Thread: Architects who rename furniture...

Ahhh...how this reminds me of the early days of the game when I was a master architect (I still retain many skills). I remember putting my name on many pieces, in color, on the bazaar to promote my name, and this was common practice for most at that time. When I was established, I dropped my name tag and used creative names, such as 'Corellian Orchids', 'Luxurious Couch', etc. I was happy to make special orders with any name requested, or hand craft no-name items. I left the active selling of furniture and structures months ago, but I still get players asking for me and I can't help wonder if it is due to the named furniture that still floats around. I get a warm chuckle when I seesome of my old piecesin houses or they pop up on the bazaar.

And even though it disappears the first time you redeed something, all of my harvesters are NOT labeled "Deed for: Deep Crust yada yada". They are labeled "BER13 / 121K Hopper Heavy Chemical Harvester by Zalle". It's clear, it's descriptive, and customers like sorting the vendor and being able to see exactly what they are looking for. In the case of harvesters, not only are the names brain-dead, they are confusing - I see no point in perpetuating that confusion.

A comment:

You couldn't be more right. People want to see "BER 13: Heavy Mineral Miner 135k Storage". Since storage is the only relelvant difference between most, the 135k ones sell much better than the 109k ones.

Because we are egomaniacal sons (and daugters) of **edit**.

?

If you find custom names SO offensive, just place an order and kindly request we leave in the stock, boring-as-all-hell names.

I love the custom name feature. Our local architect created something for me not seen otherwise-

Droid Detection Device renamed "Auto-Flush Mechanism" (see where this is going?)

Small square metal chair(pardon my lack of knowledge of the exact name) renamed "Throne"

Minera Survey Device renamed "Auto-Wipe Mechanism"

The Auto-flush was backed against the wall, the throne was centerd in front of the flusher and backed in until the backrest disappeared and the auto-wipe was set down in the middle of the seat so just the rounded top of it showed.

Voila! A complete futuristic toilet. I liked it so much I commissioned him to make an entire public restroom in the PA hall in town.

if it didnt make it difficult to see what items were on my vendor, i would name everything "." cause its kind of dumb to have furnature names show up when you put your cursor on it.

Yes, but don't most of you buy things with Nike logos, or drive around in a car with some car manufacturers labels all over. Some master architects have worked long and hard to build up a reputation, and their customers may want to have items that are easily identifiable as coming from a specific master. Personally, I stopped making furniture when harvestor experimentation was added but I had two lines of thought on the matter. I would often do limited edition runs such as 'Battle Zone Limited Edition Metal Chair by [eld] Sensi'. However, when I made furniture for myself and certain customers, I would often leave the name blank. I mean, how often do you walk intoa house and see a sign that says 'couch' floating abovethe sofa?

I personally like custom labels...confused the heck out of me the first time I saw it and I was SOOO excited to find an Endorian Bookcase or Jedi meditation lamps...pretty cool I think

But I dont buy stuff with people's names as labels...

I think renaming furniture is rather creative and helps keep the homes of swg from being mono-tone. For example, I name candles "Bantha Ear Wax" or ill name a couch "Eopie Hide Couch" just to make a house look more original. Now... branding is pretty annoying ill add... probably the third reason i became an arch... Example, Master Series Bookcase by LORD_VADR makes me mad.... kinda like forced advertising. I personnaly dont like seeing somebodies name everytime i look at my furniture, but that's just me. Also, the only time i found that it is negative to sell "customized" furniture is when doing it in crates(due to the fact that people dont know what they are buying). IF you add a example of furniture in question tho in your shop or have some on the vendor it solves this problum.

We (ahem I) rename furniture because I personally can't stomach the uninspiring "stock" names that they come with. Your example Bookcase (Master Architect piece). I name things what I would like for my abode. Bookcase in point might read:

Marble Bookcase with Ancient
__Grimoires of Sith Ideology

AlphaMaldorian

I agree. I mostly rename my own furniture but not what I sell unless requested. I personally have a bookcase name "Complete collection of How things work.

It does add to the atmosphere.

Renaming furniture can be cool, but I've always thought that renaming it by adding your name is tacky. In practice, the only things I rename are the plants, I leave off the style one comment since we still only have one style.

Why?! Why do architects rename the furniture, for example:

Orignal name: Bookcase

New name: Custom Bookcase by Agertaria

If anything it makes you lose sales because people can see that... I think its the most annoying thing ever, so people who do it STOP! LOL

I don't care who made it, if I wanted to know I would examine the peice of Furniture for the object creator.

I see so many people doing it with furniture it makes shopping for orginal named furniture a task

I agree and I disagree. Renaming can be good, I'd rather have a plant renamed "Nabooian Paintbrush Flowers" Plant "style one" or whatever it is. I don't really like it when people feel the need to put their name or guild name on their products to sell to the masses. Esp if those products are going to be used as display in a house.

My label is simple and discriptive ie Bookcase (Ivory) bTM or Bookcase (Stylish) bTM

I put the discription for easier browsing since thereseveral types...

My tag bTM (by Trygg Mynes) is for me to keep track of my furniture. Since my prices are 3 cpu I have had people buy from me and resell on the Bazaars. At one point I nearly did away with it but I several customers say that the tag actually had other asking about my business because they were able to buy many items from me opposed to planet hopping to furnish their homes. I do agree I can't stand obnoxious tags like the one you used as an example. I do honor request of customers that prefer not to have my tag. Bottomline, I haven't had complaints only praises with my dealings.
