Resouces concentrations change daily. If you're looking for a spec. resource you'll just have to start surveying randomly but if you're just looking for a high concentration of anything just cycle through all resources on survey device until you reach a high conc. you may also have to use several different types of survey devices to find the highest amount. But no, there is no way to predict or plot resource shifts.(as far as I know)

I remember reading somewhere that Rori was supposed to have higher concentrations of resources. Maybe the original instruction manual? I think it's all crazy talk though. Probably some writer making stuff up to come up with a planet description - something that makes Rori sound different from the others. Like saying that Mon-Cal don't like arid climates. Sounds cool, but has no meaning. I seriously doubt it was implemented in any way in the game.

And like the others have said, I don't think there's a way to predict what resources will spawn where. You won't find higher concentrations of water if you're near rivers or lakes. You won't find higher concentrations of minerals in mountains. I think it would be cool to add though. And also in space (if they ever get around to implementing the super-cool harvester ship idea) - would be cool to have nebulas have high concentrations of gas, asteroid fields have high concentration of minerals, stars have high concentration of solar energy, etc...

But right now, you have to just run all over the planet looking. Or even better, pay some other artisan to do it (I personally don't enjoy surveying)...

What surveydevice do you use to find water?

Thanks

There is a specific survey tool for water, which is called, logically enough, "Water Survey Device". It can be made at Novice Artisan.

Find a high concentration of something, preferrably 90% or above, which is pretty easy to find if you stand in a city, usually there is always a 90% concentration of some metal in a major city.

Next, start a surveying macro

Next, go to sleep, work, etc.

Comeback, train

Repeat

I'd love if that would work...but I don't recall any macros that would get rid of the randomg pop-up box.

The surveying macros ignore the pop-up box

This macro has always served me well... the /sit command will work around the pop-upboxes due to the change in posture. You will need to adjust the /pause 35 command after the /sit. That pause is the exact amount of time that my character needs to recover to full action after sampling for 90 seconds, but your charater's recovery may be faster or slower depending on your HAM and Secondary HAM attributes. The /ui action toolbarSlot05 corresponds to the location of my macro hot key on my toolbar and it will cause the macro to "loop".

/stand;

/pause 3;

/sample;

/pause 90;

/sit;

/pause 35;

/ui action toolbarSlot05

Or you can type in /macro <name of macro> and it will loop without the annoying ding of hitting a toolbar button

Well personally I did a search for this, to see if it had been discussed before. But as my luck normally is, it's broken right now.

Anywho, I don't think we shouldn't get survey xp when we don't sample something. Because honestly, we learn more from failure then from winning. Not to mention this has to be, the hands down longest tier to grind in the game. Not only are you tempted to do it afk, but it is one of the few skills that when you do it afk, it'll take the better part of half a week, for the whole tier.

The bottom line is, I think we need to get survey xp even when we don't retrieve the resource.

OK, I am brand spanking new to artisan, and really only want to get into surveying to start selling resources as a side business of adventuring. I cannot find 2 things in in the FAQ that look remotely up to date:

1. how do I survey

2. does anyone have a decent and easy macro...I am pretty macro inept.

Please dont yell at me to check the FAQ, I did, but it all looks like it is a year or better old.

first you need the appropriate tool for the desired resource i.e. either a water chemical gas mineral etc tool

select the tool and you will see the available resources on that planet..highlight the desired resource .hit the survey button.. after a few secs you will see the % of the resource detected in your area and a wp will be generated to the highest spot in your range ...as you increase your skill you have greater range...

macros ..im an idiot too lol
