Thread: Zarcath one more outcry

The issue at hand is database storage. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the server have a limited capacity? If homes contained too many items the server would suffer. The dev's previously stated that as they work out the database they will increase the the capacity of larger homes. A medium home uses 2 lots as does the small, which going by 75 items per lot makes it equal to a small house except it uses more resources and has a higher maitenance fee.

Well said Zeonz! I understand there HAVE to be some limits but the limits currently in place are to tight for the number of items we are REQUIRED to collect. If you want me to keep less stuff then simplify the variety of resources in the game. There are simply too many varieties of leathery hide on any single planet. And when you consider the varieties on all the planets it becomes impossible to maintain a reasonable inventory.

I just built myself a Medium Naboo house. I LOVE that house it looks great. But it also looks empty. I have no inventory space for furnature! Sure I can keep all my crafting stuff in my small house and then decorate my new house. But then the new house is useless. it is simply for decoration. I would "live" in the house with all my crafting tools.

I have to tell you IMHO this sucks!

I know you've probably been inundated by this request, but I have to voice my opinions and suggestions.
Just in case you're keeping a tally or something, please add my name to this list!

Why wouldn't they make the number larger?

I currently own a Medium Naboo house because it's the only floorplan that I like, atm.

But I can't put more than 150 items in it?

So, my choice is basically down to this (yes I filled it up the day I placed it):
I can either decorate the house, or I can use it to help hold all my crafting required items, tools, deeds, factory crates, and resources.

This is absolutely ridiculous!

Those in charge of every game I've ever played prior to this one kept one rule sacred:
Your idea of entertaining gameplay is yours and yours alone. If someone knowingly and repeatedly performs an action that downgrades the entertainment value of your game, that is considered harrassment.

So, stop harrassing me, Devs!!!

Look, here's my point... For me, most of the fun I get out of MMORPGs like this has to do with setting myself up so that I can craft anything I want to use or sell. Making LOADS of cash and hoarding stockpiles of items is my fun!

Especially in this game! Holo said it himself! He said he looks for people to start saving back high quality resources to sell at a later date when they become scarce. Thus, driving the price up.

I really would like the opportunity to do that and *shocker here* still have the chance to decorate my house to a decent level! You guys (devs) do remember all the requirements you created for architects to actually craft items, right? And you guys (the devs again) do remember this system you created where resources change types every three-four days so that I may have 50k units of ore after one week, but you've forced me to put them in three different stacks because they are not exactly the same?
I mean, come on...150 item maximum in a house that big?

My suggestion for item count limits:

Smalls =200 items
Medium =400 items
Large =600 items
Guild Halls =600 items (large houses and guild halls should be the same so as not to encourage everyone to get a guild hall just because it's the best for storage)

Heck, those numbers may not even be enough in the long run... But then I guess I'll just be forced to have a decorated, vendors house as well as a crafting house both right next to a storage house which should probably be far enough away from them so that I can keep a rare items house. Wow! Willya look at that, all my lots are gone. BAH I say, BAH!

I understand that most of the reasoning behind the numbers they have now is more likely due to the amount of storage space required on their servers. But y'know what?
I don't really give a **edit** what the requirements are. If it ain't budgeted now... put it in the budget for next year so that you can get another terrabyte or two to store stuff.

Other than that, why do you guys (devs) even care about what I decide I want to keep in my house? I enjoy hoarding resources, deeds, rare items, etc. And I enjoy having a house that looks cool when I walk into it. Can't we have the best of both worlds here?

Well, I had to say it, just hope you keep that item on the list for the weeks to come.

I'm done now, and I'll move back to the quiet corner. =p

Vshbaa,

Yeah, you're right and I do understand that a lot of the problem is due to real world limitations on servers, storage space, and bandwidth necessities. However, there are any number of programming changes that can be made to allow player-housing the opportunity to hold more items.

For instance, assume they had enough physical hard drive space on the server devoted to in-house item storage. Even if loading all those items started lagging people horribly, they could put in a patch that actually keeps the items within a house from loading on the player's local computer until the player actually steps foot inside the house.

That's one rule I've watched go into effect on Raph's other baby, UO.

Anyway, I wanted you to know that I'm not unreasonable. That I do understand these kind of changes may not even be possible until they have the money, the power, the connection speed, or whatever. But it does need addressing and that was my main desire here. Just to make sure that the issue stays on the list until I see changes affect my house(s) in-game.

=)

Thanks for the responses, too. It's nice to know that I'm not insane.

1 small = 150 items X 384cr/day

1 Medium = 150 items X 816cr/day

1 Large = 250 items X 1200cr/day

2 small = 300 items X 768cr/day

I have seen an Idea pop up on the artisan boards a few times. Smelting. I have to be honest I haven't read the suggestions (I think they want to improve resource quality somehow). My suggestion is opposite of that, use smelting to combine resources into a generic type that has some low general defaults or even take the values of the lowest resource. Anyway this would allow us to combine are 5 stacks of various ore into one stack of generic ore. would increase production\practice sessions and decrease both storage in house and on the database.

From what I have heard, the main issue with items is the database.

And it also appears that you are allowed 75 items per lot used.

Well, that is unfortunate. Understandable, but unfortunate all the same.

I really would like to see medium houses take up 4 lots then, personally.
If, in fact, they do measure stored items by calculating 75 items per lot used, it only makes sense that a quick-fix for this issue would be to put medium houses up to the 4-lot level that it seems they should be at. Anyway, I'll let this dog lie now and maybe revisit it later in the year if we've seen nothing more after a time.

Thanks again.

=)

75 items per lot, yes.

But then comes the kickers:

Maximum of 250 items

and Medium and small use the same number of lots = same storage capacity

I agree with the original poster tho. 75 items per lot is not nearly enough. If the have database problems, fix the database don't nerf around a fix so badly that the game becomes unplayable.

Lets just hope if they do decide to do this they give us ample warning so I don't lose 2 of my large harvesters that are taking up lot 9 and 10.
