Thread: pricing of experimented harvesters
Actually I run a very sucuessful side business in real life. I would also point out that my business in SWG is working wonderfully. I enjoy this topic, becasue it is somehting I knowvery much about.
Ropok, as I said, I do acknowledge that I could be making money a little faster ( in some cases ) selling some resources, but that is not what I love doing. I love sales, finished product sales.
I love providing my customers with a product and they say "WOW, I am buying everything from you form now on!". I have PA's that are continually repeat customers and I just had an offer from a PA that is starting a town, over 16 total large, medium and small houses ordered for 3 weeks from now. ( fortunately with some time for me to complete them ) I have been having a blast doing this. So far in SWG I have been tremendously successful at it and have funded my entire PA and all its members to master.
Finally now I am starting to keep some of the money I make. Im not bragging, anyone can do what I have done, and I am sure there are architects that have been more successful than I have. I have no problem with that either.
Thanks for the response.
Because I know I am a rather controversial poster, I have known this from the beginning. What I have to say is about businesses being competitive like they are in the real world. My Forum name is a hold over from other games. Some people ( obviously ) are going to be VERY upset by what I have to say, because my characters focus is NOT about the architect profession as a whole, but about providing a service to my customers which are my life blood.
My character does not advertise, he doesn’t post on the server board he belongs too, he never sits in town and hawks his wares, my vendor cannot be found on the planetary map. He never offers a lower price to someone that is in the process of buying from someone else. All of my advertising is by word of mouth by my customers.
The last thing I need is some of the less mature on these forums showing up and bad mouthing my characters character because of the opinions I state on these forums, he lives and dies by his impeccable reputation with his customers on his server. It is the only form of advertising he uses.
Actually it is most likely he is a troll. Trolls have no basis for providing such things because they only seek to irritate others.
I would also note that, for someone whom purportedly runs a business IRL, your tactics are both self-defeating and unrealistic. I have done many things in life, including the operation of stores and engineering work, and I find your manner of business to be foolish. If you ran your purported business this way in real life, you must be in a *very* small town. Your style of business (let's call it ultra thrift) would be under constant attack from Home Depot, et al. You would be unable to compete with a conglomerate like that. Oh and if you were small town, then you would be unable to price the way you pretend. In short your business model is not viable, in-game or out.

This is the biggest indicator that you have no business as I have never seen a successful business that doesn't advertise. Oh in my grandfather's day you could do such a thing, but then there wasn't any McDonalds, and the only "Superstores" were Sears. In my day you had to get advertising to supplement word of mouth. My uncle today, who runs the family business, has a large advertising budget to go along with word of mouth. Mind you he is exalted by his customers.

You can't badmouth what isn't real. Your supposed architect isn't real. Your prices aren't real. Your only purpose on these boards is immature trolling. I've read enough of your contradictory messages. The only thing you bleat repeatedly is that it costs "less than 1 credit per resource" and even the amount less varies. Oh you also bleat how you make money, but with no verification. People like you exist only for strife.
I problay should not bother to such as you but some of your other points did make me laugh.
In my real world business ( I own and oeprate a Hot Air Balloon ) I do advertize, but in SWG I wanted to have fun, I dont like spaming int he cities, I decided not to do that, I wanted to see if I could build a different kind of business, as we are not talking about real money, I can take chances that don have dire conquences, it has been fun.
If any of the conglomerates in SWG wanted to run me out of town they probably could, I agree, but they are not going to get past the same fantasy that affects most people on this board and what this thread was about in the first place. If the big PA actaully heeded my advice they would own architecture in SWG, but they arent going too, they like you ) canot see the forest for the trees. They seen this next sale, they dont see all the pontential sales in the future.
Some of my Balloon company brethern dontagree withmy tether prices which are so much less than the going rate, teather gigs cause a whole lot more ware and tear on a ballon and work for my crew then a free flight does, but a teather generates more free flight sales than any advertizing I could afford. ( realise this is a small sideline business that I do for fun ). The same thing holds for SWG, each sale I make that a customer says "Wow this is a great price for a good unit!" generates more sales for me without having to advertize in other ways.
I am not badmouthing anything anyone else does, it is you that are saying " you either do it like I do it or you are a troll". That is nothing but garbage, you know it, and I know it.
I am glad there are some mature posters on these boards, Posi and Ropock and Angel and I would have to add GMT ( sometimes
) and quite a few others that can disagree civily, that can see past thier own viewpoints, it is they that make this forum worthwhile.
Not the trolls that just scream at anyone that does things different than they do. It is by trying to understand the viewpoints of those that disagree with us that we learn.
Isnt it though ![]()
It isreally a blast but rather expensive to get started in, but is its in fact, the safest Air sport ( sport not comercial air transport ). I always tell people that I will take Politicans for free as long as they look up when they talk, depending on the fatso factor of course.
Something struck me though, a parallel to SWG, would I quit flying and just sell propane for a living if I had a limited supply of it ( like SWG ) that I could sellfor more moneythan I use to fly people?
The answer is no, because I love flying and love the service I provide my customers. Same thing in SWG.
Yes and reading your posts would make me laugh, if there were actual humour in them.

Has been? It's not fun anymore? Incidentally advertising is more than city spamming, but then since you have "a loyal customer base" you don't have to. Oh wait, we've never had any proof you sell anything. We don't even have proof you're an architect.
"If any of the conglomerates in SWG wanted to run me out of town they probably could, I agree, but they are not going to get past the same fantasy that affects most people on this board and what this thread was about in the first place. For someone filled with metaphors, bespeaking a general education (would you like fries with that) you seem to think people are shortsighted. I hereby call you on the fact that *you* cannot see the forest. You claim others are shortsighted, yet you sell things for less than the resources sell for? Considering that I can make more in one day, with happy customers, than you make in a weekend shows you to be shortsighted. Your arguments deny logic.
"Some of my Balloon company brethern dont agree with my tether prices which are so much less than the going rate, teather gigs cause a whole lot more ware and tear on a ballon and work for my crew then a free flight does, but a teather generates more free flight sales than any advertizing I could afford. So your "business" is a sideline. That explains your (lack of) business sense. I, on the other side of the coin, must provide full-time work for employees (including benefits) which means at best you're a dilettante. Incidentally, my customers compliment me also, I just make more.
"I am not badmouthing anything anyone else does, it is you that are saying " you either do it like I do it or you are a troll". That is nothing but garbage, you know it, and I know it."
Actually you ridicule everyone who sells for any cpu higher than yours. You've told people that selling for anything more is ridiculous. So you are badmouthing people. You twist facts and statements by people. That, Dayln, makes you a board troll.
"I am glad there are some mature posters on these boards, Posi and Ropock and Angel and I would have to add GMT ( sometimes ) and quite a few others that can disagree civily, that can see past thier own viewpoints, it is they that make this forum worthwhile."

Oh no, you're more insidious. You're the guy who smiles while insulting. I have yet to see any justification for behaviour such as yours. You remind me of all those middle managers I try to get replaced when I get a contract. Boy do their IT guys really love me after that. Double-talking, mischevious, backstabbing, tail-kissing twits who deserve nothing they have received. Of course many people have gotten things they don't deserve, for one you get more attention than your comments are worth.
As I said, some of the less mature cannot handle an opposing view very well.
The choices I made for my character in SWG is about my having fun, I wondered if I could build a strong word of mouth business, I can and have. I wondered if I could build a successful business based on customer value rather than the process thatmost ( not all ) others use, I can and have. I wondered if I could succeed while most ( not all mind you ) architects said I would totally fail, I can and have.
I could care less what you believe or don’t believe.
Iam just another ws board jumping so dontplace to much weight on what i say.
I would like to raise my hat for you Dayln. If what you say are true (no board/planetary advertising and no spaming in towns and still have tons of orders from people). Not many would be able to pull it off.
Keep selling att pricesthat are profitable for you and not what others say you to.

Dayln, you're an idiot if you think none of those things add value to our product. especially since you are selling the most valuable equipment in the game. if i go run 20k crdit missions all day on dathomir i can make about 1 mil a day. if i lay 10 heavies extract rate 10 (70%) on an uber mineral that weaponsmiths would kill for (and there is always at least one that will go for at least 7 per unit) i can make the same with less work.
the fact is this. we use bulk minerals, and the average selling price on the market for minerals is 3:1. at least on sunrunner it is. that means my product should be priced no lower than 3:1, and SHOULD be priced at 4:1. if i sell out of 10 rated harvies (say 20 deeds) in 24hrs, that means they are priced too low for such a high demand and i need to raise my price to 5:1, or 6:1. how do you think it came to pass that scout blasters went from 3k-5k to 8k-10k? demand was high, prices NEED to go up. get your head out of your arse and be a part of an actual economy, ya goober.
MorDan, you're entirely wrong.
If I lay down a fusion or two, and some heavy harvesters on a good vein, I end up with a cost of about .1 to .3 CPU to gather up those resources, as well as get back some radio for later use. That means it costs me .1 credits to .3 credits for each unit of resource I pull up. So now, I have a stack of resources that - TO BREAK EVEN - I would need to sell for .1 to .3 credits. If I sell that for anything more, I'm making a profit.
So, if I turn around and sell a heavy harvester for 1:1 on the resource count (say it's 30k resources, and I sell it for 30k). I'm making anywhere from 10x to 3x profit (remember the .1 to .3). I invest 10k and get 30k back (on the .3 model).
So sure, you're price comparison'ing to what the resources sell for on the market, but that's not the true marker for profit. You need to calculate how much it costs you to gather those resources, and then you'll know whether YOU are making a profit or not.
For the unfortunate architects who buy their resources, their profit margins will always need to be higher than the architect who spends the time to find high % veins and harvs the heck out of them.
