Thread: Decay Poll

If you do structure decay I think there should be a way to just pop another deed into structure management terminal so that they dont have to replace the house + furniture.
Someone explain to me what the point of being a Crafter is if you can not rely on repeat business. I cancelled my account weeks ago but Sony was nice enough to bill me anyway so I still have forum access. Ive been reading this topic and I just do not understand why so many crafters are againt an idea that will make sure they have someone to sell to.
I was a Master Artisan and just a few boxes away from Master Architect and could not sell enought items to keep harvesters running or buy materials to continue to craft. So what is the point? I was not a crafter to run missions to pay for things I was a crafter to CRAFT !!!!!
Decay can be introduced in many forums. Nothing needs to permentaly disappear but something needs to be done to insure that people return to crafters to buy things.

I've gone up the architect tree while working on my otherclasses and I've just made my first large house to great joy. I plan to make a few other things to satisfy whatever needs I may have in the foreseeable future before I am forced to start dropping the skills to get the points back for my other desired classes. If the things I have made will decay then I'll have to drop the other skills again in order to raise this again and that's a nasty circle that I don't want to get into. I've gone up the architect tree so I can stand back and say "hey, look what I did" with a big grin on my face. It's was a goal that I set myself and now I've nearly accomplished it I can start looking at the rest of what the game has to offer. I have great pride in what I've managed to build and I don't want to see it just go to waste.
I've also hunted the galaxy for furniture and managed to obtain some of the rarer items around which I show off in my house. Keep adding new content and I'll keep buying (if that's an issue here). No need to make something decay that's rarely used... and how long does furniture last in real life using modern materials any way.. a few hundredyears or is it thousands ??
If structures were modular and say, for instance, the power generator decayedand I had to replace it then that's a different story all together.

It will significantly decrease the demand for both furniture and structures. When most players feel that there is no reason to own a home, much less decorate it with furniture, we need to concentrate on finding ways to expand our market, not bleed a shrinking customer base.

I think it would be nuts to have structures decay, especially harvesters and factories since we already pay high prices on maintanance and power cost to operate them. Also the cost to purchase large harvesters is already very costly and with the constant change of resource locations we have to deed and relocate these harvesters while paying costs to redeed them.
Basically doing structure decay would mean the following on harvesters.
Cost of purchasing Harvester
Pay Maintanance - money
Power - money to harvest
Relocate harvester whenlocations change- Money to redeed ex. 4500 credits for large harvester.
Decaying harvester is destroyed.
Start all over.
This will kill most the crafting skills plus raise the costs to buy these from architects since they have to worry about thier items decaying and what it costs them in the long run.
/agree Structure Decay however --
An idea was put across in another thread I thought had some validity. The idea that maintenance costs should go up as a structure ages has some real promise to creating a happy medium on this issue. It also has real-world credibility. Rather than senario 1, The Poltergiest Decay, where the house simply vanishes after a set amount of time ("Well Honey, the house is 6 months old, hurry and get the furniture before it gets sucked into the cosmic vortex with the odd socks."), this idea makes logical sense. The house gets older, it gets more expensive to repair. More parts start breaking down, the foundation starts to sink, water damage on the walls from the rain every 15 minutes on Naboo, etc. ("Honey, I want to move, the cracks in the plaster from your fight with that Wookie as getting bigger, the plumbing is starting to rattle, and those plasma burns on the floor in Billy's room just wont come up..."). After all a 150 year old house (like the one I LIVE in) costs a hell of a lot more to maintain and repair than a 5 year old home. Instead of the devs (and the game) deciding to just destroy your house after a time limit, YOU decide when your sick of paying excessive maintenance costs on your home. Our customers get control over when they decide to buy their new house, or if they want to keep paying the higher and higher costs to maintain it, they can choose not to move/buy a new house at all. This should probubly be capped based on the size and complexity of the structure, so we don't have small Naboo houses with 1.2 million credit a week repair bills. SOME REAL CONSIDERATION NEEDS TO BE GIVEN TO THIS IDEA PLEASE.
/disagree Furniture Decay (this is getting TOO real world)

I have been a Master Architect since the second week of launch. I am sick of making the same boring stuff, especially when I see really cool plants and furniture in cities, cantinas, and starports.
Give us NEW/more Schemetics!!!!

I feel if we have structure decay then people won't be to upset about us repairmen coming to make a house call. But I think we will see a lot of angry people if we tell them that their furniture is gonna all need repaired in a few months.
