Thread: Skill Tapes?

I think that the person who wrote the first message didn't know what a skill tape was. From what I've gathered, skill tapes are used when creating clothing, to give special protections to the shirt. For example I have a shirt w/ melee combat and stun resists. Soon I will have one with Bleed Defense as well. Armor attachments do the same thing, but you can put them in the slots for armor as you desire, until all the slots are full. I was given some pistol speed attachments, so I placed them in the slots. I hope this is accurate and helps.

I'm pretty sure I attached a skill tape to a shirt I had and it took up one slot...

But will two different articles of clothing each with the same type of skill tape stack?

I'm not too up to date on them, anyone care to fill me in on how they are exactly used and what the benefit is. I have assumed both but I'd just like to be 100 percent sure.

I think TH has a post somwhere about SEAs in general but here is the cliff's notes version.

SEAs come in 2 flavors. Skill tapes and armor attachments. Sill tapes must be dropped (drag and dropped) onto clothing with slots. Once dropped, you cannot remove the tape. Armor attachments must be crafted into a piece of armor by an armorsmith. It also cannot be removed.

SEAs will add to your skill mods. For example, a master pistoleer has +74 speed. A +5 Pistol Speed tape will give him +79. You can add up to +25 over the mods that you have received through training. That means you can go as high as Pistol Speed +99.

Depending on the mod on the SEA, you will get different benefits. Some will add to terrain negotiation, accuracy, speed, take cover, etc. Only the highest mod on a multi-mod SEA is used. So a pistol speed +5, take cover +2 and bleed resistance +1 tape will only use the pistol speed.

These are looted items. You can loot them from NPCs, locked containers, various dungeons, etc. Anything you can loot potentially can yield an SEA.

You can usually get the high end skill tapes from high end NPCs like nightsisters elders, dark jedi masters,or corellian corvette mobs.

I would suggest getting pistol speed tapes first so you can cap out your speed when firing stopping shot/last ditch. For most people using 2.5 speed or so pistols you'll need another +16 in tapes after hitting master pistoleer to cap your firing speed with stopping shot/last ditch (assuming you don't have master marksman or BH pistols).

After that, it's a matter of personal taste. If you don't plan to PvP, then I wouldn't spend time or money trying to get other tapes, but if you plan to PvP as a pistoleer, read the suggestions below.

Some people like to get dodge so they can raise their dodge to the 125 cap without having to dabble in fencer, and then add to their dodge with pikatta pie (which goes above the defense cap). If KD/posture down is a big issue for you in PvP, then I would get defense vs. kd/posture down tapes. I don't remember offhand how much defense vs. posture down that pistoleers get, but it's a not a large amount from what I remember. The defense vs. knockdown is significantly higher.

You can also invest in pistol accuracy/pistol accuracy while moving tapes to increase your chances of hitting defense stackers. I wouldn't bother with pistol accuracy while standing tapes since you don't really get the chance to stand still much in PvP, especially if you are trying to stay within the ideal range for pistols, and keep out of range of melees.

Remember that you can put armor attachments into an ubese shirt/mabari belt/ubese bandolier, and wear those pieces with armor. Ubese shirts/mabari belts/ubese bandoliers never wear out, either. The drawback of wearing a mabari belt is that you can't use a PSG, and the drawback of wearing an ubese bandolier is that you can't wear a backpack.

If you like to use PSG's for PvP (to mitigate the stun damage of fencer/rifleman/other pistoleer) then you can't put skill tapes in a belt. If you must put tapes into armor itself, composite armor with krayt segments last a lot longer, though they have stun vulnerability. If you go this route, put the tape into an bracer/bicep or gloves, as they get hit less than the other pieces of armor.

As for the first question, you can only put one skill tape of each type in an item, the others won't do anything. So you can only put either the +5 pistol speed, or the +6 pistol speed, in the shirt. You will need to put the other tape in another appropriate clothing/armor item to get it to work.

As for the second question, ubese bandoliers and shirts don't decay because they don't have any condition on them.
