Thread: How to make max BER 10 medium or BER 13 heavies.
Further comments greatly appreciated.

Ok, here's a question: Do we have a general equation for figuring BER based on ingredients?
To get max BER is it something like this?? :
(Mining Unit experiment result + Final assembly experiment result
/ 2 >= 90%
And is the maximum experiment result possible = average material stats / 1000 ?
Base Rate + floor[(Harvesting Subcomponent Experimental Effectiveness + Final Combine Experimental Effectivemess)/25]
where "Base Rate" for heavies is 6.
What this says is that you need for the quality of the mining unit plus the quality of the final assembly to be 175 or more.
My guess is that it's a bit more convoluted - I wouldn't want to target to "just barely" beat this number.
This is why people say to experiment the mining unit as high as possible - it gives you a lot more leeway on the final assembly (where you have more at stake).

That looks about right for heavies. Does it pan out well for mediums? And what would the base rate for mediums be?
Zen, thanks to you and Reegan. This is the kind of thing I was looking for. It looks right.
Another question: Does anyone know if the quality of the Ore Mining Unit currently matters in the fusions?

I think it does. Just after the patch when they took away experimentation on fusions, I had an 83% OMU and an 87% OMU around. I used the same materials for final assembly and got a BER13 and BER14 fusion (respectively) out of them.
Since you have to have factory-made OMUs for heavy minerals anyway, trying to get by on a "hand built" OMU for the fusions using non-great material just doesn't seem to be worth the "saving" of materials.
Again, this isn't my work - it is the work of "Reegan" (on both the Amazon Basin forums and on this forum).

Where Base Rate is as follows:
Personal.....1
Medium.......3
Heavy.........6
Wind...........6
Solar...........6?
Fusion.........11?
*NOTE: Personal/Wind do not have a harvesting subcomponet, treat is as a 0%
In addition I think there is a minimum rate on the power generators of
Solar..........8
Fusion........13
Because the experimental effectiveness percentages of the subcomponent and final combines are added and not the bonus at resulting from each, you can get that extra +1 max on the Medium and Heavies that I couldn't account for in my previous formulas. The reason this doesn't appear to work for right for solar/fusion generators is because they use the Misc. experimenting category for extraction rate in the final combine and not Experimental Effectiveness that the subcomponent gives. Thus the subcomponent has no effect.
So the resource requirements for the top quality harvestors are as follows:
Personal: 2*UT+SR+HR = 3000
Medium/Heavy: 2*UT+SR+HR= 3500

hmm that seems to contradict my idea

I haven't actually tested this, after all it is expensive to waste all those resources on a 13 BER Fusion which NOBODY will buy, however, I observed quite early on that I sometimes got a 13, I didn't have much experience at the time, so I had assumed it was the quality of resources I was using, I admit to being confused at this because I had read about the 900+ rule and knew to use lube oil, so I surmise now that it was a lower quality OMU that would cause the problem (I used to stop as soon as I reached 6 with them).
It might be possible to test by using identical resources for two Fusions except for using say a 92% and 97% OMU, they should both easily hit 14 but the percentage efficiency on the higher OMU one should be higher. If this is the case then I would say it is reasonably proven.
