Thread: People that are selling houses for 10K You are RUINING the market
Well, I *tried* selling houses for more than 10K, but all I ever got told was that they'd buy it elsewhere, cause everyone one else was selling them for 10K.
So who are you to tell me I'm doing something wrong? I am selling houses, running 8 harvesters, and still making money. I'll sell for what my customers are willing to pay, no more, no less.
If you can't make a living selling them at that price, you've got to be doing something wrong, cause I'm just not having that problem.
Now, if the market will let us sell it for more, I would love to. While I am making a profit, I'm not exactly becoming a millionaire either.
And just to add some more info... here's what I am doing...
I collected a TON of steel early on in the game, with a little friends help and with lots of acting as a <HELPER> while I sampled.
I run 8 Harvesters. 2 Wind and 6 Ore. They're sitting on a terrible 51% vein, but I like it because it's practically in my front yard. These six harvesters net me enough to make two houses a day (I sample for other resources). I sell those at 10K a piece. So I am making 20K a day. Dunno about you guys, but MY 8 Harvesters don't cost me 20K a day. You must be getting ripped off, find a new harvester company or something.
Sometimes, I make deals. I trade people a house for a dumpload of ore, at least enough to make another house. I do this when I'm a little ahead in cash and can afford it. Why? Because I want to be a Master Architect. Why? Sure, I want to help my friends with the PA hall. But it's because I love this class. This is the first class in any MMORPG where I've felt a real understanding of my character. Don't criticize me because I have goals and am working to reach them.
By the way, I also made lots of money BEFORE I was an Architect selling items. People seem amazed that you could make a living as a Novice Artisan. I think some of you may be suffering more from method than game design issues. This may not be real life, but you're still selling a tangible product for "money" someone had to earn. It's not all about whether it's 10K or 15K or 20K. If you're not offering anything better or different, then you'd better make the customer service experience stick out. I would say 2/3rd of my sales are referral, because I take care of my customers.
I admit, I have a couple friends who sometimes bring me a bunch of materials to help me out, but I'm not talking like 4 houses a day worth or anything. And for those of you whining about the PA Architects getting all this unfair help... this is a MULTIPLAYER game, the whole POINT is to work together. Yes, if you're going it alone I bet it's difficult. It would be if you were a fighting class too, what's your point?
Lastly, I may sell them for 10K, but I don't run around town shouting that. I did at one point, but when the whole debate came up, I decided to respect my fellow Architects and only quote prices in /tell or email.
I hate to sound sarcastic, but really... come on. I am doing fine running my harvesters and selling my homes. I'm not broke, I'm not frustrated. I charge just about 3 per resource, and I'm sorry if some of you don't like that. I have the ability to make the product and sell it for that price and make a reasonable profit to keep my business growing. I'm not cheating, I'm not doing whatever that "cheat" is someone said about harvesters. I'm playing it as I *think* SOE intended it. I'd like to sell them for more, too, but I can't, people won't buy them at that price.
As for the person who said people are going to expect the Medium houses to be like 20-30K, that's ridiculous. I tell my customers exactly how many resources the product uses, and what I am charging them. I've had people ask me already about medium homes, and based on my rough estimates (haven't seen the schematic yet, should tomorrow) I figure I'll sell them for around 70-80K. That's higher than my price for the smalls per resource, but there's a lot more room for failure on the medium as well.
I sell smalls on Eclipse for 11k minimum. This was before the resource change and now it will be 15-18k.
I know a particular PA that is struggling for cash now because they have fields of useless show-off junk will probably try to undercut me.
Let them. I am currently undercut by as much as 3-4k right now but people come to me because I have what I say I am selling *on-hand* and ready to go (well specific floorplans may require a ten minute wait).
I am laughing with the new resource system changes all the way to the bank because the idiots who sold for less will now be scrambling to cover those harvesters.
As my character runs around in-game shouting: "Cheer Cheer! Harvester maintainence is here!"
I wanted to bump this.. mostly for those people who were defending the price of charging less than 10k per house. I suspect it is probablybecause of people like them that "they" felt the need for the last patch.
I was kind of heart broken over the patch, with the nerfs to resource gathering, but it makes me kind of chuckle. Those who were not exploiting (okay, maybe exploiting is too strong of a word) the non-maintained harvestors probably don't see much of a difference while those who were may have to rethink everything. I have a friend who just up and quit his crafting over the nerf. I suspect he'll go back to it, but man, I believe those who were trying to convince people to stop others for charging so cheaply feel vindicated and redeemed by the last patch.
I was not aproponent of either side myself.. but I was not surprised at all by the nerf, heh, as I'm sure many others who have a notion of game balance.
The people who frequently say "I told you so," generally get on my nerves.. but for those who were pushing for the higher cost.. the last nerf was a great big, "I told you so!"
Heh, heh.
Happy mining everyone. ![]()
Drase:
I agree, and I am selling my homes at just around 3 per resource (actually it's about 2.96). You just said the average range for a resource is 3 creds/unit.
Small House: 3,388 units
10,000/3,388 = 2.9515938.....
So, while I understand your point, you kind of ruined your own argument there. Let's see, I've sold about 10 homes, and all my customers have been happy with the experience. I follow up, I offer assistance, and I'm very friendly. As a result, I now have a list of people who would like to buy a home from me. Odds are, when they're ready for a larger home, they'll come to me as they had a good experience the first time.
If I was actually selling homes at a loss, I could see your point, my friends. But I'm NOT. I've got over 50K in my bank account and my harvesters are still paid up through tomorrow. I'll sell another two houses today. Every day I get a little further ahead. I'll need that money to help my friends with maintenance costs once I can build them a PA hall. (They're entertainers, and nobody tips entertainers much, sadly).
As I said before. I'm not cheating or exploiting. I keep my harvesters full of money and full of power. I don't know what all this is about some power exploit. I put a ton of power in my harvesters, and boy do they eat it up!
I have ONE friend helping me, every day or two he drops a couple stacks of resources on me to help (he's waiting for me to build him that medium house!). I don't have a giant PA, and I don't have 40 harvesters going. I really don't understand what the problem is. I've GOT to believe you're all doing something wrong, because I am making money, making experience, having a blast, making lots of new friends through sales, and helping my friends by getting closer and closer to the PA hall we all dreamed of in Beta.
All of this, and selling the houses at 10K. I really don't understand what you're all doing that's costing you so much money. Even if I put 1500 creds on EACH of my harvesters every day, that's only 12,000 a day, and I can make at least two homes a day. That's 8,000 a day profit. Someone, PLEASE explain to me how selling two houses a day at $8,000 profit is selling them at a loss?
I sold my first house at 15k after my first shout. I always ask for a waypoint, and I've since visited to drop off a couch, chest, and plant as house warming gifts. Since then I've been boggled. 10k is right. That's what everyone on Lowca is selling them for. It's sad.
I was comissioned by a pair of dolts named Eight Ball and barron something to build a house. They had a bit of an attitude but I was excited that we agreed upon 12k from the 15k I wanted. Better than nothing, and I wanted to get maintenance money. After I build the house, they tell me that someone is selling one for 9k - can I do better? I said no and that was that. No deal. If you're on Lowca, avoid these clowns.
I've relocated to the mountains of Naboo, where I have a little isolated hilltop spot, 8 harvesters grabbing ore, 1 grabbing steel, and a quaint little cottage to work in. I'm building homes, about 2-3 a day seems right at my feeble 45% vein, and they are going to my friends (future guildmates) so that we can start populating a new city. They are in turn providing me with maintenace money when they can, and lot space when we get around to dropping more ore mines (I'm waiting on the expected crop rotation before planting a bunch more). They run missions all the time and have all the fun, so they can afford to keep me in business. When I get up to medium or large houses, I'll try selling them for a reasonable amount of money. But 10k for a house makes me sad. I could've made that with a Chitin armor breastplate, if the shouting I hear is accurate.
I think the market might get 'repaired' soon, instead of worse. Once there are enough master architects, the new players and smaller guilds will buy a guild hall instead of power leveling someone to be one of the first. That means the number of active architects should die down, and some of the existing master architects will probably be focusing on some other more profitable class, instead of gathering ore in mass quantities. Once they have their PA hall, there is no longer a need for that kind of group focus, and they've already made the class very low-profit. I know you speak of making 8,000 credits in profit for a full days worth of mining, but while I don't have the schematics, please think about what materials and time it might take to make a full set of Chitin armor, and that I have seen that selling for 40,000+ per set in the same breath as 10,000 for a house.
I'm at ~19000 additional general crafting experience, and was thinking of going Chef for fun. I may end up going Armorsmith just to compare the profits and illustrate this better. Besides, it'll give me something else to do with my day after I've built my 2-3 houses.
I'm also on the Lowca server. If the original poster, and the other Lowca Architects would like to drop Glug an email, that would be cool. I'd love to pool training wheverever possible, and even discuss minimum prices, or sweet resource veins.. whatever. I'd wager that most future PA's - small medium or large - are working with a single Architect. While we might have 5 friends playing scouts to help each other out, we're somewhat solo in our own groups.

i dont think anyone individual is trying to lower the price, but getting to novice architect is way to easy. and there are alot of people selling the same ting, so the market is going to collapse.
Us trying to make everyoneÃÂÃÂ sell for 20k is like asking for an artisan to sell a survey tool for 1000credits.
ÃÂÃÂ
not going to happen, too many people can make em.
Honestly, after playing around for a couple of weeks, I doubt those low-end Architects are selling below their cost, really. It's possible to be very efficient if you're clever about it, especially if your primary goal is to improve your skill rather than to create a self-sustaining profitable business.
when i was looking for a house i contacted many architechs and asked for one... i finally got one (paid 18k) i thought that wasa great price. so i went out and found me a spot and placed it... after seeing it my friend wanted one and to my suprise he can back within an hour and placed his. Guess how much he paid? 8k
what really got me about the architech was this.. later i asked him about furniture... he said he was too busy leveling for master
well all i can say is that i have turned LOTS of players away from him since then.. this is an MMORPG and it is about interaction with everyone. take the time to get to know your customers and talk with them...it will be worth it in the long run cause people will recommend you and keep coming back. I have now found a great architech in game (props to Madeline) she is very friendly and is always kind when you ask her about something or need something built.
i have had people coming up to me in game and telling me that most of the droid eng they meet are being pricks (as far as attitude in game) so i get 90% of my business cause people don't want to deal with the other DE's
NASsoccer if you're playing on Eclipse I sell furniture all the time at my shop.Check the sigfor the location or just mail me in game andI'll mail you a waypoint.
Sorry but personally I feel thatif you're selling for 10K you are selling for less than the resources are worth. You're making less profit than if you outright just sold them. Furthermorewith your price point everyone is forced to run harvesters. What if I just want to buy resources on demand? That currently is not feasible.
Firnally what really gets me is thatalot of people are complaining that the power and maintence costs are too high on harvesters. That's bull**edit** to me.It still takes less than 1 cred/unit resource. That is not too much to ask. Maybe the problem is that people are runningmore harvesters than their business can afford.
I ran all over Coronet (Chilastra) for two hours last night trying to sell a house deed for 15k. After a half hour I went down to 14k. Another half hour... down to 13k. Nobody was buying.
I received multiple private tells informing me that the going rate was 8K!!!
After another hour of spamming, I finally was able to sell the deed for 10k. Did I feel like crap about? Yep. Did I know I was selling far below market value? Yep. Did I know I was hurting the market? Yep.
But guess, what... I have harvesters that I don't want turning into piles of smoking metal, so I needed to make the deal ASAP to pay my mainteance, plain and simple.
