Thread: The Future of Houses?
As a master architect (in beta and now in live), here's what I'd like to see:
More variety of floorplansper planet / generic to choose from(the customize feature would be nice, but is a bit too much).
Colorization options on interiors (the red interiors and carpets in naboo houses is nice, but I'd like variety on this)
Seeing a model of the house when viewing the details of a deed would be nice (saves a lot of hassle explaining to people what the house they're about to buy really looks like).
Furniture customization (color tinting). That's all I really need... just more color tints and I'll be happy.
Furniture use... cabinets, chests, armoirs that actually act as containers in a house... furniture that give bonuses to healing rates (like droids give bonus to medics in the field, etc). This makes for a broader market than just the people who want a nice looking house.
Scaled model homes (like the droid chasis) that we can place on display (like 1/16th scale or whatever... just like a little model of the exterior types we can make that we can set up on display for people to see). That way, we don't have to build different models, or coax our friends into building different styles of homes that we can give tours in.
An architect only survey tool that can be set to a structure type, so we can survey for buildable areas without having to a) have lots available for the building type, b) have a deed for a building in inventory... this way, we can assist clients in placing structures by "surveying" the area and getting the overhead view and wireframe outline of the structure our client is attempting to place... this way, we can help them find the best areas to place, and are able to readily lead them to the best placement spots. It would go a long way to add a "service" that architects can provide to their clients, without having to actually keep lots free to see that nice overhead view. Just a thought ![]()
A way to lock doors without having to completely make our structures private. As it stands now, I have to "block" a hallway or doorway with a craft station, or other non-collidable object (factory crate, toolchest, etc) to restrict access to certain areas of my house. I don't put an access fee on my house, and keep it public, so that people may access my vendor freely... but it would be nice to have one or two rooms that are just for myself and friends (my private craft work area, bedroom, etc). It's sometimes shocking to come back to my workshop and find a dozen people in my basement work area using my craft stations (I'm happy to be of service, but sometimes it's a bit much).
Guild halls... fix them... not having access to guild terminals, house management terminals or the elevator is crippling. Also, a concise listing of all structure slash commands would be nice (/help gets cut off, and is near useless to find the command you want). A list on the web, or sortable via the holocron with descriptions of each command would be immensely helpful.
Guild hall lot sizes... it's insane... basically, to be a guild leader, you must give up any hope of being a crafter, or owning anything larger than a small style 2 house for your own use. There has to be a way (perhaps over time if the guild sticks around for a long period) to regain some of your lots, or share the lot cost with others in guild.
CRIT FAILS!!! This by far is an un-acceptable level... +55 max structure assembly skill at master architect?? This number needs to be increased. The number of final combines I've failed over the past month is staggering... there needs to be a way to up this bonus... bonuses from craft station or droids perhaps? I'm just tired of hours of work and tens of thousands of resources, hours of factory time... all swiped away with one final combine click... heck... I'd even PAY good money if it boosted my chance of not failing on something as complex and expensive as a large class harvester, PA hall or large house... losing a combine on something of that magnitude should NOT happen (or happen so rarely that it isn't a game crippling event). I don't make enough money per resource unit expended to survive full crit failures on structures.. please do something to increase our success chances.
That's about all I can think of that would REALLY fix this profession... the last item on my list is the MOST critical of all the other issues though in my opinion...
Thanks,
I would like to see housing be free'ly placeable.
I think I should be allowed to have a NABOO style house on any planet, maybe even make the maintenance fee's higher when they arent on the sameplanet.
say a tax for the building permit.

I really think we should be able to build houses not unpack them from a kit. currently all we do is take a basic set of legos and put them together like it shows on the box. I would really love to be able to design houses fromt he ground up. choosing room size/shape number of rooms/levels etc.... fenced in yards. and i really think businesses should get their own building type. not just the same houses witha vendor in them.
UO has been around since 97 and they have just added this ability in the past 6 months to year. I think it will be added to SWG in a few years, but I doubt before then.
And the current drag and drop interface is horrid. We can't even place furniture where we want yet. Now you want to design a whole house with the same system? I think it's a good idea too, but we need to look at 3-6 months time frame not 3-6 years.

As for the tetris drag n drop idea that is bloody brilliant. I honestly don't see it being that difficult to implement. But I honeslty don't know about coding. They already have drag n drog interfaces.
