Thread: Who plans on becoming a starship builder?

I'm already in the process of dropping Architect. It was a fun ride, but I think the market is dead. By the time the SE comes out, I'll probably be tired of WS as well. I'm sure I'll give ship builder a try.

I have to say I was a bit dismayed when I saw you getting into the heavy harv business. I sent all my medium harv customers to your shop, since I quit carrying them long ago. I don't know if there's enough room for both you and I selling heavies these days, so I'm bowing out.

But I'd jump at the chance to work on ships with you. I really do hope building them will be a massive process involving many professions. I'd be disappointed if it was just a one profession product.

Uhhhh, hell no. Putting the three land vehicles in MA was a copout. I hope that the space expansion adds more land vehicles into the ship builder profession. Land vehicles that can be upgraded and customized.

Besides, you obviously haven'tbeen reading everything that's been posted around here. They've already stated there will be at least 15 space vehicles to start. Hit the home page. Read the press releases.

Personally, I'll be keeping Architect. While I'd love to build starships, I see 4 out of 5 crafters shifting when the Space Expansion comes out, and am looking forward to a more balanced market in the professions I already have.

Not that I forsee shipbuilders having quite the problem Architects did (do). If ships are as customizable as they are indicating, you'll finally see some real marketplace diversity out there. Hopefully, they'll eventually do that for the other crafters. (Different facades and floorplans, anyone?)

Also, I realize I may be in the minority, but I'd be happy if SOE gave us few if any additional skill points. Depending on your focus, you can now master two or three professions and still have a few points left over to dabble here and there. As much as I'd LIKE to be able to craft every type of item in the game myself, I'm quite happy having to go to someone else for a new pistol. He comes to me when he needs a new harvestor.

Looking at the most likely scenario, Ship Engineer will essentially cost the same points as Arch or AS or WS branching off Engineering. Having said that the points are there to go:

Master Artisan/Master Architect/Master Ship Engineer/3-4-0-4 Merchant

Sounds like my path, as hell will freeze over 10 times before the devs make Master Merchant anything more than a joke and the electronics through Master Artisan are not going away. I Just find it funny as hell that you have to learn how to cook and sew in Domestic Arts in order to make electronics. Geez.

Seeing as how I will be in the beta, I may do both Architect and Starship Builder depending on how the skill point thing works out. From the sounds of it, the larger ships (YT-1300's for example) will allow the player to move around in them. If that's the case, one may also be able to furnish it as one would a home. If I flew my own YT-1300,I'd easily toss in a few metal chairs, circular couches, and maybe a bed for an added RP feel to it, throw in some data terminals and you're all set. It'll also be advantageous for architects as we need to mine lots of metals and ore as it is, so we could get right to the ship building and not bother with gathering the resources unless the ships require some rare metal which spawns once every six months.

Im currently Master Artisan, Master Architect, Master Tailor and 3/4/0/4 Merchant. When pub 8 comes out, i'll change merchant to 4/4/0/3 since I don't need the extra vendor or sign. Once SE comes out, i'll drop Tailor for Space Engineer (unless they increase our skill points)

With 3 characters, I can do a good varity of professions, so I'll eventually get all 4 of the new professions.

lol hopefully not...most craftsman earn Master artisan on accident....it would take 2 seconds for 99% of the crafters to become MA

Well I hope that we don't have to learn a new beginning profession as well as a new elite profession in order to build them.

I just watched video of aJump To Lightspeed space battle. Man, there are going to be some crying Rebs and Imps over the loss of their star ships when those PvP battles start taking place. I wonder just how expensive these babies are going to be? I would like to set up some contracts with some Reb PAs right now!

I'll most likely become a shipbuilder. Unless things change there is really no future in Architect. Plus building ships will help me avoid paying the high price the initial rush will cause hehehe.

Personally, I'd balance what I'd have to to give starship building a try, even if it's just for the sake of building myself an X-wing or something to have some fun. It would be great if we could get some additional skill points to work with.

The big thing would be if we could do like someone was hoping in a previous post and store items on ships. Space RVing would be great. We'll have a whole sub-population of vagabonds and gypsies going from planet to planet.

Probably going to drop Arch in a heart beat. Depends on the changes made to it in the comming months and if it has any part in the SE at all.

Hehe, I am also hoping that the new shipbuilding profession will have a positive side effect for those who wish to stay as a traditional architect. My hope is that starships should take mass quantities of resources (surely they have to!), with massive demand for these resourcesmore resource gatherers and sellers, who need more harvesters, which in turn needresources. The falling price of resources will turn around ( ), the demand will rise ( ) and the demand for harvesters will be revitalised ( ) and miners needing these harvesters will happily pay 250k+ for a medium as they know there is still good profit in it ( )
