Thread: hey, I actually had a good idea
Why not have a 1/100,000 shot (or less) of making a amazeing whatever. And yes it does happen.
In my profession we have to improvise a lot of stuff cause they haven't made devices that hit all the situations we run into. Many of the devecies we use were just that, improvisations that became inventions, so why not.

Nah, this isn't Everquest where wizards make +50 Long Swords with Fire shooting abilities. Ths is Star Wars. Everything in Star Wars is created in factories. They mass-produce weapons, then sell them. You have the Smugglers to "up" the damage for you by tweaking it. A gun is a gun. And that's really that. The only exception to the rule are the rare cases: Boba's modified Madalorian Armor and the Jedis' lightsabers. But a Stormtrooper rifle is a Stormtrooper rifle.
I disagree.A weapon is not a weapon. A hand crafted sniper rifle is not of the same quality as a Wal-Mart hunting rifle. Little things can be done to improve the effectiveness and quality of a weapon. I don't think it's unreasonable to imagine a weaponsmith sitting there and hand crafting a super accurate rifle by hand fitting the pieces and tweaking the trigger so it's just right.
I think this definitely has a place in the Star Wars universe.

Ohhhhh I *LIKE* this idea. I can see it now. Legendary bikes, guns, armor, and PIE!
Chiefs would be really happy
Hey lets leave Kansas City out of this ok?
But seriously though, I like the idea. If it comes up good enough, the schematic button goes away. Anyone already knows that the best quality ANYTHING is hand-made and not mass produced.
This does stir up somethign though. Those legendary crafts would go for a LOT of money because they just became very unique. If a crafter makes just one, and makes a lot of dough, he can relax and stop working for cash. Or even worse, he may stop making regular Joe items in favor of shooting for the brass ring all the time.

This is a good point, but a positive one. It opens up the market for crafters who don't want to shoot for the brass ring and just grind out standard weapons. Two distinct types of crafter personalities both serving a needed role in the economy. It's the same in the real world where most people drive a Ford and only a select few drive custom made Bentlies (sp?).

Yeah, I expect this. Those people who want to shoot for the brass ring can do so, BUT, since they already made other Non-uber items, they might as well do something with them and sell them as either components or just take a little time and make final items out of them (giving them another chance at a legendary experimentation) They sell the items to try and recoup some of the money used on the resources for trying. It all works out. Who's the artisan correspondant? I would like to mail him my idea.
