I found it to be easy and i did not grind every day either. I built harvesters for me and one other freind and free small houses for the 15 people in my pa. The one other person supplied the resources for his harvesters and i supplied the rest for my self. I was only less than a week behind the first posted pa to reach master. i found out about factories to late or i would have done it faster only used a factory for the last 2 skills. The onlygrinding was actually getting thru artisan.I hope the urban planners isjust as easy.

If your not already a master you will be soon it dont take much just keep building. And save every thing you build it will sell no need to delete items or use practice while shooting for master architect.

i suppose its easy for those with alot of resources and or cash, but for me it sucks LOL. I have exactly 2k in credits and no ore to be able to craft. I use it up just as fast as I acquire it, so for me obtaining master is not easy at all.

Dayne, great post!

I am currently a novice architect, weaponsmith, and chef. Just by making my first factory, I found I was already have way to my choice of a first tier skill!

On the other hand, as a novice chef, I've spent hours crafting Wastril Bread at 70XP each combine to find I'm only at 7K XP!

It can be argued that the skills under each tree require the same amount of resources to reach the next tier, however, the number of combines required for mastering the architect tree is a mere fraction that of any other of the artisan tree.

I was also a long time EQ player and took much pride in my level 250 tailor. It took me almost 2 years of off and on tailoring to get my char to that level and I thought of it as quite an accomplishment.

Personally, I beleive it should take you a LONG time and effort to become a master at any profession. Isn't that what being a professional is all about?

I was a powergamer for the first month of retail and it was pretty easy to get to master. Though I focused on architect less than my tailoring, I was only behind I think 3 days or so before I hit Master Architect after I hit Master Tailor. Think its mainly due to the sheer amount of xp you get from the items you make. I think the order I went in was novice tailor, then novice architect, then did Master Artisan in the first few days of the game. I hit master tailor about 1 month in and then master arch a couple days after that.

Each branch of the Architect tree requires 121,000 + 99,000 + 77,000 + 55,000 = 352,000 experience. All four branches require, therefore, 4 * 352,000 = 1,408,000 experience. The resources per experience point ratio is 1:2; therefore you need to burn 704,000 resources to complete all four branches. Practice mode increases the experience by 5%, or 1.05, making the ratio 1:2.1; therefore, in practice mode, you need to burn 670,476 resources to complete all four branches. A structural module uses 450 resources. Therefore, building 1,490 structural modules in practice mode will give you enough experience for Master Architect. A structural module uses low-grade ore and metal in the proportions 4/5 and 1/5 respectively, meaning you need 670,476 * 4/5 = 536,381 low-grade ore and 670,476 * 1/5 = 134,095 metal. Increasing the amounts by 15% to compensate for critical fails and rounding up, that is 536,381 * 1.15 = 617,000 low-grade ore and 134,085 * 1.15 = 155,000 metal.

With 8 heavy harvesters conservatively pulling in 5,000 a day of each, that much low-grade ore could easily be stockpiled in two weeks, and that much metal in four days. If you have help in the form of rented lots or friends donating lots, then accumulating that many resources becomes even easier.

Conclusion: if you accumulate the resources beforehand, you can make Master Architect in a day or two.

I think it's incredibly easy. And I did it without any 'backing' to speak of(I 'rented out' three lots from a friend, but that's it). And, there was no 'grinding' involved, I used or sold everything I made. It just took a little time.

The number of combines an architect needs to make, in comparison to other crafters (that I know of), is far, far lower. Granted, it takes longer to gather the resources, but there's minimal effort involved in that.

One large house will gain you almost enough experience to learn a 'III box'. Go ask a weaponsmith, or a tailor, how that stacks up.

I'm only dabbling in Architect, taking Installations IV & Buildings II (for making harvesters) and it was so easy to hit it was ridiculous. I'm a very casual player, and have no backing whatsoever. I don't even have lots from friends I can use. I ran missions long enough to make 2 wind gens and 8 small mineral harvesters, and stuck them on a 95% metal. I ground out chemical survey deviced to novice architect, then started making crafting stations. I finished Installations I like 10 minutes after becoming a novice architect.

After hitting Installations II, I made a pair of solars, and the next day I made three medium extractors. The day after I made five more mediums, and got way into Installations III while skyrocketting my production rate. One more days grind making crafting stations (900 xp, 450 metal, 3 seconds to combine? Hi.) I just sell enough of my production each day to fund the next day (and once a week I sell everything to get ahead). I'm now running 2 solars and 8 medium minerals. I'm selling the ore I'm yanking up as fast as I can and buying/trading for other non-ore materials, so I can build my arsenal of heavies. It was so easy to hit Installations IV, I might just drop the skills when Pistoleer starts filling up (now THAT is a long way off--I'm too casual to rise in combat fast).

I stopped now, I'll get buildings II on accident while making my factory, 2 fusions, and 12 heavies (8 mineral, 1 chemical, 1 gas, 1 flora, 1 water).

In case you haven't figured it out, you get 1 XP point for every 2 units of materials you use in manufacturing an item. Since they require TOO MANY resources for houses and factories, of course arch is quick to make. Butit is not easy. Just increase the XP needed for each level and get it over with.

Once you make it, beware the factory bugs... For the first time since I made master, I have all the resources I could want, running 30 mediums and a few larges around the clock. I'm about to go broke because all I need to make now is factory items. It's not going to happen until they fix it.

And for all you EQ snobs out there, bite me. That was a piss poor game from day one, and the only way they could keep you around was by making everything so hard to reach that you HAD to power play to make it anywhere. What a bunch of hooey, hacking and slashing bunnies for a week just to get your foot in the door. And the graphics are HORRIBLE on EQ.. The fact that you spent that long playing it says something about your level of intellect. Go back and play it if it was so good. I for one certainly don't need your holier than though attitudes, nor your ignorance influencing this game.

Simple risk vs. reward guys. The resources to exp ratio is only 1:2, it's the amount of resources risked at one time that makes it *not* easy.

I've lost over 100,000 resources to critical fails, (2 heavies, several walls, a medium house, small house & several medharvesters). Name any other profession that can loseup to65,000 resources in one click, and then tell me it's too easy.

It's hard if you make that factory, but everyone tells you "Holy %^&$ you're a ripoff!". Ya, get the xp, but it comes in drivels when you manage to find buyers. Or you can just undercut everyone and make alot of xp. Is that what you're talking about?

I had a lot more fun getting to master than being a master. That is the great thing about architech, the road to master is a meaningful and fun one. Where as a weaponsmith is completely useless unless they are a master making the top weapons. Getting new skills and making new things is fun. I did use a factory before the nerf, and it went by almost too quickly.

Well keep in mind you CANT compare a charracter on this game to any other game like EQ or AC cause they carry fully differant systems.... 1 month to max out 1 profession would be fine no at that point this game is set up so you can train and untrain as you wish. Hence it is easy because you did nothin but well be an architect... if you just have fun build things as needed talk to customers get a good relationship going with local shops that is gettin good level... But maxing Architect anyone can master a class when there is an exp meter but try gettin good at the other skills too. This game was designed more for Roleplay than Hack/Slash/n/Grind. Maybe it is just me then i cant get the resources fast enough and well i like how i dont have to grind as a architect to see movement... as you build the bigger things you get exp comparable to the work you did and the size of what ya made... of course a house if gunna make alot of exp for someone... it aint like puting a bone helmet together over and over... it is 1 giant structure that gets alot of exp at once but well if your on your own you cant grind em.

If the devs had listened during beta when we asked for several different sizes of guild halls for different numbers of folks, the number of masters would be far less. The only way to get the holy grail of guild chat is to have a master. Every knew what it was and how to get there. If you only had to get to houses 1 to have a baby guild hall, how many guilds would have stopped there? I know mine would have.
