Thread: People that are selling houses for 10K You are RUINING the market
I always thought the prices for a house of any size should be high, high enough people would respect and appreciate their homes. My expectations for the cost of a small home was about 50k, med. 100k, large 150k, PAH 250k. Price ranges at these levels would give players something to work towards, one of many goals a player should have when playing a game of this magnitude.
Here I agree with Star. I think if the client is willing to supply the materials, I'll cut the cost in half (but I still want my Journeymans wages for constructing it). I think the rest of you are also correct. I think 25k is about right for a small house, with no furnishings. For 30k I say make them a furnished home they want. I mean come on, even in the old school MMORPGs houses were 35k for a small one.

I am working independently and given the ever changing resources, I thought perhaps I would buy resources from the bazaar so that I could craft while my harvestors were digging. Ok, so now I find that people not only want to buy houses for less then 10K but, they want 7-8 credits per resource and more likely 10+ per!! Hmm.... so you figure I buy enough resources to make one house, sell that house for 10K (if I am lucky enough to do it quick enough before the price drops to 6K in this failing ... er I mean fallin economy). WOOT!!!! I net a negative profit of 11K.
It is sounding more and more attractive to do missions to earn enough money (and keep it rather then pay people to buy my wares) to pay the 500k for a vehicle when they come out and drive thru the galaxy throwing credits out into space.
The is sounding more like a communistic government rather then a free economy to me.
Brilliant foresight Morquat!! Let me know how you are doing in a month.
No it's not us ruining the market...it's SOE.
The other day I journeyed all over Naboo from city to city trying to unload 5 small houses for 10k each. And you know what? I didn't get a single taker. I got several ppl who complained that my prices were too high however. The trip from Rori and all through Naboo probably cost me around 2-3k and I returned home with nothing to show for it.
So now since I refuse to give them away for 5k, I'm destroying them.
Here's the problem and you can completely thank the devs for it:
1. Nothing listed on the bazaar for more than 3k. Yay I love just running around hawking my wares like you used to have to in Kelethin. That was the reason I was never a trader of any type in EQ because it's about the most un-fun thing I can think of: spending my "game" time sitting down and shouting out every 10 minutes or so hoping someone will want your items. Or maybe you can find one of the 10 or so merchants on your server and sell it to them.
Using the bazaar was the only appeal imo to being a crafter in this game and the devs have actually managed to screw that up.
2. Power guilds and the requirement for them to have a MA who is more than willing to undercut the struggling artisans with their cheap houses (as we saw in Drax of TIO's post) but god forbid you should want a PA hall from them which means that there is a need now for their to be a ton of MA's at least one for every PA. I'd love to find a freelance MA who's willing to do these things but I'm sorry, I can grind my way up to MA faster than you can crawl up to it using the system the way it's "meant to be".
3. The general belief that you have to "grind" houses to advance as an architect. There are far more efficient and cheaper structures to grind if your only goal is MA as it is mine now.
But yeah in general the profession is screwed. Don't blame the struggling architect who's doing his/her best just to scrape enough money together to keep their harvesters goingthough. Put the blame where it belongs: THE DEVS!!
This issue will flesh itself out in a few months. Yes it is stupid that small houses are selling for 10k. I paid 5k for a gun yesterday. How's that for scale in the economy. I know a weaponsmith that buys any metal i have over 900 quality for 6 credits per. Right now, weaponsmiths and armorsmiths are making all the cash. One of by buds is a armorsmith/architect and he's telling all of his customers to come to ME for architect stuff cuz he can't keep up on the armor, and this guy plays 12 hours a day!
To those who truely love the profession, hang in there, people will give it up after they get sick of little to no profits. You "can" make money at 10k per house, but you're going to be spending tons of time hanging out and spamming /shouts to get business. What fun is that? You CAN'T make a profit at 10k perif you have a vendor / medium or large harvester farm / house of your own to maintain. What you'll have is alot of "basic novice architects" selling small houses for cheap, but medium/large house will sell for premium prices. I've got current standing orders for 4 medium houses at 55k each. Now we are talking coin.
Give it a few months, the strong will survive

I cant wait till these idiots start to get insane bad luck like i had. I failed 2 mediums in a row followed by 2 factories. I really wish the people selling smalls for under 10k would start to get fails like that. I normally sell for around 4-4.5 creds per resource but have had to drop smalls to 10k since all you ever see are people running aorund spamming them for 10k.
For everyone complaining though, there are 2 solutions. If you want to make money switch to Weaponsmith or Armorsmith and forget architect. Or if you are like me just adjust your prices to the minimum you want to charge and then when someone says 'Hey i can get it for X credits from Joe Dickwad', just reply 'Well go buy it from Joe Dickwad then. My lowest price is X.'
I tell people to "go buy it from Joe Dickwad" all the time. Usually I do a /who on Joe first to make sure he's not online, and then 10 minutes later, /tell the customer asking them if they bought their house. When they reply, "No, Joe's not online right now." I respond, "Ya, I noticed that. Shame."
Theres also another thing to note in the bugs/exploits that are still to be fixed. Im going to list them here in the hopes that they will be fixed soon. Once these are fixed, anyone sellign houses for 3k will be making zero money and it wont last long.
- To run a harvester all you need to dois put 1 power in it each time you change resources. It will then run forever on that resource. You will only need to pout another 1 unit of power in when you change resource or move the harvester.
- You dont need to pay any maintenance for harvesters. It is far more efficient with the perosnal harvesters to just place them and make new ones than pay maintenance.
- If you have friends or a PA just get everyone in your PA to do the previous thing and add you as an administrator.
- This is the worst one in my opinion: If you have a friend or 2 PCS witha second account. Make as many harvesters as you can. using your second PC or a friend get him to make a new character. Give him 10 harvesters, he places them. Delete account. Rinse and repeat and you can have 1000 harvesters in a couple of days. (This i think is an exploit the others i believe are bugs)
- Harvesters are supposed to become less effective as thier status goes down. This might be working but I havent really noticed any hge diference between a 20% harvester and a 100% harvester.
Once all these bugs have been fixed, and harvesters need power and actually dont work once they get under 100%, the economy will stabilize for architects. We are the only profession that needs huge amounts of resources and as you can see there are horrendous issues with harvesters. Fix these and we will start to come back up again.
