Thread: Top 5 Candidate: How things are working and how they should...

My largest frustration as an architect is I have no way to really create something different than all of the other architects. We can all make BER13's, etc....but there is no way we have to really distinguish ourselves.

I would love to be able to hunt/find some 'special sauce' items that I can add to my schematics that give me a chance to make something really different. Something along the line of hunt/find a "alien ore mechanism" that allows me to get to BER of 14-20 based on some random code. That way we would have to find it and still have a chance of not maxing out at BER 20 on everything.

My two cents.

The way things work now...

I make a schematic for a Micro Sensor Suite. It uses 3 parts. The parts are: Control Unit, Elec. GP and Energy Distr. I made 2 Control Units. One named Control Unit 85% and one called Control Unit 99%. I used the Control Unit 99% in the schematic for the Micro Sensor Suite. But when I look at the schematic for the MSS, I see "Control Unit". The generic name of the item. I have no way to know what control unit it takes.

The way it used to be...

Schematics made before Publish 4 would read "Control Unit 95% (Serial Number)". This was not the generic name, but the name I gave the item. Made it nice to know what part I needed for that schematic. Also the serial number was listed.

The way it should be...

Something needs to be restored to the listing of items needed in a schematic. If the serial number only is included (like it was back before publish 2), then I have to examine my crates of parts to see which ones to use. The best solution is to return to the player made name that was given to the item. This would allow me to look at the name on my crates to tell what items go in that schematic.

I have brought this up many times. So far no attention at all has been given to my pleas to fix this. It's been treated as a non-issue by all previous architect corespondants. Can I get some kind of acknowledgement that you understand my pain will at least mention this to the devs?

Thanks in advance.

Hey, I am glad we finally got a new correspondant yay! I have one suggestions for you and I think it is a worth while thought. I was thinking about the ever growing problem of storage especially for our profession with the amount of resouces and components needed for certain structures. I along with probably you, have many houses to store these things. So i cam up with an idea for a "warehouse" which of course would be beneficial to our profession, as a new item. However, there is a catch to it, we architects get to decide how many plots it takes up. Along with this, as the # of plots it uses increases, the storage also increase. So that 1 plot might equaly 75 and 4 might equal 300. We can say that there is a max of maybe 6 plots it can use, but i think this idea will be beneficial for our profession, and many others. Please let me know what you think in a respone thank you again for being the new correspondent and taking the time to read this

All I can say is if a master architect can afford to use 6 lots up in a warehouse, he must have two or three accounts. Unless we get more lots, I don't see how this helps those of us who like to stay IC and not cross-character just so we can survive in a profession.

"Though its not practical for a person to be able to carry1 million units of a reasource I think it would solve alot of storage and database problems if we overlooked that and allowed resources to stack that high.."

I think it would solve more database problems if they reintroduced the Miner profession so that Miners and maybe Architects were the only ones with that many resources on them.

One of my biggest gripes:

How it is: Use the best materials you can get your hands on. Spend days making the highest quality components. Put them together, and fail on the final experimentation so you end up with a piece of junk.

How it should be: Use the best materials you can get your hands on. Spend days making the highest quality components. Put them together and your result is based upon the quality of your components.

How is the housing I put around mydrillgoing to affect my drill rate? How is it going to affect how much my bins can hold? If I use top-notch components, I should expect top-notch results.

If I put a great engine into a car, the back seat isn't going to affect how fast the thing goes.

Failure and experimentation on components, not the end results!

Not too many people pull kimos, rancors and vehicles out their butts either. You're right, it is a game.
