Thread: Who do you think will build the Ships for the space expanshion?
Forgot to say, a fully equipped ship should need components from all sorts of crafters, WS for the guns, AS for the shields, DE for the droids we are all familiar with from StarWars, but now I start to worry, what comes from Architects if the actual ship is built by a new discipline? Are we going to be left out of SE in the same way we are now from GCW? If that happens then I am going to leave the profession as I suspect will so many others, this would be the final straw.
Dvnce, you know a bit of what is going on, or at least you hint on 'exciting developments' for our profession. Do you have any idea of how we will fit into SE? will we have a MEANINGFUL and fulfilling role, or are you in the dark on this one?
Pawlin and Dvnce had an exchange the last few days discussing optimism vs pessimism.
I guess you could say right now my glass is half empty,
I want somebody to come along and make it half full ![]()
Knowing SOE, they will probably require a quest acquired, limited use schematic, and NS leathers for the pilot's seat...

Man, dont give them any ideas
Well, I have a feeling that it is either going to be Master Artisans who make the ships, or else a new profession that requires Master Artisan as a base profession.
Of course I'm not certain. But didn't the devs say something in the Space information page about these ships opening up the market for Artisans? Unless they meant the more general definition of "artisan" meaning "crafters".
Anyway. It is entirely possible that the new ship designer profession will simply branch off of Engineering 4 like most of the other craft professions. But I'm still thinking that it's going to branch off of Master Artisan. My reasoning here is simply beacause Vehicles are at Master Artisan. And a Speeder seems a lot like a tiny space ship to me. So it would only make sense that a Speeder is a sort of pre-requesite to building a ship.
On a side note.... (kind of):
I also have a suspicion that the new professions are going to have their own points system. Meaning... you will not have to use points out of your current 250 point bank, but instead a new skill advance system will be implemented to go along with the new expansion. That way people can do both things.... space or land.
If that's the case, and they use a new skill point system, then it's very conceivable that the new ship designer will also fall into this new points system... which will be cool.
Ladylea,
I believe he is using the more general term artisan. Any crafter has to have novice artisan, and I tree up it maxed out. I believe SOE uses the term artisan where we use the term crafter.

I'm with you on this Leala. I believe the space specific professions like Pilot (if that is to be one) will take a special set of space expansion skill points. No reason not to as those skills will only be effective in space. Only reason it would take regular skill pionts is if you got some sort of benefit on the ground from it.
Crafting on the other hand helps in both situations. So I wouldn't be surpised if the new crafting profession takes away from our alloted 250 points. This would actually help in a way. It would break up the current crafting professions and cause people to really think on what they want to do. Continue with the old ways or jump on the new, potentially enormous cash cow.
I wouldn't be surprised if there are some kind of limited use schematics, at least for the factional craft. They said something like there'd be certain restrictions on certain craft (they said something like only those of a certain rank could fly certain craft), so I wouldn't be surprised if they excercise that restriction by making a player buy the schem from a recruiter :/
Of course, we can always hope that "we" (as in whoever makes the craft) can craft any vessel, and it's the pilots duty to get required rank.
My guesses on the new professions are:
Ship Engineer
Ship Weaponsmith
Starfighter Pilot
Transport Pilot
As to who will build the ships, that one is easy, Mon Cals of course. I mean who would be stupid enough to buy a ship made by a lowely human![]()
