Thread: Resource Shifts
Can anyone explain the Resource Shifts to me please. Also can you think of why Flurry would not have some of the resources that many of the other servers have already?
Thank you in advance for your commits

In Beta, Resource Shiftscame inone of two flavors:
1. Certain resources would run out over time, typically the ones that were being mined the most heavily, such as Ore. Then at some point, all the resources would be reset and each planet would get all new resources.
2. Few if any resources would run out, and one day all resources would be shiftedto new types.
On my server (Radiant), there was apparently a bug that gave us no resource shift for the first three weeks of the game. (Now that was a bug I could live with...) We then got a resource shift, and I read from several sources that it would then change every 5-8 days. But we're now on our 12th day with no resource shift.
What kinds of shifts are other servers getting?

The radioactive material disappearing... I personally call this a design bug.
but really, it is the intended implementation of the resource system... they just suddenly disappear, and occasionally new ones appear... they do this with no warning, so if you don't check every day, you are more than likely going to have harvesters sitting eatting credits and doing absolutely nothing.
My harvesters are all in one general area, and it still takes me about 30 minutes to an hour to do routine maintenance on them, which usually involves going to them, finding them doing nothing, paying them 3000 credits, taking the 40 units that were harvester before that resource disappeared just after I left, and setting them to some new material is currently at 10% concentration and will disappear in an hour (not that the concentration has ANYTHING to do with the rate it disappears, this just displays my luck... double-bad.
)
If you have harvesters scattered across a planet, or on multiple planets... I pity you. ![]()
Fusion reactors... harvest radioactive minerals... of course, I have a whole farm of these, and my planet never had radioactive minerals ever since I finished the reactors... I used solar gens for a while, and then all the sun went away, I guess.
so now I am just using disposable wind gens which hardly power my harvesters.
*sigh* I love the resource system... really, I do.
No, actually... I don't. Sorry.

I understand now thanks. On the other question, do you know why Flurry don't have some of the higher types of minerals? Best weapons we have right now are Laser Rifles. If there are any higher no one is telling and all the smiths say theres not because Flurry don't have the minerals yet. Don't add up since so many other servers are talking about the higher weapons they are putting out. Any clue?

The available resources are random... however, there were some rules laid out earlier that are SUPPOSED to be in effect, but they don't cover EVERY material required for all items.
Basically, every galaxy has a core or 60-70 minerals (they didn't detail the other types like gas, chemicals, etc) that can exist. Each planet has its own pool, which has some quantity in it when it first spawns, and every resource extracted draws from this pool. Once that resource is gone, it disappears from the planet, to be later replaced by some other resource. HOWEVER, at release, they added a timer I believe, so that even if the entire planet pool is used up, the resource would stay around for at least some set amount of time... and, even if the resource pool WASN'T used up, it would still evaporate after some maximum time.
There were a couple formulas that were guaranteed... they were of a format like: 8 of the 10 planets will always have at least one type of carbonate ore, and they COULD have up to 4 types.
Some of the more rare metals specificied that only 1 or 2 of the 10 planets would have it at one time. I don't know that all materials covered by items are always available, but it could be that your galaxy is just unlucky, or there could be some resource bug. *shrug* if you search, you can probably find the post about how resources are supposed to exist.
The resource shifts wouldn't be to bad if they shifted once every 2-3 weeks instead. At least then there wouldn't require1 daya week to replanting and scouting new sites. I'd like toPLAY the game a little instead of having toWORK a nine to five job in it. Don't get me wrong maintaining harvesters and such is part of the fun but I have to draw the line at 1 day a week I must relocate because otherwise I don't have the resources to make things. At 5cr/unit the majority of the miners want to sell large quantities of ore an Architect will go hungry in no time.
I'm curious, how many of you have had the regular resource shifts on time?
I ask because I am coming from Lowca, where all of our shifts have been forced. We had the same resources for a month, and then a forced shift, and then another forced shift after that, 12 hours later. Since that last forced shift, we've had no changes, and it's been about three weeks. Radiant has also had similar problems, though fortunately both servers are being worked on. I'm wondering how many other servers are having an array of shift-related issues.
So, have any of you had regular shifts every 5 - 8 days? Or even every two weeks? Or every other day?
We've yet to have a super mind-blowing resource shift, outside of the first couple of weeks. So far, I've been on a 4 day cycle...I set down my Harvesters on the newest, useful resource for 4 days, and at the end of those 4 days, I can pretty much guarantee that something else will have popped up that I'll want to grab.
So, our resources have been sort of "simmering"...nothing too dramatic.
Chilastra has been pretty regular about shifting. I have put down harvesters on fresh popped sites and they have stayed up for the prescribed 5-8 days, but I also finally took down some wood harvesters the other daythat had been pulling for 12 days or more. I have never experienced the 1 day or 2 day shift. On average I would say when something pops, I can be pretty sure it will last about a week.
Of course right now I am still concentrating on grinding material more than anything, although rumor has it some hydro 3 has popped up somewhere. May be time for a road-trip![]()
what do you need the hydro 3 for? i haven't seen that on any schematic yet for ws. there's some on endor, maybe i should grab it?
our resourcs shift have been pretty regular at 8 or 9 days, although they do stagger over a couple of days before the resources are totally rotated.
Class 3 solid petro is for adv vibro units...
Anyway, Bria shifts pretty often. It tends to be weekly, with minerals shifting one day, chemicals another, flora another. Some resources tend to hang around longer than others (seemingly the unpopular ones)
I was samplingaround Theed on Naboo (Tempest Server) and witnessed a resource shift happen.
The anoying thing now is I can't sample any of the new resources I sit in an area with 80% concentration and it says its too low to sample.
Also when I go to my harvesters I try to change the resources to the new ones but there not showing up even though my survey devices says theres tons around.
This is very anoying
