Thread: Housing/Item Storage: Just an idea I had, bump if you think its worthwhile

So, I was thinking (like that doesn't get me in trouble most of the time!)

I love the style of the Naboo medium house, but lets face it - 200 items just is NOT enough to decorate it properly. Sure, I could go to a Naboo large, but I hate the layout, and realistically, 400 items doesn't do IT justice either. I'm a self-acknowledged pack-rat, to be true.

I need more space. Period, end of statement. Sure, I've got 10 lots, and I could toss down 10 Naboo small round houses to store everything in, but that completely misses the point - I want ONE house, one home, decorated to the hilt. Having 10 houses, just to store loot, isn't my goal.

So, what if the devs did something like this:

Naboo small round - 1 lot - 100 items

Other small houses - 2 lots - 200 items

Mediums -2 lots - 200 items

Larges - 4 lots - 400 items

PA Hall - 4 lots - 400 items

Ok, that's what it is now, more or less - but here's the kicker. Give us an option on the structure management terminal to INCREASE the lot count (up to your maximum remaining available lots) and get an additional 100 items of item storage per lot space allocated to the structure. Sure, increase the maintenance fee appropriately - maybe 15cr/hour per lot space allocated, just as if you had multiple houses dropped on the same spot.

The people could pick the style of house that they like the best, and decorate it to their heart's content. And maybe then people wouldn't have so many storage factories scattered around the countryside - you could consolidate everything you own down to 1 structure if you so choose.

Then, if in the future, SOE wants to give us a gift and up the item limits, all they have to do is increase the "items per lot" instead of touching every house style. The same could be done for POB ships. Heck, I'd gladly burn all 10 lots to have one nicely decorated house and a tricked-out Decimator!!

Thoughts?

Of couse, architects will need to be involved, since what you are doing from an RP viewis expanding your house.

Also, people will buy less houses, so it's only fair to give them a part in this.

In order to increase the amount of lots an architect has to bring some resources to perform the expansion of your house, or architects could get a schematic for a house-extension kit? This way they can charge for the expansion, to make up for the lost income...

aye its a good idea, especially if you could do it with a sososuub 90 item limit doesnt do it any justice

I've got no problem with that.

Someone reminded me about Architects needing to be involved with this, since you'd all lose out of additional housing sales. So, they'd need to add some kind of craftable "Expansion Wing" that you'd sell to us, and would get used up during the process.

Interesting idea, but it would be easier to just have another schematic for a different house that just takes up more lots and gives you the extra space.

I agreed without considering Architects.

Their points are totally valid. Involve them in some way and it totally rocks as an idea.

Dunno, I kinda like the "dynamic-ness" of being able to grow and shrink the storage in the house at will

But...

Maybe if lot size / item limit was an option during the crafting stage? Then you could build, say, a Naboo Medium with a6 lot / 600 item limit, as a specialty item. Perhaps an optional crafted component during deed contruction?

Charge 3x your normal price for a medium house, and its win/win.

It would be easier to code a new structure than to code a system that allows you to manipulate an existing structure. Speaking of which, they should have just made every lot give 100 items, so these 400 item guild halls. Bleh.

What I would really like to see is players getting to store 1000 items (the equivalent of what you can store with 10 factories, highest possible storage available in structures). It wouldn't matter how many items per house/lot, but you could only have 1000 items stored, spread over all your lots.

This way, you can have one (or more ) well-decorated house, with storage room to spare! Then being able to use your other lots for harvesters andfactories (yes, the input/output hopper would take up some of your storage, but you wouldn't feel like you had to store your other items in factories to save on lot space.)

Personally,I HATE having to run out to one of my two clothing-storage houses just to change my clothes. (Yes, that may mean I own too many clothes, but that's not my point ) Being able to store them all in ONE house would be so useful.

And this wouldn't necessarily hurt the architects' business, since many people would fill up their extra lots with the harvesters or factories that they don't currently have the lots for, due to needing so many small storage houses. And harvesters/factories are generally higher-ticket items than small houses anyway.
