sam Hall
And I hate you one and all
You're a bunch of muckers all
Damn your eyes, damn your eyes
(fun to sing that one at work too...)
(and lithium is annoying with html. I WANT A PICTURE OF A NOTE UP THERE!)

Im just wondering what you architects (since you make the buildings) though about putting a 5 to 10 minute timer on a newly constructed house. What I mean is the red ribbon effect would go up and stay up for 5 to 10 minutes after you "drop" a house instead of happening instantly. Dont think this would hurt anyone, its only 10 minutes right
A ten minute timer or even a 3 minute timer would inconvenience a large portion of the player base just to help out one small portion, how about instead of having a timer actually fix it so that if you are in combat you cannot place a house? seems fare to me.

This last one seems pretty decent. If I can't call a droid or a swoop when I'm in combat, I should probably be unable to build a house. This seems to me the simplest solution.
To be fair, the idea that we should wait for construction a bit does not seem unreasonable. Indeed, the architects in this forum need to do a better job welcoming new ideas... its not like anything that gets said here gets any developer attention, right. This is the place where ideas come to die, so why not have a lively discussion? However, I can see no compelling reason to make people wait other than this weirdness about Jedi running from a fight more often than not. This problem can be traced to other failing game mechanics and not to this particular item.
I for one, hope bounty hunters are sucessful in re-balancing the game in thier favor (if it is indeed unbalanced; I dont fight, so I dont know). I simply ask that this profession not be the plaything for what is becomming increasingly clear are the only two worthwhile professions.

Agree.

How long is unreasonable? We already wait like half a minute. I think 5 or 10 minutes is pretty long and I do consider that unreasonable particularly if theres no good goal. If the goal is nothing more than to nerf someone elses combat oponent cause they are tired of them running away.

Right. BUT I don't think as a group that we are unwelcoming of new ideas though. WE might disagree with them or point out why we think something is never going to be implemented by SOE or we might be unresponsive or somewhat unwelcoming seeming if the idea has been presented 17 times before and is not really new.
THIS idea was presented as a nerf with no goal in mind.I'm not going to welcome solutions that don't even cite a problem particularly if they nerf everyone.
However, I can see no compelling reason to make people wait other than this weirdness about Jedi running from a fight more often than not. This problem can be traced to other failing game mechanics and not to this particular item.
Agreed

Agreed. Like I said, we're not pawns. But to be honest I will be less 'welcoming' of any 'idea' that I see as an obvious attempt at Jedi or BH to nerf each other or resolve combat specific game design problems only at the expense of others.
