Thread: Weapon/armor of choice for crafters pre/post CU ???

I'm gonna post this in a couple crafting forums, and was looking for some opinions/feedback:

I'm a master arch/artisan running around w/ a sliced FWG5 & a set of marbari armor. However, I've noticed that some of the mobs are getting stronger? I got2shot-incapped just South of Bestine the other day by some gunrunners as I was flying by on my swoop. What's the deal-io ???

Which brings me to my question(s):

What are you guys running around in? Also, if I'm reading correctly, we won't be able to wear armor after the CU unless we're at least a Novice in a combat profession?

I currently have Novice Pistoleer, but would carbineer be better for aggro close encounters? Which weapon would you recommend?

Sometimes it seems like SOE really doesn't give any love to us crafters...

I run around in full comp when I go out lol.. but I guess I wont be able to do that anymore.. I have no combat skills and it will be bothersome to end up in the cloner all the time lol

Really hard to tell. I tested the CU til they went to the new server.A 14 hour download kinda soured me, plus it bombed out twice while I was trying to download it. It all depends on your skill set and what you need and what you are willing to give up. Right now, I could drop the organic chemistry line, switch that to ranged combat and keep my novice pistoleer. Or I could drop it altogether and put stuff in Merchant. I really think it depends on how many SP you have to spare. But in my CU testing time, the MOBs went from ridiculous damage to more in line with what they do now. So it could very well be that the best tactic is to give aggros a wide berth and accept the occasional death as part of business. The good side is that since we can't wear armor, there really isn't a lot to worry about decaying.

Right now I have two boxes in Pistoleer and I wear a composite chest plate only. I either use a DX2, FWG5 or a Modified Republic blaster (I am a WS). My problem with Carbineer was always that specials drained the action pool too much. Pistoleer was much easier to control.

Afterwards, who knows? Since I remember doing harvester runs before vehicles, here is a possible template. Pistol 4, Exploration 4, novice medic. That gives you Maskscent so you can slip by most aggro critters. Humanoids will still shoot, but there is nothing you can do about that. Get some BE engineered clothing to add to your Camoflauge/MaskScent.

From what I read, if you hit pistol 4, you can use any weapon in the same class in the rifle or carbine line - you just won't be as proficient. At least that way you can test whatworks best and readjust accordingly. Most of all, I just expect that things will be difficult for a while but after a couple of weeks we'll figure out a good way to deal with it.

BTW, I don't think it's SOE that doesn't like crafters, it's this stinking dev team. It looks a lot like EQ2. I loved that game but in the first patch they neutered crafting so much that I quit the game, deleted my characters, removed the game from my hard drive and threw it it the trash about a day and a half after the first big patch, Loot drops were routinely better than anything we could craft. I only hope that ROTW doesn't start to bring that into the game with the "quest driven missions". If I start to see armor quests for all classes, I'll know we're all sunk.

pre CU i dont wear armor at all or a mini comp suit (helm, boots, gloves, and helm) or as much as i can wear and a PSG almost all the time. Im also a novice carbineer so i got little problems with agros.

Post CU all you can wear is a PSG wich only protects against ranged attacks. To wear armor you need to get a novice elite profession to be certed to wear armor of any kind.

Currently

Mecinia: Uses a PSG, and will continue after the CU. Has been known to hire escorts even prior to the CU ( She's Master Artisan, Master Chef, Master Merchant, Entertainer 0 2 3 2, Novice Shipwright, Politician 2 1 2 2, RSF Pilot 3 3 3 3 )

Mecinea: Uses Ubese Jacket, Ubese Boots ( and that's it ), she's a BE so she'll get to keep the use of Ubese ( why BE gets to have it when no other crafter does doesn't make since to me......they have mask scent and usually that's enough for me ) ( She is a BE/CH/Scout/Rifleman...but not master of any )

Yovi: Uses Chitin armor, at her current level she won't be able to use it post CU, she needs to work up to something if I had time beforehand. ( Scout/Marksman right now )

Enoorea: Switches between Stormtrooper and Composite. Stormtrooper is battle armor so she'll have the cert for it afterwards ( currently MCarbineer, BH 3 4 0 0, Commando 4 0 0 0, MMarksman, Scout 4 0 0 0,)

Bienurdau: Armor, What's that? To poor to even get a PSG she just has to make do, I stay mostly in cities and seldom leave them. ( ID, Tailor not master of either yet )

Swoops won't help once CU hits. Creatures (and NPCs) do damage based upon level difference.

For example, I got hit by a bocatt for 8000 pts of damage.

Yesterday I was driving my swoopwhileskirting a syck nest (they were level 11) and one aggroed on me (I was level 5). I was hit one time for 897 pts of damage. My health was 1000 so I had a little left over and got away.

Had I been a pure crafter (level 1) character, it would have been well over 1000 pts and instant incapped situation.

Me too..Normally I just use my droid, my FWG and no buffs or armor. I have no idea what I can even *use* after the CU. Meh.
