Thread: how do you make money?

It's slow going at first but soon you will be making plenty of money. I recommend harvesting/mining resources and selling them on the bazaar to get yourself started. If you start from scratch and have no money then you will need to run some fed-ex or survey missions first. After you do these for a few hours you should have enough cash to buy yourself some personal harvesters. I would start with a personal mineral harvester and a wind or solar energy generator. These require cash to run (and power for themineral harvester)so you will need to build up a small stash first by doing missions. Don't over extend yourself at the beginning - start slow and work your way up. You will need to do research on the web to determine what would be the best resource(s) to harvest on your planet at that time. You want something that people need and are very willing to buy. Learn what stats are important for each resource and what is most needed by the various crafting professions.

Once you are harvesting resources you should sell them on the bazaar in large stacks. I suggest pricing them reasonably in order to sell them fast. Cash flow is important. The sooner you start making cash the sooner you can expand your business. Sell the resources in stacks of 500-1500 for 3000 credits per stack (2 to 6 credits per unit depending on the quality, etc.). Since they will cost you less than 1 credit per unit to harvest you will start making a profit. As you accumulate cash you can start upgrading your harvesters to medium, etc., which are more efficient.

Accumulating harvesters and resources at the beginning will also help you with your own crafting, by providing materials and funds.

After your surveying skills improve you can also make money by contracting yourself out to others. There are plenty of doctors, for example, who don't have Artisan skills so they need someone to provide waypoints to resources for them.

Hope this helps some. Good luck and have fun!

So, how do you make your money in SWG?
I personally run on a very low budget. Since I'm a hardcore RPr, and despite playing since January, I'm a Master Artisan who only makes small amounts of money from the occasional vendor sale. It doesn't give me the most amazing existence, but it's how my character would do it.

You really need to master an elite crafting profession if you wish to make money that way. The way that the economies are at the moment on most servers, you are better off sticking to combat and running missions on Dant or Dath in a solo group.

Combat = 1m credits + a day if done right
Crafting = 1m credits a week if you are a master level.

I usually run high level missions on Dantooine with my ATST at a city with an improved job market. I can't stand more that one buff session of that though, so my bank account usually hovers around 2-3 million credits. Since I'm not patient enough to be a crafter I doubt I'll ever put in the time to run a business and make millions anyway, but I'm a casual gamer so I'm not in it for the money anyway.

It may cost you a good amount of cash to get going but if you can start a good armorsmithing business you can make all the cash you'll need on a consistant basis Worked for me. I fund my other two alts and a couple of real life friends and their characters by armor crafting and sales. Been at it for over a year though. It's all about the resources.

I have two main sources of income; high end loot hunting and buying/selling on the trade auctions. For a time I was actually making more creds of clever buying/selling, but one or two good loots drop can really help the bank balance.

I dont do missions anymore, except when I feel like something different. The other day, for example, I wanted to see how many creds I could make in an hour. Went to dant, joined a solo group, and made 700k. Not bad, but I'd rather spend an hour hunting down NS and not getting anything.

There's a few observations I find interesting about the SWG economy. The main one is where the money comes from. On each server there is, at any one time, a certain amount of credits in total (on hand and in bank accounts)(lets call this 400 billion). When we buy and sell thingswe aren't 'making' money, as such, we are just transfering it from our character to the buyer's etc. Each and every one of those '400 billion' credits has come from 2 places; coins looted off of kills, and rewards from mission terminals [1]. These two things are the only way to actually add/create credits into the economy. If people stopped doing missions, pretty soon the economy would come to a dead stop.

[1] credit duping, ofc, deserves a mention.

I ran a Loot shop for a few months, and before that sold the higher end stuff on the forums. Made about 65 million and have been bumming since. If I ever need credits, I reach in to my bank and pull out something to auction.
