OK let me ask you this. If I was to use2 handmamde DSS's, 2 handmade MSS, and 5 DSC's all from different factory runs and then made a station schematic, which serial number should be on the schematic?

Well you can't use 2 hand experimented Ore Mining units to make a heavy mineral harvester. So why should you be able to use handmade parts to make crafting stations?

Because in order to make a heavy mineral harvestor, the recipe requires 2 identical OMU's. You wouldn't be able to make the schematic.

Ya and I'm saying that the problem is the fact that Crafting stations require similar items and tehy should in fact require identical items. Thats the "oops" on the part of the DEVs and thats what should be fixed. Its an oops cause people can exploit it.

I don't don't recall the DEVs commenting on this so its just assumption / speculation to say that this is how it is intended to work.

Isn't it speculation to call this an exploit?

What I am saying is that for every item in the game where similar instead of identical subcomponents are used, the schematic you make will not have a subcomp serial number and any subcomp can be used. This is the game mechanic that is working the way it is intended.

As for the stations, it is easy to figure out why they are this way. Experimenting didn't always effect them (even though looking at old stations from befor ethis change, you can see different ratings so experimenting and resources did make a difference, we just didn't know it.)

I wouldn't call anybody a cheater if they used this to their advantage. It just disappoints me that the devs have overlooked this. I spent literally days scouring every resource vendor in the galaxy searching for high quality polymer and ore to supplement my small supply. It just seems wrong to me that an item which has experimented qualities doesn't require those same qualities when built in a factory. We can't use crap copper in the final schematic and get a 43+ station, why should be able to use crap subcomps?

Ok ok, ya we're just both voicing our differing opinions and neither of us know for sure. I should have said "in my opinion" about 3-4 more times above.

I guess we can all define exploit as: If I use it then its not an exploit. If I don't use it and dislike it then it is an exploit.

No seriously, what is an exploit? Using a bug to an unfair advantage. Well to know if something is an exploit we have to know if its a bug. Sometimes its not at all clear if something is a bug or if its the way things are supposed to work. Anyone seen a bug list lately? I sure haven't.

And how come we don't get compensated for bugs that make our life harder? Remember when factories wouldnt remove subcomponents from crates if there was no serial number in the schematic? Then they changed the way crates worked so dbl-clicking caused you to split the crate instead of remove an item. In order to do a run of ten stations at that time, I had to remove 90 items from their crates and put them in my hoppers one at a time. It was an exercise in tedium and frustration.

That is hardly the point here afaik.

The issue here iswhat the gripe was withwhat the original author said: Wohoo, I can make Uber stations using a bug! Bow to me!

Still he could/can at one point make atleast one uber component so /bow for that. But to mass produce it due to a bug is just silly if anyone is doing that.

And dont deny that it is a bug, that is just means to justify it for yourself, admit you too would have cried wolf if you were on the "low" side of things...

Actually the original poster that started this thread said he'd be able to make the +44 stations until he ran out of the good ore he's using. HIs words were: "and will dry up as soon as old rare ore being used is gone" You can infer from that that he is not using the exploit. Someone else questioned why he'd need the good ore cause all you have to do is use the exploit and therefore not need to have a stock of the good quality material.

What does running out of ore have anything to do with it? Crafting stations require copper and any old sub-components. You only need the 'uber' sub-comps when making the schematic.

Not everyone exploits you know. Though after the nerf to droid storage I am tempted to.

Wow, I didn't realize my little self-righteous comment would spark this multi-page monstrosity. Poor Salokin. Wonder if he's even been back to see this strange turn his little thread took.

So, I suppose now wouldn't be a good time to mention that when these new crafting experimentation changes go in, everybody and their dog will be able to make +45s and all the work we've done hoarding these rare resources will be useless....
