If I am understanding you correctly, the problem occurs when you are practicing on an item rather than completing it. I figured this out a couple days ago and it is really, really annoying. Anyway, to reproduce the bug:

Craft an item and select the practice option when creating the prototype. (This item should not be an item the finishes quickly.)

You now have an item in one crafting station being finished up. Before it is finished, open up another crafting session (in another crafting station of course) and start going through it, but don't finish it up.

You will notice that when the prototype that is being practiced on gets completed your new crafting window dies and you lose all resources you put into the item as well.

The moral of the story - Until the bug is fixed you have 2 options:
1) If you practice on something, make sure it is completely finished before starting the next item.
2) Don't practice on anything and just destroy items that would've practiced on. (This is what I do so I don't have to wait for stuff to complete before starting on my next component.)

Hope this helps,
Jiist

this is a real bug and you are not nuts. It only happens with GENERAL crafting tools for some reason. if you watch it close you will notice it ends right as the first tool finishes. This is when not using a macro but just maybe crafting a few things one after the other with a few tools instead of waiting for the other to output.

It sucks, good news is the speial tools dont have that problem.

"It only happens with GENERAL crafting tools for some reason."

I am not sure if the bug you are referring to is the same one I am referring to, but the one I am referring to also occurs with the Weapon, Droid, etc. crafting tool. I haven't tested it with the other crafting tools, so I don't know their status.

I can confirm that this "bug" doesn't affect the Wearables crafting tool. I was making armor layers last night, and failed on some experiments along the way (sigh), so just decided to dump them by hitting practice. I have a whole toolbar row of Wearables tools, but crafting along I experienced no problems.

This is a known bug. It will probably be #1 or #2 in the Artisan Top 5 Issues.

Use the following macro if you want to complete an item in practice mode and avoid this bug:

/nextCraftingStage;
/nextCraftingStage;
/nextCraftingStage;
/createPrototype practice no item;
/createPrototype practice no item;

Yes, I use THREE nextCraftingStage commands. Why? Because it always works. You can use this next to a crafting station or out in the wild and it works either way.

No, I do not use this macro for AFK-macroing, nor do I really need to put it in a loop. I use it for assembling wall modules! I'm going to post my thoughts on loop-grinding and such in a bit. In short: loop-grinding is ok but a waste of time. AFK macros are bad and I'm going to try and make it so that there is NO INCENTIVE to use them.

I am not sure why this is happening...I was out sampling in a camp site, and while i'm kneeling sampling resources, i was also crafting items. Problems is that crafting sessions would suddenly stop,crafting window would close by iteselfand sometimes i would lose resources without any items made. This doesn't happen everytime, but enough to make things frustratiing.

Has anyone encountered this?

thanks

Are you running a crafting macro?

If so, it might be a macro that gives you only a certain amount of time to put in the resources. If you fail to do so, it will end the crafting session ('crafting session has ended') and you will lose the resources you put in.

If it says 'You are already crafting' it is probably because:

1. If you are running a macro the macro uses a crafting tool before the current crafting tool has finished

2. You accidently pushed a hotkey for a crafting tool.

i think i know this bug, and it has been mentioned elsewhere.

if you use one crafting tool to make something, but before its deposited the item in your inventory (the countdown timer period) you open a second tool and begin using it, when the first tool is finished you get the crafting session has ended message, lose the materials and dont get the item.

if thats what what you mean then yes its known about and its affects do vary a little. myself i only get it using the generic crafting tools, or when im using the droid/weapon/general tool in practice mode.
