Thread: Merchant tents for player cities only?

I have placed two merchant tents on our fair city Talath on Rori (server Tempest) and have encouraged all members of our city to place a vendor with. It's a bit of a squeeze, but we can fit 4 blocky vendors (from business 3 in artisan) and 2 NPC vendors in each.

I tried to transfer the structure to another player who does not have Efficiency 4 and the transfer was refused (by the game). Looks like you MUST have Efficiency 4 to place and operate the merchant tents. Of course I can't see why I couldn't transfer the structure to someone else once they finally reach the required level.

On a side note, the tents come in 3 different colors. Can't remember the colors available (I'm at work) but I think they are blue, green and white.

I was sitting by my crafting station at the time, however I cannot say for certain that it is required. If you were able to craft the tent in the middle of nowhere I'd say that it is not required, but I have not had a chance to call in sick today and go test this.

Bare with me as I'm going from memory here... After you click to attempt the construction of the tent (and the same with streetlights, statues, gardens and other multicraft structures) you should, if successful, be displaying a screen similar to the final screen of item production where you're able to rename the item being crafted. The change is on the left hand side of the crafting window where you can select the style/color of the item you are trying to craft. If you don't select a specific color I'm not sure if there is a default color, or if a random color will be used.

Unless this was already addressed, the default option is not accurately named ie. when building a merchant tent it doesn't state what color it will be. If you click on the drop down box you'll get a listing of all the available styles/colors for the item in question.

Ok, this is all nice info. But I'm curious, what's the benefit of the Tent versus the house??

Well I had a large house with lots = 6 and the tent =1. I can't remember exacts but the maintenance is insanely low compared to a large house as well. If you are talking small house than the savings of having a tent are obviously proportionally less. You also have NO room for storing anything in a tent if you plan on putting vendors in it - it is a "single room/no door" structure where the room is about the size of the smallest room in a large generic. The thing I like most is the idea of a tent - it is visually representing that you are selling something - rather than having to run around and read signs from the necessary angles all day if you are a consumer out shopping, and then of course the lots and maintenance. A very cool idea if you want to operate multiple sales offices in different geographic locations.

The only downside I've seen so far is that, for me at least, the merchant tents do not show on the map overlay (ctrl-M). I'm assuming it was meant to show, and this is but a bug.

Also worth noting we have not actually put 6 vendors in either of our merchant tents yet. In one we have 2 NPC vendors, a blocky vendor (from artisan line) and a droid. I have not tested how many objects can sit in a merchant tent. A _guess_ is 75, the same as the Naboo small which only takes 1 lot. How you could (or why) fit that many things in on display is beyond me though.

Some people have had trouble initializing vendors inside the tents. Ittapok had tried numerous times and it would only initialize if she was in the dead center of the tent. When she tried placing her vendor in the other merchant tent I had sent up for the city it worked perfectly the first time. I believe this is different from the magically disappearing and reappearing vendor bug.

I love the tents...I share a house with someone so the house lots are on the....the tent only takes one lot so I spoke with a few mayors and I placed my Frontier Shop in their city. is pretty small, maybe 1 or 2 vendors...but its great for that type of thing.

I would not make it my main shop since I like having place to store stuff, but if you stock it up well and check it out every 7 days or so it makes a great remote are shop....on planets that don't have many vendors is great.

Don't forget that with this new patch items last in vendors fora total of 30 days. I love that! I was getting so tired of restocking my vendors every week.

Unless you put an item up for sale from the stock room - then it reverts to the 7 day deal. Or so I've read -nevertried it since I read it first.
