Nah, this isn't Everquest where wizards make +50 Long Swords with Fire shooting abilities. Ths is Star Wars. Everything in Star Wars is created in factories. They mass-produce weapons, then sell them. You have the Smugglers to "up" the damage for you by tweaking it. A gun is a gun. And that's really that. The only exception to the rule are the rare cases: Boba's modified Madalorian Armor and the Jedis' lightsabers. But a Stormtrooper rifle is a Stormtrooper rifle.

I kind of agree with this.
Why not have a 1/100,000 shot (or less) of making a amazeing whatever. And yes it does happen.

In my profession we have to improvise a lot of stuff cause they haven't made devices that hit all the situations we run into. Many of the devecies we use were just that, improvisations that became inventions, so why not.

I disagree.A weapon is not a weapon. A hand crafted sniper rifle is not of the same quality as a Wal-Mart hunting rifle. Little things can be done to improve the effectiveness and quality of a weapon. I don't think it's unreasonable to imagine a weaponsmith sitting there and hand crafting a super accurate rifle by hand fitting the pieces and tweaking the trigger so it's just right.

I think this definitely has a place in the Star Wars universe.

Han Solo is the perfect example. His ship was faster, mor heavily armored than a normal freighter. He had a few special modifications. He also carried a modified heavy blaster pistol. For the most part, sure, a lot of stuff is mass produced, but I am offering people a chance to specialize on one or two guns for say, custom orders? If you read shadows of the empire, vader had a bunch of droids made to be worthy lightsaber oponents. most were factory made, but he had a few special modifications....and look at Guri. She was a one of a kind, LEGENDARY creation.

IF this were the case, then soon there would be more smiths speciallizing in specific weapon models........

As long as it was not only weaponsmiths.... this would fit my play style perfectly. I hate using factories, although as a DE I'm pretty much required to, because there are several things to craft that require identical components straight out of a factory crate. I know I'd do a lot more crafting if I had a chance of getting something better than average once in a while.

A system like this would be great for lower level artisan types as well. Imagine you're a Novice Artisan just figuring out the ropes and you manage to craft a Legendary CDEF pistol. WOW!!! You could sell it for enough to help pay your way through Master Artisan. It would add variety to the SWG world as well. Not everyone would be running around with Republic Blasters. You could see someone with a Legendary CDEF going toe to toe with someone who's using a T-21.

Chiefs would be really happy

Hey lets leave Kansas City out of this ok?

But seriously though, I like the idea. If it comes up good enough, the schematic button goes away. Anyone already knows that the best quality ANYTHING is hand-made and not mass produced.

This does stir up somethign though. Those legendary crafts would go for a LOT of money because they just became very unique. If a crafter makes just one, and makes a lot of dough, he can relax and stop working for cash. Or even worse, he may stop making regular Joe items in favor of shooting for the brass ring all the time.

This is a good point, but a positive one. It opens up the market for crafters who don't want to shoot for the brass ring and just grind out standard weapons. Two distinct types of crafter personalities both serving a needed role in the economy. It's the same in the real world where most people drive a Ford and only a select few drive custom made Bentlies (sp?).

Yeah, I expect this. Those people who want to shoot for the brass ring can do so, BUT, since they already made other Non-uber items, they might as well do something with them and sell them as either components or just take a little time and make final items out of them (giving them another chance at a legendary experimentation) They sell the items to try and recoup some of the money used on the resources for trying. It all works out. Who's the artisan correspondant? I would like to mail him my idea.

Well there's this BE on TestCenter that mastered and now gets bothered that people want non-ch pets. I'm not really sure what he's doing or making but it sure ain't non-ch. He keeps saying how they're useless and nobody wants em and even argues that point between all the posts that say "hey i want one" and "I can't find a BE who makes non-ch pets".

Also, a problem with selling the components and crafts you grinded to get to the top... Without adequate storage and/or a place to put them along the way, they all get destroyed or practiced. I'll guess that 95% of products used to level a master has been destroyed or used in practice mode.

The dev's kinda ruined the economy and crafting by making the push to Jedi a part of it.
