Thread: Architect Most Boring Profession?

Hello,

A friend of mine is master architect and recently got married so he let me have his account details to do stuff for the guild while he was away. I've used the character for a few days and... well it's Rant Time and yeah I'm going to list stuff that's obvious/already know to me/everyone.

Now I had a go at making houses and some furniture for guild buildings and I have to say this has to be one of the most boring professions in the game

I could have quite easily forgiven the resource quality issue (ie resource quality means nothing for furniture & housing) if you could have specified the colours of stuff. And on the furniture theres not even an option of styles available unless you look at the one that makes a fountain into a fire . Theres like 3 types of bookcases: white, brown and yucky grey. The "cool" furniture is faction bought

The house choices are so boringly limited. Always all the same colours too. Quite frankly in the few days I messed around with the profession I sat there and thought: "is this is?"; I'm sure it's not all that bad and my view is that of an outsider but other than being able to name containers/cupboards I can't see why any Architect would exist as someone's main character (sorry not trying to upset anyone here).

I guess you only get your crafting kicks out of making good factorys/harvesters/crafting stations? I just feel sad for the furniture and housing side of things.

Now instead of ending the rant here I thought I'd list a few thing that I think would actually make the profession more fun & cool:

  • GCW bases need to be constructed by an Architect. Players buy the schematic from the Recruiter. This would go some way to help the GCW issues too.

  • Faction Furniture is bought as a schematic also, requiring an Architect to construct it.

  • Quality of resources used in a house should effect it's maintenance (just a thought - don't go mad )

  • Funiture can be "coloured", with different textures available on certain schematics.

  • More furniture models, some more tables would be good.

  • More looted furniture schematics etc

  • Furniture paint kits - just like Vehicle Customisation kits but, you guessed it, for furniture. Allows customers to paint existing furniture.

  • More house models, there seriously needs to be some more choice happening in this department.

  • House colouring, the outside of the house should have a palette of colours and/or textures available during the construction process

  • House Exterior Paint Kit - allows customers to change the exterior colour/texture of their house after it's been placed.

  • House Internal Paint Kit - allows customers to change specific wall/floor/ceiling or room colours.

Some of this stuff I sure has been mentioned/covered before

Well that's enough from "the n00b who just peeked in behind the looking glass". Best of luck to everyone, hope SOE give you guys some lovin' soon

If you think this prof is boring then you should do something else. We can't make it unboring for you. Each to their own.

For any crafter once you've made an item once or twicethen making it 1000 more times again isn't an exciting experience. But once a master swordsman knocks down one lair knocking down 10000 more really isn't what I'd call a thrill.

As far as variety of items to make, we've got as much or more schematics for finished itemsavailable as most elite crafters.

Formany of us much of the fun is in the act of running the business. You start from scratch then build it up and establish a name and then compete head to head with other crafters on a daily basis. If you were handed a complete master architect then you missed the fun and accomplishment of building up the character.

Well said, Pawlin. It isn't about the crafting, necessarily, it's about the business. It's about the person starting a new city asking you if you would build all of their starting buildings. It's about running that order to an Interior Designer who is taking on a big design job. It's about knowing that the person who just bought from you today will do so again tomorrow or next week because you back your product with customer service. I was very recently seriously considering dropping architect and going all combat, but fortunately for me some old customers made some new referrals to my shop that have resulted in lots of new revenue and a renewed interest in the business, as well as two very lucrative design jobs. So, as far as interestinig crafting profession...not really. As an interesting and rewarding business, certainly, at least for me.

- I support the imrovement of the following: Kashyyyk, Squad Leader, Commando, Bothans, Sullustans, Entertainers, the Jedi system, The language system, the GCW, the interverence of Hutts, Felucia (new), Dug (new), Geisha, Model (new) and more. - You can too!
-I suport the death of Hoth ideas.
- My alpha-character is Caihakteatka Lightingmist (Eclipse)- Entertainer Profesions, Master Muse (striving for Grand Master)

On the surface, I can see where you would find it very boring, the actual architect part of it is kinda boring . But, there is lots more to it as others have stated. It is much more of a social tree then probably almost any of the others minus tailoring and probably some of the entertainer lines. Can also be the most involved as people may want things named differently, have you come to their house and help them or just plain decorate for them etc etc.

I will echo what the others said. And oddly enough, I never really thought of it this way before... but yes, Architect seems to be more about running the business than the crafting. Maybe its the dimensions of our product (big house dude!) or the foundation-level effect we have on the game (no harvs=no resources=no game). But Architect certainly is different that the others. To each his own I guess.

Jedi will never be a starting profession...Looted items and quest items will never be better then crafted items, this is not a loot based game...CH will return shortly...CH and BE will not be back in game...Rangers are getting their revamp next!...The stealth system will not be changing in the spy expertise...Need any more examples of things the devs said that did not hold true?

I'm Master Archi and Master Politician. Archi makes be efficient at my mayor job, plus I love decorating my city and being able to do that at will. Archi is also a very important profession as it keeps everything else going. My guild alone keeps me busy with orders. I don't find it fun to make the items necessarily, but by being useful and making a needed product. I'm also an interior decorator, which I couldnt possible do without being an archi. Oh and I'm definitely a business woman

I'm in the game for the social aspect. If all that was available was combat professions I'd have quit over a year ago. Killing lairs IMO is far more boring than crafting.

For me it's the business end. The feeling of seeing all those mails when you log on and seeing what sold. And I love having a nicely set up shop. I enjoy creating so the crafting is fun to a point but I do agree that we should be able to choose colors and such. As posted above though setting the business up and growing it and then competing with others is whats most enjoyable I think. I like it quite a lot.

Cheers for the reply guys Kinda expected to get seriously flamed but none of you did

My main character is a Jedi and my alt is a Master Droid Engineer and Master Shipwright. With those two professions it's much more important to consider the quality of your work (well not so much DE anymore). I have to get the very best resources to make, say, an Engine: if I don't it'll come out with rubbish stats an no one will buy it. I take great pride in making something good and that's half the fun for me - sitting there experimenting trying to get stats as high as possible: it's something made by me and not just a carbon-copy.

But when I had a go with my m8's architect there was no such interaction with the final product, no way to slightly affect the finished product (other than it's name). I could shove any old resources in and get the samething to pop out the other end I know factories/harvestors are different. I hear you guys are likely to be getting furniture colouring put in soon and I think that will help a lot. I hope you get textures to select as well as that would be brillant

You guys are right though, my view is very subjective and I've only really scratched the surface of Architect. Just be glad you're not a MDE

BTW I love those custom furniture sets people do, like those huge fireplaces and such - you guys make me jealous! I love looking at those things they're a real work of art

/agree

It is definitely the social side of the game for me too. Many times I sit at my crafting station...craft an item...dozen or so tells...craft an item...dozen more tells...and so on. I can't count the number of times I have accidentally named a deed "/reply Hi"

I like being known as a leading architect. There's not as much competition, so easier to distinguish yourself.
