Thread: Here is the pricing I have to deal with on Starsider.
Whoops.
That means I've been run out of business. I mostly only craft for myself or for members of our village of Oz.
I rarely sell structures and when I do, it's at full price. Those sales keep me in the black. I'll make as much money off of one of my sales as the lowballers do with 4-5. The rest of the time I help out our village residents or just enjoy the game and go exploring. When I don't feel like crafting at all for a while, I just sell the resources.
You'll also notice most people selling cheap are still trying to climb the Architect tree. They're shooting mostly for the experience. Once you reach Master, that changes, and the only thing you are left with is the risk of critical failures. Lowballing your way up the tree is basically mortgaging your own future if you want to stay an Architect.
There's nothing like a nice critical failure on the final assembly of a PA hall or heavy harvester. That's exciting watching all the resources go poof. How many harvesters you gotta sell at lowball prices to compensate for just one critical failure?
It's simply not worth my time and effort to compete at those prices. Therefore, I willingly concede the market to the lowballers for as long as they last. I'll even refer customers to you if you want.
May the farce be with you.

He used to sell stuff as an archetect, he has quit, why, becasuse some people are willing to sell at a lower profit margin than he is willing too.
That is what running someone out of business is.
hehe by this standard I guess I must have quit too. I used to "sell" stuff and now I've quit. I have millions in the bank because I didn't price my goods like some Sam Walton wannabe fool too stupid to understand how a closed SWG economy doesn't mimic a real life economy, so there is no need for me to "sell" anything now.
I make things for folks who ask and are willing to pay my price, give it away free or very cheap to my PA members, but I don't "sell". I'll leave the "sell"ing to discount folks with delusions of grandeur. I've got better things to do with my time than stroke my ego by convincing myself that selling discount products for less than the resources are worth will make me famous in an online game if only I can sell enough of them before the market is fully saturated and no one cares who I am anymore, heh.
I just wish I was on Naritus so I could show you that Sam Walton dynamic in action. Would be fun to run your business into the ground just like you've done your part to do to the entire class and I have Walmart levels of capital to work with. You keep thinking you've got it all figured out right until someone with enough credits and malice comes along and demonstrates how ol Sam really built his empire.
Tued the Master Builder
The Walmart company while making lots of money, also does plenty of bad things that are good for business. So do you want to be like them?
First off they support child labor in china , and will buy from the cheapest supplier no matter how they treat or mistreat thier employees
Walmart will go out of thier way to fire anyone that even whipsers the word union.
Walmart expects you to log out on your time card and work for free if your shift is up and haven't finished your job yet.
Walmart forces suppliers to cut to what they feel is a good wholesale price or they won't carry your product.
Yes Walmart is a great example of what people will do to get those extra few cents off a product.

No running someone out of business means they can't put food on the table and their kids don't have any clothes. That did not happen. He was still making money at his trade. It's just more cost productive to sell the same resources he was using, instead of selling completed structures.
LOL, oh no, I have seen business run out because they were not willing to compete before. There is no "food on table check" on running someone out of business.
p.s. Those prices are a bit lower than mine right now, but I am willing to compete at that level when I need too.

Feel free to do that. I'll continue to sell at 6.5, selling much less than you, and still making more money. The bulk of my time will go into making Composite armor, where I'll be making crazy profits. I'll wait until you're sick of working for free, and dealing with customers that treat you like crap.
Eventually YOU will be the one quitting Architect, and prices will be more reasonable, and I'll be selling more of them again. You'll never drive me out of business, because I'm simply smarter than you are. You'll only drive yourself out, and the casual players. That makes you an **edit**. In doing business, I never hurt the casual gamer. I supported a couple casual players as my apprentices. You on the other hand, don't care about them, and don't care what your actions are doing.
p.s you shoud read the trehad before responding, I sell for more that this guys competition, but still less than most.
And My customers dont treat me like crap, they treat me very nice and usually tip me after a purchace. ![]()
I have said this before and I will say it again.. if you dont have long term deals with resource dealers you are just killing yourselfs. however if you have people willing to pay 160K for Heavys then great. You see no matter how you slice it if you run a MED harvestor and Solar collector (i know they are not the best but that is part of the point) it will only cost you 0.5 credit per unit of resource on a 75% or greater sources (including redeeding). Now ore is a pain in the butt for the highest minable I have seen where I can place a med or better has been 61% <shrug>. Its a mean little circle here. I need harvestors so you charge me what I have felt is an arm and a leg for them. Then I harvest with them and feel I need to make back my money so I charge you an arm and a leg for my ore. So now my next harvestor is higher priced. What I did was make a long term deal with an architect, she gave me my first 2 meds for a total cost of 15K. In return I had to deliver every other day 5K of ALum and 5K of steel at 1.5 CPU this was a nice little profit for me and nice liitle profite for her in the long run for now she has a steady source of low cost resources.
Now with all that being said, all I care about is the cost to me. I dont care if an architect buys my resources then charge 50CPU on his stuff as long as I dont pay that. Tempest is right in charging what she feels the markets will bear. I charge what I think is fair for my resources but often I offer my steel or alum to archtiect at 1.5 cpu and get told no thank I am fully stocked. This is where MANY architect go wrong I will hold on to it till you cant get that metal anymore and whenthey want it and are desperate for it my price is now 3 to 4CPU. Buy it when it is cheap then horde it. Do what Tempest suggested (if you have the money) buy up all the stock of those selling at cost and resell at your prices.
Now as for there being a ton of young architects out there I agree. good for my business. in order to avoid paying the high prices on harvestors my group decided to have one of us become an architect. Now since we sell to architects and dont want to undercut them we make them final products from doors to harvestors. we rarly sell to the general public. this is because we have long trem contracts with many architects. So even though we can undersell them left and right we dont - that would be bad for business instead they sell our products or use our walls.
So what is the correct prices - what ever the market will bear. How much is enough money - <shrug> that is for you to decide.
PS dont get me started on factories - I have mixed feelings on them and will agree the second they are involved all bets are off for pricing.
Actually, Dayln, nowhere did I say I had quit architect, or I was run out of business. It's amazing how much a little reading of a thread will do. You'll also notice that you are part of the PROBLEM, you're a cankerous growth on architecture. I think of you like a little green patch of skin that needs to be sliced off to save the body. You're just not worth my time to talk to anymore, I'll let the rest of these guys and gals bang you against a wall for awhile. They have SO much more sense in what it means to be an architect than you ever will.
Oh, and I just dare you to post your ingame name on Naritus. Cmon, be a man.
Fool, I wish I had been offered a deal like that on resources, espicially lately. On Starsider almost everything sells for 3 CP/R. I managed to get a supplier to give me a deal at 2.5 CP/R on ore to get me ahead on wall modules, and he's going to keep me supplied, except I'm running out of money with these resource shifts, it may be cheaper to just buy it all. But then I'd have people insulting me about my pricing. I can hear them now...."Here's your resources at 3 CP/R, how much do you charge for a heavy harv? 110k!? I know a guy selling them for 30k, you can take your 4 CP/R and shove it."
Yep, love being an architect. That master title above my head used to mean something. Not it just means sucker.

Vargus add in the costs of having to re-deed miners and the costs of failing on heavys and see how much profit you make. I got over 2 million creds selling at my prices and I have plenty of customers.
I actually do very well. Especially with no advertising. I do enough business to maintain all my structures, as well as get around. Thanks for asking, though. ![]()

Vargus, what are you trying to say by that? Almost every price quoted here is 3-4 CP/R.Are you saying prices should be higher? Now tell the undercutters to stop selling for 1-2 CP/R and we'll all gradually raise our prices, it was working for awhile. *shrug*
Look it's simple. There's two reasons why they undercut in the selling - they have a guild backing them (which is possible, they could be mooching off someone elses resources) or they are building for the fun of it and not as a business. That's all I'm saying. Hobbiest architects could be selling at cost.
