Thread: Final Deed in factory

One thing definitely bears mentioning here.
When you use a schematic calling for lets say, identical generators in a heavy harvester, your first harvester will use up two of your identical generators, but the second harvester produced can use a different two identical generators. So the only really important thing to consider in deciding whether to make a schematic for a heavy harvester

Actually, this isn't true.
When you make a schematic, if all the components in a stack have the same Serial number, that serial number is put into the schematic, and all future creations require that serial number. If the stack has multiple serial numbers, the schematic does NOT store the serial number, and can use any component of that type.
This means that single item components will require a specific serial number, since only 1 item in the stack means there is only going to be 1 serial number.
If you make a wall schematic with at least 2 different serial numbered struct mods, any struct mod will work in that schematic, BUT if you use all struct mods from 1 crate (i.e. all the same serial number), that schematic will require those structure mod serials.
If your schematic requires identical components, all components in that stack will have the same serial number, meaning the schematic will require that specific serial number for both sub-components.
The different serial trick ONLY works for stacks of SIMILIAR items, it won't help with stacks of IDENTICAL items.
OMG,
Sorry it took me a while to see this latest post.
The serial # is nost definitely not required for a schematic. I have tested this numerous times. All that is required is that the serial numbers match on items which must be identical.
Please do not mislead others til you have tested this yourself.
Actually maybe confusion is understandable...
You can make a mega-harvester using a schematic which requires two identical generators (for instance) and as long as the factory is fed the two identical generators you have no problem.
If at some later time, you decide to use that schematic again to make mega harvesters, you can now feed it two generators from a different factory run (i.e. they have same serial numbers but not the same serial numbers as those that were used the first time you used the schematic.) and again all will be fine.
Problems will occur however if you have a spare generator in your input hopper which does not match any other generator in your input hopper. Then the factory while trying to make the mega harvester may grab that unmatched generator, and once it tries to use it but cannot find match will probably fail to make your item.
THe gist of this is that two runs of 50 generators each (100 generators total) can be used to make 50 mega harvesters(they need two each-identical) as long as the generators are always fed in with a matching identical partner.
Hope this clears up any misunderstanding.
