Thread: Pricing guide?

I usually just pull numbers out of my ass. Furniture is fun because there's extreme opportunity for markup. Most people won't bat an eye at paying 6k for a couch, or 15k+ for master furniture, but try to charge 8cpu for harvesters and they used to freak out. *lol* So, I just pick a number that sounds good to me and makes it worth my time on harvesters. It's a piece of machinery that they will have for the rest of their crafting career, unless they don't take care of it. They can pay for it, because once they have their set of harvesters they probably won't be buying more ever again. Really, though, the architect market got screwed over in the beginning by architects just trying to get buy who were selling structures at LESS than the value of the resources. That stopped being a problem for awhile, but now it's going back to it. So, once I've unloaded all my left-over mmi's and shiny new rate 14s, I'm dropping out of the harvester business while the getting's good. However, furniture is fun, under-rated, and can be much more profitable. It will be a lot more fun once they finally get around to (PLEASE, Pretty please, everyone else has had a color palate for months, why can't we get one?) letting us select furniture colors.

Sell it at like 120 credits for chest, helm, pants. Less for gloves and boots. Also, experiment the kinetic up instead of the heat.

Its the brand new noobs that will be buying your armor, so if you offer it cheap, you are also going to compete with tailors. The noob will be buying the armor just so they don't look new and have a cool outfit. The mabori boots look really cool too, and if you are selling them for 75credits, and there are hide boots for 200 credits, I personally would buy the Mabori boots.

No wonder none of my stuff is selling in Theed. Tess is givingit away.

Ignore the hologrinders....I sold Mabari all through novice (get tech tree first though). Went through 3-5 suits per day as I watched the un-experimented stuff rot on Bazaar. I would say most everyone actually looks at the stats and 19% base looks a lot better than 4% base. Even if a noob isn't quite sure what he's looking at.

I would recommend looking to see if anyone else is selling decent stuff though and price accordingly. Travel to different cities too. You'll probably find it sells better in some.

Also, give some to your friends and go hunting with them. If you're in the same area, you get exp when the armor you made takes damage. Plus it's fun.

What is this, a Lowca board?

Much as it pains me to agree with a member of Goon (I am DANK) I find that while a formula is a good guide for setting prices, in the end I taylor it to what the market will bear, and what I can get away with. I have almost no profit margin with small houses, but a large profit with city halls.

I am not ready to sound the death knoll on the harvester market yet, but I agree their sales are way down, and it may be time to worry soon.

I used a formula, to figure out what my costs were. When I went to price my wares, based on the costs, I didn't like the result. So I threw out cost, and priced them based on what I thought people would pay, for the volume I want. I usually hear, "that's a good price", when I quote a price. Sometimes I hear that's high, but usually I hear that I havea "good price". That tells me I'm pricing at about what the market expects to pay. Thus my volume is the result of a stocked vendor from people with the credits to pay what they expect to pay.

There are a couple of items I have historically "given away". Small houses for 8k, back early on in player city development. And torches for 500. I think it is smart to have a lost-leader or two. This too, is another aspect to pricing.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA... DANK. Small world.

Not only did you agree with a member of goonsquad, but an officer.

Simple solution: Don't care if your prices are the best around. Just figure out what price is worth your time. Don't base your prices on what other people charge, because a lot of people are morons. If they can get it for 50% less elsewhere, they wouldn't be coming to you. I personally cater to people who would rather pay extra to have it NOW than pay less and wait a week. Plus, I don't have to restock my vendor every day.
