Thread: lowballer scams?

Give up Pawlin - just recognize that people *deeply* need to **edit** and moan and argue about something. If it weren't prices and business practices it would be politics or religion or the best way to cook fish or something - so just accept it.

Yeah, here's my solution:
1. I tell everyone that I'd actually expect to pay that I don't do custom orders
2. Anyone asks me to make something, I refer them to the vendor and e-mail the waypoint.
3. if they insist on a custom order, I tell them I'll make it and put it on my vendor
It's tough to argue prices with a vendor.
If you have a question about pricing, talk to the Vendor 'cos the Trandoshan don't wanna hear it.

That's a nice little story you wrote there. Only a fool would let those type of customer responces influence your sales price. Thou I will say that the initial prices in your story are high.
Mine your own resources if you want to make a good profit.
I sell houses at 8k, 45k, 90k. Exceptions are medium generic 50k. BER10 mediums 34k, BER13 heveys 95k.
Your post sounds like another TROLL for price fixing.
I have characters spread across 5 different servers, 3 of which I play on a fairly regulary basis. On any of there servers I play I would LOVE to see someone selling a BER10 harvester for 34K. Tonight, I bought a BER10 Med Mineral for 55k and was happy about it. I know that the typical price is around that for a high BER harvester. Sure, I could settle for a medium BER5-7 and pay from 15K-30K, but as I need these resources I think that 55k is more than fair. As a matter of fact, I recently paid 164K for a BER14 Fusion and was very happy with that price too. As a consumer, I think that any architect selling a BER10 for under 50k is lowballing themselves. But don't kid yourself, if I found a BER10 (34K)for that price I'd snatch up all that I could afford and send my friends to buy the rest.

Better Pawlin?
I really didnt intend to get into a pricing debate here, but as I said, I was just a bit surprised at his initial response. I am more than happy to let it go...
I havent seen this scam happen, but I can easily see it working, especially on newer architects who havent been beaten repeatedly over the head with "OMG, xxxArchitect sells them for XXX credits. Thats way to expensive." I think perhaps its the reason that so many of us that have been architects for a while are ready to defend our prices at the drop of a hat. I am told quite often that I have great prices, especially by the veterans of the game who have at least a vague understanding of what goes into our structures. But there are always the new people, and just plain jerks, that will question pricing no matter what.
A sincere thanks for the heads up. I hope this thread(minus the debate posts) hangs around for a while, so the newer Archis wont be taken in by the scam
I get this on a fairly regular basis. Most recently was a young french miss who claimed that she could get 20k credBER10 minerals. Now, I sell these things regularly at 75k and on occasion at 50k if I need to off load back stockquickly. I simply ask who the other seller is and where their vendor is located. If the customer is being legit, then I go buy up all those 20k BER10s and go offload them for 50k each or if I have the time, 75k. If not then I know the potential customer is a scammer and I /ignore customer.
This works both ways...yes, I have lost a few sales, but more often than not I can convince the customer to take me to said vendor, we buy the place out and then I escort them to Coronet to show them what a BER10 is really worth. In most cases recently, I have made some excellent contacts using this method. Customer/New Friend/tells me when they find a great deal and we run off to make huge profits together.
I guess my point is that sometimes these folks are telling you the truth. Someone, somewhereis undercutting you. Find out who they are and buy them out of business..sharing some of the profit with those who brought the undercutter to your attention will assure that you have their "eyes" in the future.

Darma, I've seen people advocate buying out people selling low before, but your approach is very refined. Nice work. As you say, you separate out the scammers from legit customer pretty quickly, and end up with the legit ones as your friends. Thanks.
What is really interesting is that the lovely young french lass, is now a MA like myself. So she also got free training and I got a stack of APout of the deal =)
There's a dimwit on Tempest named Col who messaged me the other day:
Col: Can you make me 10 small houses for 30-40k?
Cin: Absolutely not. Talk in the 100k range and we can deal.
Col: 50k even? They go for like 3.
Cin: I'm adding you to my ignore list again.
