Well... You could always consider the critical failures as a boon to get people to drive their prices up... Like that's gonna happen.

Oh yeah? Did you every try World War II Online? Now that was a bad game (excellent idea, poor execution). AO was bad, but WWII Online was much worse.

If i do not recieve a response from the dev team, or fail on one more factory, This game is over for me. flame all you want, all they have to do is release a good statement about it, and i might stick around, but they cant even do that. I have had it. there are many other enjoyable games out there.

I spent over a week working on a structure, and it failed. I lost everything. tell me that is fun. tell me that i should be paying 15 dollars a month for that.

note: it happened again today, so that is 2 major items that havae botched for me. too much work, too little pay. over...out.

A couple of points in response to all this:

1) I've never failed on anything bigger than a wall unit, andI made it to furniture 3 before I went above installations or housing 1 (at 3 & 4 now). Maybe you need to find a master artisan with some good copper to make you some 90%+ tools and station. Maybe you need to use different resources with high unit toughness. Maybe there's something else going on. I can't say. But not everyone is having your failure problems, so perhaps you are doing something less than optimally (to paraphrase Raph).

2) I have a blast playing architect. it's not hard for it to be fun, it's just not going to be fun for everyone. That's the best thing about this game. You don't have to make a new character and start completely over just because you want to switch professions. Unlearn skill works great I'm told.

3) I'm not a casual gamer. I play 2-3 hours a night, and twice that on weekends. I'm very successful as an architect (just broke the 400k credits mark). But if I were only able to play 3 nights a week, I would not be an architect. Requires too many resources. What I'd do instead is make friends with someone who wanted to play miner and I'd buy my resources from them and be a DE or WS, or maybe a chef.

4) We all had expectations of this game. Ever since I heard that there would be tailors and cooks, I dreamt of opening a clothing store. Then I got into beta and learned how it would really work. No shops in the city, novendors unless you become a merchant, tailoring is sort of boring in my opinion, etc. So once it went retail, I switched from a tailor to an architect, and I'm glad I did. Learn to adjust your expectations and play within the limits of the game. Every game has limitations, and if you can't live with them, then by all means leave.

personally think that the one forward one diagonal move of a rook in chess is unfair.

It is a knight that moves that way. It would be unfair if a rook moved like that.

No matter how painful, crit fails are not bugs, there is nothing to fix. If you read the posts here you'll find all sorts of anecdotal "evidence" that making master increases crits or climbing the furniture ladder increases crits or even not climbing the furniture ladder increases crits. When it comes to real evidence it would appear to support the idea that crits are entirely random, not based on your skills or even the materials used in the combine, just dumb luck. Its not unfair, we all face the same odds of seeing them, any of us can be hit on a PA or other large combine.

I say rather than give up, or just cry, after a major failure, plan ahead for them before they happen. Stockpile resources and credits, run factory jobs to reduce component crits, charge enough for your products to cover the losses... there are lots of things that we can do to lessen the impact when the crits come, and they WILL come. While painful they serve a very valid purpose to the class, they distinguish successful architects from the unsuccessful. If you quit clearly you will fall into that second category as was intended.

I think maybe you might try a different profession?

I play quite a bit more than a "casual" gamer would but maybe architect isn't suited to your temperment? It seems to require a bit of patience. I myself was dead set on Master Ranger and as I have played I have shifted slowly away from that. In fact last week I was crafting something and up popped "You now qualify for Novice Architect".

What the heck I figured and gave it a shot. Made a few houses no problem and realized that this was the profession for me instantly. Have loved it ever since. Don't take this the wrong way but have you thought of trying other things?

""LoL I doubt anything will ever be as bad as AO..."

LOL! WW2OL was a nightmare in its first months. It's badness was the stuff of legend. But out of fairness it'spretty good now what 2+ years later. It's what I play when I'm not here. Highly recommended if you like squad level action.

AOisthe most incredibly boring game I've ever played, save maybe AC2 with E&B a close runner up.

But SWG rocks. Even when it pisses you off. Admit it. Imagine what it will be like in 2 years. A MMORPG is a long term investment. Savor it.

By the way, I just popped over to Shadowbane and they've got a bug that's causing whole towns to get whacked. Now THAT'S FUNNY:

"

  • CCRs will NOT replace specific buildings if those were the only assets lost due to a bug.

  • CCRs will ONLY replace towns when the ToL has disappeared due to a bug.

  • CCRs will ONLY re-rank town assets to a MAXIMUM OF Rank 3 when rebuilding a town lost to a bug.

These replacement rules will only remain in place until this bug is completely fixed. Once the bug is fixed, we will return to our "no-replacement" policy. We apologize to our customers for the problems and inconvenience this bug has caused, and we appreciate your patience and support."
