Thread: Recent spree of bans.

Hey all.

I was wondering if any of you have had problems (or friends that have had problems) with getting banned? I just had a friend email me that she got banned, and she can't think of any realistic reason for that, aside from the fact she sold a bag for 1.3M from her vendor (10 fusions at 130K each).

This got me thinking. If the people that hand out these little 'banned' flags get some sort of alert email for everyone that's transferred over 1M in one go, then a lot of architects might get totally ****ed over.

So I was wondering: Anyone else see this?

Mad.

ps. I might be in for a nice one as well then, with my 7M or so in the last week. And I'm not even an architect anymore, just work from the schematics I made.

I cannot imagine how she could have got banned for a sale from her vendor, that is buyer's risk if it is in a bag, they cannot ban the seller for it, and why would they? the seller has done nothing wrong. It has to be something else.

One of the most prominent mayor/guild leader/businesspeople on Kettemoor got banned, in addition to at least half a dozen other innocent and respectable folks. The Developers don't seem to have taken any consideration of guild or innocence into these things. We had a guy tipping a million credits to people who passed by him in the starport in Coronet. Turns out he was duping.

"You have received 1000000 bank credits from RandomPerson"

Now what do you do? You're guilty too.

Report them? That's what Jergo did.
Contact a CSR? That's what Jergo did.
Tip the money back? That's what Jergo did.

AND JERGO GOT BANNED FOR IT. You could be next.

The point being she received a lot of money at once I'd guess. Possibly from someone under investigation. Hell. I don't know The only thing I know is that she has absolutely no clue why she's banned, and they tell her she should've gotten an email about it that she never got.

So she's now taking it up with the swgsupport email address. I'll keep you lot informed.

Mad.

ps. As I inferred earlier, I wouldn't be at all surprised if everyone with money transfers over 1 million in the last week is going to have problems.

All transactions over 500k are flagged...all transactions over 1 million are red flagged...its been this way since launch, though they never enforced the investigation part of it. Your friend should not have been banned, nor anyone being randomly tipped by a stranger, i.e. ninja banning....they tip you duped credits you get banned for it...sad.

Yes, I see now, it is all over the tech support boards. Looks like flagged credits, assumed to be duped (or maybe even known to be duped). If you receive them, even through an honest transaction or you part (i.e. vendor sales) then you risk being banned. You are unwittingly laundering duped credits and are guilty unless proven innocent !

It is a problem telling who is who =/ But, if you are tipped a few million credits by a duper at a startport and are concerned it is a duper trying to get you in trouble...

NewJedi the musician correspondant posted this in a thread asking similar questions:

--------------

The CSRs have released a knew Knowledge Base entry to deal with this issue:

soe13430

Q: What should I do if I received duped credits?

A: Thank you for sharing your concerns regarding this matter with us. If you were not directly involved with the credit duping or the trafficking of duplicated credits then no action will be taken on your account. If you have received an amount of credits that you believe to be of a duped origin, please tip these credits in game to SOE-Collector. If you do this via bank transfer, you should subtract the 5% bank fees from the credits you are returning to avoid cost to yourself. The amount of the fees is 50,000 credits for every million that you are transferring.

----------------

So, it isn't the perfect solution, but if you feel you have be shoved a bag full of duped credits, you haveplace to hand it off to.

They could have bloody well said that IN THE RELEASE NOTES YOU SEE DURING LOG-IN!!!!!!!

Your friend tried to do the right thing by returning it, but without knowing the correct thing to do, it made it look like she was participating in a plot to confuse where the money came from by running it through multiple transfers.

Until this idiocy stops, I'm not pricing anything over 500k. If it's a large order, I'll put it in multiple bags.

And if you don't get tipped, but instead someone buys something for over 1M from your vendor, you're quite simply screwed it seems like.

10 fusions in a bag is not a valid order anymore then. Stupid, really.

I'd imagine Archis and Armoursmiths are getting the long end of the stick in this one, seeing as they generally have high cost transfers.. Oh well.

Wow. This is harsh treatment by the powers that be. As an architect, I buy and sell large orders of things all the time. I guess I'll have to go back to splitting up orders into multiple bags (even more challenging with the nerf comming up) and not buying large amounts of loot from people anymore.

There goes the auction forum for 50% or more if it's business.
