Variety is NOT a shift every day!!!! A shift once a week per resources at different times is what I expected, not placing four heavies and getting 127 steel the next day out of them.....

*sighs*

I don't think anyone but me knows how resource shifts work.

ALL RESOURCES DO NOT SHIFT AT ONCE. IT IS A GRADUAL PROCESS.

Good grief, Tuzmin, you should be suspended from posting until you get yourself under control. Everyone knows how resources shifts are *supposed* to work. Apparently everyone but you knows that they are frequently not working the way they are supposed to work.

My only complaint with resource shifting is the frequency....I'd like to see resources last a couple weeks on average.

Well, the Devs have said that if they're shifting more often than once every five days, that's a bug. (I think the range is 5-7.) The problem is, it's hard to detect, because you can put down harvesters on a resource that's been around for almost seven days, and have it vanish on you in a couple of hours. Nothing has gone wrong with the system there, just bad luck.

It seems to me that some people who move harvesters, move to a resource that has been avaiable for several days and is due for a shift. If you keep a daily log of what resources appeared and when, you can get an idea of when it will shift and plan accordingly. This will also prevent you from plopping those heavies down at 4.5k each on something that will shift in 24 hours or less.

"but oh wait while on talus i found a 68% ore that just came in. I was really happy so i plopped down my harvestors and went on my way. 8 hours later I notice that the ore I just put my harvestors on had shifted out."

that 68% spot had been there for a week, it lingered longer than everything else then vanished.

well the past 24hours has ticked me off LOL

on dantooine i was getting iron ( a secret plan of mine to overcharge weaponsmiths for this particular iron since I was the only one with harvestors there for some reason, besides they have the credits to spare to this poor architect ) anyways i digress, while checking my harvestors I was ecstatic to see that an ore just shifted in and i was on a 63% spot. Woot.

I go to dantiooine 8 hours later and notice that the new ore that had just shifted in, was gone. grrr, but oh wait while on talus i found a 68% ore that just came in. I was really happy so i plopped down my harvestors and went on my way. 8 hours later I notice that the ore I just put my harvestors on had shifted out. Now i am really frustrated because I lost 6k per harvestor when they shifted out due to that stupid rule where to redeed them is 3k and you lose those credits. What is wrong with the devs to do that to us LOL. so I spent the next 5 hours trying to find an ore spot. And of course already out 60k in credits.

finally I found one only 57% but oh well its something. I swear to god if I wake up tomorrow and it shifted out, I will , I will probably pick up my harvestors and try again LOL. Its just so damned frustrating, and i now only have 2k credits to my name.

The reason that resources shift is that, otherwise, the first people to the 95% spot will drop their harvesters there, and everyone else will have to make do with what they can get nearby.

Nonsense! You can fit a whole bunch of harvesters in a field that has a 95% density of a resource! (Probably more than there are artisans on a planet!)

The issue is the frequency!

5-7 days is crazy! Why do I need to spend time every day to verify that my harvesters are still active?!? Can't I leave them operating without interference for a couple of days!?!

One alternative: Simply do random changes on Saturday afternoons only! Then, I'd know that I'd have to log on Saturday evenings to check/move my harvesters! I simply can't afford the time (from my real life) required to do boring non-sense stuff like run around placing new harvestors and searching for new resources several times a week! And, as an architect, I need SO MANY resources I must have them running all the time!

Perhaps a weekly Saturday shift seems unnatural! But, considering that weekly shifts are completely unrealistic and quite bizzaro-world any way, it may be an improvement -- if just for the gameplay!

I think the best solution would be along the lines suggested through the correspondent issues: Have the harvester notify the own by email when it is turned off. This is certainly in line with the Star Wars universe, and would solve many problems at once. You would know if you ran out of power, if the maintenance ran out, or if the resource shifted. For all of these, the harvester automatically shuts off.

And to be balanced, you'd still have to go out to the harvesters and move them when the resources shifted. But you wouldn't have to go out just to check if they had shifted. It still leaves challenge in the game so that the systemand profession isn't too easy.

I do remember reading somewhere, though, that they planned on giving email notice when a harvester is down to 50% maintenance. I don't see the use of that, since most players would want to keep their installations kept much better than that. Personally, it's cheaper for me to tear down small harvesters and make new ones rather than pay the heavy repair costs.... Yes, it's a step in the right direction, but we need it to apply to whether there is a resource being mined or not.

I've now had this happen to me too many times and it's happened on new shift resources. This is for sure a once a day happening, sometimes. I put down four heavies on a steel yesterday. They got about 1k worth when the steel shifted. That was a new steel spot, as I had moved those harvs from another steel spot that had changed the day before. So now I moved the four heavies to a new steel spot tonight, which I know for certain is a new spot. We'll see how long it stays.

On Talus (corbantis) after the patch a few days ago, 3 types of ore depleted and the remaining 2 types shifted. I moved all 5 of my miners to the best spot on the freaking planet.....55%. I check my miners the next morning, they have like 1,000 units of ore and have stopped because the ore shifted again.....So not only did I lose a full two days of resources, I wasted 15k to move the dumb miners. Lets get to the bottom here! I have one last question:

Why do they have weekly shifts anyway? What purpose do they *really* serve for gameplay?

Is it simply to make some fancy resources (needed for fancy weapons) ultra-rare? If that is the only reason, then I would have suggested that they placed those resources on Endor and Dathomir -- making them challenging to get!

Weekly shifts simply mean I have to log on each day! I DONT WANT TO HAVE TO PLAY SWG EVERY SINGLE DAY! (So emails telling me of resource shifts is not good enough!)

If resources have to shift each week, make it on Saturday Afternoon -- so I know I have to log on at THAT time and play. Arrrghh! I have a life IRL and a job IRL and a wife IRL! I don't want to have to play SWG every day! Help!

I'm with this guy.. it seems like each day one thing or another fades out and the first chunk of my time is spent RUNNING from harv to harv, then finding a new spot, then placing them/paying them. Its not that I mess up and put them on a spot thats about to run dry, its that I spend more time surveying and running around than I do crafting and exploring. I would just like them all to move on the same day at the same time. You can suprise me with the day, I dont care. Just let me be a harv slave for ONE day then play the game for a few.. not the first half of each session messin around with those things. Its too muchlike REAL WORK.
