Thread: Extraction Rate vs Maint Cost
I have placed some harvesters with following results:
medium rate 10: maint 108
old heavy rate 10: maint 138
old heavy rate 11: maint 154
new heavy rate 13 maint 186
redeed does not change anything.
redeed cost were maint * 50.
The formular for heavy is: maint = rate * 16 - 22
I have to do some more tests with mediums to get a formular for those, too.
Are you sure with maint of 104 with you medium? I had 108 with the same extraction rate on a medium one.
The maint rates are currently bugged. I had some harvesters down pre-patch all BER 10. Maint on these is 90+(8*3)=114/hr as it should be. (Each point of BER is +8 per hour for maint)
I have pre-patch harvesters also BER 10 that were in deed form. I just placed on of these. Maint is 138.
90+(2(8*3))=138
and the status screen on the harvester shows 114 (138) so the penalty for having a high extraction rate got added in there twice somehow. So now I have a BER 10 harvester with BER 13 maintenance rate ![]()

I have only tested with fresh placed harvesters (prepatch and new ones).
For mediums i got:
rate 7 : maint 60
rate 9 : maint 92
rate 10: maint 108 (as stated above)
so the formular for mediums is: maint = rate * 16 - 52
the maint for all small ones (rate 2-4) was 30.
The questions are: what was indended and what is bugged?
Lets compare the old unexperimented harvesters with the new ones based onsame maint costs:
old medium:maint 60 - rate 4
old heavy:maint 90 - rate 7
new medium: maint 60 - rate 7
new heavy: maint 90 - rate 7
I think the bug is more obvious now.
I belive they indented to keep the maint/rate ratio equal to the old harvesters but mixed up the forumlars.
To correct this they have to fix the maintenance formular to
maint = rate*16 - 4
and a new range of medium harvesters form rate 4 to
sorry, i hit submit too early.
the correct formular for mediums will result in following harvesters:
rate 4 (very bad 0% light ore mining unit and 0% harvester experimentation) with maint of 60. this one is excactly the same as an very old one.
rate 10 (very good experimentation on both) with maint of156
This would make sense. A medium with rate 10 should be less efficient (res/cr) than a heavy one. Not it is the other way round.
All of my harvesters with incorrect rates are correct now after the restart. Could be the patch, or just the restart fixed it. Anyway I am happy.

I'm trying to figure out what you guys are seeing.
Maintenance for harvesters with a current extract rate below 7 is just the base rate of the harvester. For harvesters with a current extract rate above 7 the equation is:
base_maintenance_rate + (cur_extract_rate - 7)*4
The base maintenance rates are:
- Small Harvester - 30 cr / hr
- Medium Harvester - 60 cr / hr
- Heavy Harvester - 90 cr / hr
I'm seeing consistant numbers on my local server, but I'm interested in if there are inconsistancies on live.
old medium:maint 60 - rate 4
old heavy:maint 90 - rate 7
new medium: maint 60 - rate 7
new heavy: maint 90 - rate 7
If what you are saying is you made a medium harvester of extract rate 7, then yes, it would have a better cost ratio than a heavy harvester with 7. The experimental ranges overlap. It's possible to make a highly experimented small harvester that's better than a low end medium harvester. It's possible to make a high end medium harvester that's better than a low end heavy harvester. A high end heavy harvester will always have the highest potentially craftable extract rate. You pay, however, for every point of extraction above 7. So a high end heavy harvester will also cost more to maintain.
A medium harvester at rate 7 is probably the most cost effective harvester, but a rate 13 heavy harvester will pull out nearly twice as many resources in the same spot for a higher cost.

I see two bugs. A minor one: the deed maintenance display is wrong. It's showing half the base hourly rate. And a major one that we need to hotfix: redeeding seems to accumulate the high efficiency penalty.
Does this seem consistant with what you guys are seeing?

Now: Rate 13, displayed maint on deed: 45, actual maint rate: 144.
Don't mind the change, but can the rate display be fixed, please?
Note: displayed modifiers:
- Merchant modifier: -20%
- High eff harv wear: +48cr/hr
...I didn't check those modifiers on first placement, but they remained static between second and third placements.
On another note, redeed costs are now 7200... intended?
Sevharin, what does the rate show up as on the right side of the harvester control window?
I see one point of confusion. The penalty is "(cur_rate - 7) * 4 * 2".My bad...the *2 is to convert from half hourly to hourly.
So for a 13 you should see:
90 + 48 = 138
48 being (13-7)*4*2
What it looks like happened to you is the penalty was applied twice, then your maintenance bonus was applied.
We're going to hotfix a solution to the penalty being applied twice and redeeding and replacing will remove the doubled penalty.
While you're in this thread... there's still a huge gap of no rate benefit, ranging from the mid-70s all the way up to at least 96% efficiency on these things with no change in rates, leaving no apparent benefit for really working at making nice harvs. Any chance we could get either a decimal point in betweem rates, or at least something to shoot for at the high (95%+) efficiencies? Hitting 100% with three required stats seems pretty unlikely (and I'm not sure even that would give rate 14, just guessing). Not asking for uber harvesters here, just that whatever scale is used allows return on that effort in the top 25%.
